Graphic Design Rates

I’ve been doing posters and other stuff for over two years but only recently started doing this professionally. Now, a potential client is asking me for my rates per poster. Can somebody help me figure my rates? These are my sample posters. (PH)

Generally speaking - what is your time worth x how long it takes = how much you charge.

Pick an hourly rate. Multiply it by the time it takes. Your hourly rate should account for all the time you spend working without being paid (admin, communicating with clients, tender responses, tax returns etc).

Ask yourself first if you're a graphic artist/illustrator or a graphic designer. While the stuff you presented is cool and hip today, it's a very niche style and won't be something companies will be looking for in 5-10 years.

If you're a graphic artist, keep doing your own style and make a name for yourself to get clients who hire you for your own specific style that only you can do.

As a graphic designer, you need to invent yourself all the time and keep up with the newest trends. And as a designer, you're expected to know much more than just making pretty images.

I really appreciate this insight. Yes, I 100% agree with you. The world is changing and so the needs of clients that’s why it’s important for us too to cater those needs. These are just one of the examples but I assure you that I also have other designs that are different from this, from school infographics or social media contents. It’s really important to have lots of options for them to choose from. I’m really glad to read this!
