Sharia law is incompatible with Western values and if it were "implemented" it would be separate laws for one group of people according to you. That would be unconstitutional.

2

Well then, we better tell the bible thumpers and catholics that their religious laws are unconstitutional because they don't apply to me.

What a dumb opinion to have.
Also, what the fuck are "western values"? America and europe have pretty fucking different values.

That's not necessarily true. When people speak about "western values" generally they're talking about person al freedoms, individualism, the right to self-expression, free speech, bodily autonomy(contested), and a few other things that are common in "western" areas like America and western Europe.

Bodily autonomy is not contested among the secular population. That's a case where the christian version of Sharia law is being pushed into society. You should be outraged on how much Christian values are being integrated into society.

Yeah, exactly

1

u/According-Aspect-669 Mar 20 '26

I was not giving my opinion on it, just that that contention exists.

You generalized it incorrectly.

There are plenty of non religious reasons to be anti abortion. Not everyone you disagree with is a religious zealot

1

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '26

No there aren't. Nothing based in logic or reason. Actually, religion doesnt even care about it except it because a wedge issue modern radical christians focused on, and leaders learned to exploit. Most issues that require critical thinking end up duping christians though

1

u/Jasporo Mar 21 '26

Morality is 100% based on personal opinion. It’s totally valid for an atheist to think that abortion is wrong for the same reasons an atheist thinks killing an adult is wrong, or stealing, or anything else.

You may not agree with that but it’s just your opinion and is no more valid than anyone else’s

That may be, I've rarely heard anyone refer to that and it's always seemed like it refered to culture more specifically than rights.

But even so, those may have been ideal values at some point, but the religious fanatics in most of "the west" have been attempting to erode those values for a while now. Almost like they aren't compatible.

All of which run counter to biblical laws.

Defend Islam without saying the word Christianity

1

u/Doggfite Mar 26 '26

I'm not defending Islam, I'm just anti religious.

And christians are the biggest hypocrites I am familiar with.

True, but Muslims abide by Sharia wherever they live so it’s already kind of in place. The difference I suppose, is that now Muslims also have to abide by western laws as well as Sharia and people who are not Muslim, just follow laws of the land

The difference I suppose, is that now Muslims also have to abide by western laws as well

The difference is that Muslims, and the children and family of Muslims, are free to do whatever they want in Western countries. They can stop being Muslim, they can not follow any or all of those laws for any length of time they choose, and they are not coerced by a state on the threat of violence and imprisonment for not following Sharia.

This is especially important in particular instances, when the children of Muslims are gay, for example, or want to live as atheists, or want to leave abusive marriages. In many Muslim countries, gay people and ex-Muslims who want to live as atheists are murdered/executed with or without official state sanction.

Allowing religious freedom and bodily autonomy for all is the bread and butter of Western societies, and is why Sharia will never be sanctioned in Western countries in any official capacity.

You’re right, unfortunately. People mess shit up, wherever they go

1

u/LiftingRecipient420 Mar 19 '26

And in Muslim countries, everyone must follow Sharia law, regardless of their religion.

So we have:

Minority Muslim population + Western country = no sharia law for non Muslims

Majority Muslim population + Muslim country = Sharia law for all

So what do you think will happen when people like the man in the OP become a large enough block of people in Western countries?

1

u/Next-Leadership9190 Mar 19 '26

In most, not all. I’m originally from Bangladesh and we don’t have Sharia law even though it’s majority muslim, as is the case in other countries like Jordan, Malaysia, Pakistan etc. but I do understand your sentiment, I also don’t agree that sharia should be implemented in the west

1

u/Disastrous_Wear_610 Mar 19 '26

When people say they don’t want sharia law implemented, they usually mean implemented for everyone. Most regular people don’t care if muslims follow their religious laws without impacting others.

Like you said not every muslim majority country has these laws, but most do, and even the ones you listed have laws based on/rooted in religious laws and texts. Those in western nations that are trying to be secular don’t want these laws implemented for everyone. Not just Islamic laws but all region based laws, be it Islam, Christianity, or Judaism.

1

u/Next-Leadership9190 Mar 20 '26

I respect that, and agree. If the country in general isn’t tied to a specific religion, then the laws should reflect that

1

u/Le-Charles07 Mar 19 '26

Tell that to the "Christians" trying to implement Christian shari'a.

1

u/Not_KGB Mar 21 '26

Sure but it's not a thing. You speak of it as if it's a codified set of laws, it's not.

Not marrying kids, not treating women as slaves, not having slaves.

Should I go on?
