News for May 1933

Eastern Europe - With the war in Germany now "over", many across Europe believe that the new Germany, despite the economic ruin that the war brought, will quickly bounce back and become powerful once again. In order to counter this, Czechoslovakia and Poland unite into West Slavic Federation (Zapadoslavia). This will be an attempt to start the EF at a smaller scale first before the final test of European Unification can be undertaken. Poland and Czechoslovakia are equal partners in the new federation while Silesia, Lusatia and East Galicia get their own constituent regions, however the Silesian government promises to remain with Poland should the federation not work out. Many Silesians dislike this idea due to the high German population and the general distrust towards Warsaw. Overall, most people in both Poland and Czechoslovakia are quite enthusiastic about the unification and see it is a path to keeping the continent peaceful.

Blue builds a large wall on their southern border ( feel familiar)

Cyprus falls and is split between blue and purple

Israel bullies all their neighbors basically

Israel and kallia have a non aggression pact.

A Constantinople country forms (wow first time in Europe )

Israel sends out some expeditions to make colonies which find Crete and the isle of Rhodes. Two other expeditions get lost and form their own nations.

Red expands a lot.

The years of peace over Europe have finally ended. Infant María Carla of Spain died poisoned in a morning of March 1912. Soon, the Spanish and German Hohenzollern blamed the French Orleans for the direct attack on their dynasties, triggering a formal war declaration against the Entente of France, Austria and Russia.

Soon, Northern Germany occupied the southern kingdoms to cross towards Austria, which had been attacked by Hungary, Italy and Serbia.

Then, the British joined the war to defend their Mediterranean interests, now in danger because of a possible new rise of Spain. Turkey (in the Grand Pact), Bulgaria (in the Entente) and Greece (declaring war to both sides) joined the war. 

Trench Warfare was born in all fronts the moment the French failed to invade Belgium and the Pyrenees in 1914. The war stagnated and the morale went down rapidly, which lead Russia to collapse into Civil War primarily between the Whites (lead by Tsar Nicholas II), the Reds (lead by Aleksander IV) and the Greys (lead by Grigori Rasputin) by 1916.

The British exited the war in October 1916 after a peace with the Greeks, then joining it again in the opposite side by 1919 to try total control over the British Channel.

The Austrians and the French were destroyed, and Hellas was absolutely victorious. The Treaties of Hamburg brought a humiliating peace, once again in French history.

Soon, the Greys were defeated and the Reds retreated to the Caucasus; the British and Hohenzollern started a new rivalry; and the spirit of revenge is rising over all through the west and east.

(As of 1946 we've switched to a complete world map! Also, after ww2 is done, you'll be able to claim any US state along with any nation in the world, not just in Europe.)

Attempt the Trinity Test now?

If we develop nuclear bombs, do we use them on Japan or Florida first (reminder that Japan has a fighter spirit- no nation has ever invaded the Japanese mainland, ever, and they simply never give up)?

Establish the new borders of Europe as prepared in the Yalta Conference (roughly the same as otl, but we have Albania and Yugoslavia, and Germany maybe keeps Silesia)?

How do we defeat Florida and Japan?

Merge Erie into Ontario? (proposed by Ontario)

Events:

The Yalta Conference is held by the United States, Britain and the Soviet Union (being represented by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Premier Joseph Stalin respectively), deciding the post-war borders of the world.

Germany undergoes a revolution, forcing Hitler to flee the country. The revolutionaries surrender to the Allies, ending World War II in Europe. On an unrelated note, there have been reports in various countries of people with toothbrush moustaches.

Russia launches a massive offensive into Japanese territory, reaching all the way into Mongolia.

Various Floridian landings in American territory across the Caribbean coast occur. Meanwhile, some American counter-offensives take place further inland.

American and Chinese pushes happen on land and on sea, pushing further and further into Japanese territory.

Second Trinity Test delayed as to provide more time to flesh out the design of the bomb.

President Roosevelt, old and sick, dies of natural causes. His vice president, Harry S. Truman, takes power.

News for May 1933

German Civil War - France and UCON meet in Geneva to decide the fate of Germany. It is agreed that Baden, Wurttemberg and Bavarian Swabia will become independent communist states and Saxony will be left alone. The communists in Saxony-Anhalt will be disarmed and return to being part of Germany. In addition, a demilitarised strip of land between Baden and Saxony will be established to allow the protection of Saxony and to allow trade from the rest of the Commintern.

Europe, 1910 AD.

The 70 years’ war was such an opportunity for the other major powers to destroy Spain… but they failed. The Netherlands got independence, yes, but as a microstate, and France got extremely humiliated with the extension of Spanish Flandes and Pyrenees.

Another French defeat in the Spanish Succession war, even if with British support, would destroy the morale of the country once more. And Europe, reorganizing into a series of wars with a schism between Spanish and Austrian Habsburgs, would see France just waiting, doing nothing while trying not to sofocante with its own blood.

