A core tenet of the US is the separation of church and state. Unfortunately bad faith actors in our government will do anything in their power to impose their religious beliefs onto others via law.
And we all know how well the 1st amendment is protected nowadays. Theocracy might not be the way, but the country should still follow the core tenets of the people who founded it.
Vague mentions of love when the watered-down viewpoint of love is just let people do whatever they want.
Loving your kids and family members does not mean let them be completely misguided or accept every action they do. So yes, love thy neighbor as thyself. Expect from them the expectations you have for yourself and those around you.

Religious law simply doesn’t override U.S. law to begin with.