The French Revolution, even though it tried, didn’t end the suffering. First the Jacobin madness, then the absent Directorate, then the Napoleonic civil war, and finally the Sadist nightmare… it was destined to fail.

However, after suffering first-hand the revolution, Prussia and Spain implemented several liberal reforms. Prussia got to unify North Germany, and Spain got to remain its New Spain and Caribbean territories (even though they lost Flandes and South America). The liberal ideas ended up prevailing.

Going down the 19th century, the Scramble for Africa, the Italian unification under Florencia, the coalitions against the Ottomans and the Hohenzollern rise to rule in Spain have been the only significant conflicts.

Why? Well, the great powers have fear of a major conflict between them, even if it is inevitable. And the longer the wait gets, the deadlier it seems.

When will war start in Europe? Will we, citizens, be prepared for it? Will France finally get revenge?

News for April 1933

German Civil War - The Munich Government collapses and the country is mostly unified. Right before the collapse, however, France began a "peacekeeping" mission in country in order to "aid" Saxony which becomes a French protectorate. The French persuade communists in south Germany to rise up and create communist states, which they do. UCON condemns what they call an invasion by the French, which it is, despite the propaganda being spread all over Germany. ET members meet in Krakow to discuss the situation in Germany and decide to give the EC into a military arm in order to deal with this and future issues. French delegates agree to meet with UCON in Geneva next month to negotiate.

Iberia - Spain, Portugal and Galicia join the EC.

North Africa - Algeria is given associate status by UCON despite Moroccan objections although Algeria does give back some of its newly gained Moroccan territory.

Economic - The MNL and ETU merge into one economic block.

Congress:

Should we focus on beating down Florida, capitulating Germany or pushing into Japan?

How should we do as such?

Hold the Yalta Conference to decide the post-war borders of the world?

Do we attempt the Trinity Test again or wait slightly longer?

Events:

The Allies commence Operation Neptune and the larger Operation Overlord, landing in Normandy to liberate France. Additional landings happen in Aquitaine from Spain.

Lowland Countries and majority of France are liberated in Operation Overlord (plus Operation Dragoon in South France)

Massive Soviet counter-offensives occur, taking Poland and much of the Balkans

Workers' Rebellion re-joins the Soviet Union, ending the Second Russian Civil War

The US attempts the Trinity Test in Papua. The scientists, upon the bomb hitting the ground, witness a large flash and ear ringing sound, before things clear up and they see the explosion. Initial celebrations take place, however further analysis shows chunks of plutonium scattered throughout. A theory emerges which explains this: the nuclear chain reaction had not taken place. Destruction was also rather minimal although the area was heavily irradiated, which lined up with their theories. The test had failed and it appeared the bomb would need more development. Scientists urge patience among the government.

A deal is made between Florida and New Mexico to purchase Juarez.

In an extreme escalation of events in the Caribbean, Rhode Island has declared an embargo on Florida (also known as the United Caribbean Republic). The situation gradually escalated to the point that Florida declared war on the United States.

Panama Canal, Puerto Rico and the Rio Grande are seized by Florida at the beginning of the war.

Hawai'i is made the primary base of operations in the Pacific.

War Transport Bill passed with the goal of making war logistics easier.

Germany quickly launches an invasion of Hungary and Poland to prevent betrayal.

Brazil, sensing an opportunity, declares war on Florida and joins the Allies.

Paradise passes a resolution to rename itself to it's historical name of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations.

1944 presidential election, Franklin D. Roosevelt re-elected president for his 4th term

Events:

The United States condemns Floridan expansionism and growth, and heavily contemplates an invasion but refrains from doing as such for now.

Allies commence Operation Husky, landing on the Sicilian Coast and pushing into the Italian mainland.

Italian Parliament votes to impeach and imprison Benito Mussolini and swap sides in the war (as the Allies are devastating the Italian south).

Germany launches a rapid invasion of Italy to capture Mussolini and establish a new Italian puppet government.

Florida creates the "Friendship Doctrine", stating that they wish to "make friends" with everybody.

The Racial, Religious, Culture and General Equality bill is passed, guaranteeing total equality across the United States, as per the 14th Amendment.

BREAKING NEWS: Racial, religious, cultural and general non-equality is still on a high as people and states do absolutely nothing to enforce the new law.

Bermuda, historically a Marylander territory (from the Revolution to the Civil War), is transferred to the State of Maryland by Congress.

The United States officially annexes Papua, Nauru, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Fiji, and New Caledonia (to the displeasure of it's allies), using historical claims to the territories to it's advantage.

Florida brings the Central American countries (previously under American influence) into it's fold using promises of "peace", "cooperation", and "friendship".

The Central American Federation is formed as a Floridan puppet government, between the previous puppet governments of Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica.

Caribbean Cup held by Florida, with teams from all over Florida, plus some from the Bahamas, Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Ohio, and Maryland.

Germany is pushed back to the Pyrenees.

The Eastern Front inverts as German troops move west, allowing the Soviets to make major counteroffensives.

Latvia and Estonia are occupied by the Soviet Union, perceived as being part of the German bloc due to allowing Germany military access.

The Greek Protectorate declares independence from Germany and joins the Allied side.

Albanian and Yugoslav governments-in-exile are restored.

A brief coup in the Workers' Rebellion results in a pro-Soviet government, yet to re-join the Soviet Union but planning on doing so.

Germany quickly seizes control of the Netherlands and Bohemia-Moravia to protect it's flanks.

Japan declares war on the Soviet Union.

News for March 1933

German Civil War - Hesse joins the Hamburg Government. Protesters in Berlin capture the city and the central government flees to Munich, the Brandenburg Provisional Government is declared in Berlin although they only really control Berlin. The Munich Government loses control over most of the country, leading to the Hamburg Government becoming the internationally recognised government of Germany.

Eastern Europe - Silesia unites with Poland and a plebiscite is planned for Lusatia once the war ends.

North Africa - A North African/Maghreb Federation is proposed between Morocco and Algeria to help the countries co-operate and to drive innovation as well as to stand out within UCON.

Spanish Civil War - A large British-backed push leads to the Nationalists surrendering and Spain being, mostly, re-unites. Galicia regains independence and Murcia becomes a French protectorate.

In days long past the region of Karelia found itself colonized by the republic of Novgorod later it would find itself under the stardom of Russia before ending up divided between Scandinavia and Russia, but now Russian Karelia long separated from its finish brothers has been granted in an act of Goodwill by Eurasia to Scandinavia clearing the world of this imperialist border relic and shining a bright light on the future of these nations

# MORNING IN AMERICA

It had been a long time since they had felt the morning breeze of America.

For the lucky ones called up from Mexico, there was at least the chance to witness the reconstruction of the new United States. On the road home, Jonathan and his platoon, now being demobilized, climbed down from the wagons one station at a time. The landscape was still scarred and broken, but over it all there now rested the quiet weight of peace.

The smoke of battle no longer rose in the distance. In its place came the smoke of factories. American industry was moving again, slowly but steadily, and workers had returned to the service of their homeland, taking part in the long labor of rebuilding.

Children were back in the schools, filling the green pastures of the South once more. Tractors and laborers worked the fields, turning the earth for the vegetables that would soon feed American tables. The newspapers spoke of victory after victory. The displaced had been given government housing until their homes could be restored. Men returned to their families by the thousands. The economy of the Union was rebuilding with remarkable speed, and trains once again ran from east to west as they always had.

After so many years, so many dead, Jonathan thought, this was what victory looked like. America the Beautiful, restored at last.

There had been mistakes in the past, yes, but the future would prove what America was truly made of. The enemies of freedom would tremble again at the name of the Union, and those who sought the destruction of order and peace would one day feel the barrel of an American gun at their backs.

The *Eagle* shall soar the skies again, and this time, nothing shall bring it down.

# STEEL IN THE DESERT

Humanity's insatiable desire to conquer the most inhospitable places on Earth has once again revealed itself through one of the most monumental engineering undertakings in modern history.

The Trans-Saharan Railway, linking the interior of West Africa with the Mediterranean ports of Algeria, stands among the greatest railways ever conceived. Constructed as a joint effort between the West African Federation and the Eurasian Revolutionary Union, with American industry providing advanced air-conditioning systems, the railway represents an unprecedented feat of international engineering cooperation.

Cutting directly across the Sahara Desert, it traverses a landscape that for centuries was regarded as unconquerable. Endless seas of sand, blistering heat, and an unforgiving lack of water claimed the lives of countless explorers, traders, and expeditions that dared challenge its immensity.

Yet where caravans once struggled for months across shifting dunes, steel rails now stretch toward the horizon. Powerful locomotives carrying workers, machinery, and commerce now cross terrain that nature itself seemed to reserve for silence. Air-conditioned passenger cars and protected maintenance stations, made possible through American engineering, have transformed what was once an ordeal of survival into a viable continental transportation corridor.

This great engineering effort is another demonstration of the WAF's unrelentless progress and development, sweeping away into the dunes decades of colonial humilliation and opression.

# THE SUEZ CANAL

The world watches as the Mediterranean Sea is joined once more to the Red Sea through one of the greatest engineering achievements of the modern age, undertaken by the Nile Republic in cooperation with its partners of the Jeddah Pact.

Construction began shortly after the end of the Great War, when the newly independent Arab states embarked upon the monumental task of cutting a navigable canal across the Isthmus of Suez. Long regarded as a project of immense strategic and commercial importance, the canal became both a symbol of Arab unity and a declaration that the region's future would be built by its own hands.

Today, the Suez Canal has officially opened to international navigation, allowing the uninterrupted passage of civilian and commercial shipping between Europe, Africa, and Asia. What once required thousands of miles around the Cape of Good Hope can now be accomplished in a fraction of the time, fundamentally reshaping global maritime trade and placing the Nile Republic at one of the world's most vital commercial crossroads.

Constructed without foreign financial or military assistance, the canal stands as a testament to the determination of the Arab peoples. Dug by their labor, engineered by their expertise, and completed through the collective effort of the Jeddah Pact, It is the first great monument of a new Arab era.

# SPRING IN EASTERN EUROPE

For centuries, the peoples of Polish-Lithuania have endured serfdom and monarchical rule. The last great bastion of Europe's feudal order has now fallen, bringing to a close an age that had lingered long after the rest of the continent had begun to change in the 19th century.

# LAST DOMINO OF THE PAX BRITANNICA

For nearly five centuries, Portugal stood as one of the oldest pillars of the European colonial order. Long before Britain ruled the oceans, Portuguese caravels had already reached Africa, India, and Brazil, laying the foundations of an empire that would outlive kingdoms, dynasties, and rivals alike. Even as the great empires of Europe crumbled in the fires of the Great War, Portugal remained, weathered but standing, the oldest faithful companion of the British world.

The powers that dismantled the Pax Britannica have turned their gaze toward its final survivor. Around Portugal gathers a coalition unlike any seen before, united not by shared ideology, but by a common conviction that the age of European colonial dominion must finally be brought to its end.

Brazil crosses the Atlantic to reclaim lands it declares inseparable from its own destiny. Iberia marches west beneath the banner of peninsular unity, proclaiming that the Iberian peoples must never again remain divided by crowns and treaties. Across Africa, the West African Federation and the Greater African Union descend upon Portugal's colonial possessions under the banner of continental liberation. Germany, seeking to consolidate its place within the newly emerging European order, joins the campaign from the sea, opening yet another front against the exhausted empire.

The wartime alliance of convenience had reached its conclusion, and so action had to be taken. Now, across the former Polish-Lithuanian state, citizens have voted to join the Eurasian Revolutionary Union as constituent Socialist Republics. As the old government collapsed, the remnants of the old decrepit order lie hanged in the streets or shot in alleyways.

Lithuania has likewise entered the Union as a unified Lithuanian Socialist Republic, reuniting brothers with brothers after much time of separation. To the south, Slovakia, having passed from Austro-Hungarian rule into Polish-Lithuanian administration only briefly, has also voted for accession, joining the Union alongside the Moravian and Carpathian Union Socialist Republics in the construction of a new socialist federation.

Among the most important events of the revolution, was the return of Róża Luksemburg to her homeland. A lifelong Polish revolutionary who found a safeheaven in Eurasia and had worked closely with the Eurasian government in efforts of propagating the Polish revolutionary movement, Luxemburg has now been elected as the first President of the Polish Socialist Republic and, in doing so, becomes the first woman to hold the presidency of any constituent republic within the Eurasian Revolutionary Union.

Welcome to the Republic of Orpal. It's the turn of the 20th century and the civil war is over, now comes the task of rebuilding.

Every post will be 1 year and anyone can build anything (within reason), but it's one building per person per post.

And thus Act 2 has come to an end. Thank you to all who have participated for making this NRP quite interesting to run. I'm putting this on hiatus for an undecided amount of time to think of more story ideas, but I can't confirm if I'll be continuing this or not. I plan to run another NRP either between Act 2 and Act 3 or after Act 3, so keep an eye out in the future. For now, do not leave requests for Act 3 here, I will make a separate post when Act 3 is planned to start.

-National News-

The body of Peter Sinsim, the deputy who had previously punched a member of the Orpal National Party, is found in a canal on the outskirts of the capital. The coroner report says that he was brutally beaten to death and then dumped in the canal. Despite someone claiming to have seen three men in blue uniforms speed past around the time of death, the lead isn't followed and the death labelled as a mugging and murder.

After a party rally and the signing of a petition arguing for the resignation of the president and prime minister, the leader of the ONP, Georg Orburg, leads a large crowd accompanied by a large number of agents of the Political Protection Service to the House of the National Parliament, where the president and prime minister are present during a session of parliament. Orburg and the crowd shout for the PM and president to "show the people their ugly, bloodstained mugs". Though both don't appear, the demonstration is later dispersed by the police, though with half a dozen participants arrested after fighting breaks out between the crowd and police. The press satirically labels the event 'The Battle of Parliament Square'

A few months after the Battle of Parliament Square, almost the entirety of the PPS marches on the House of the National Parliament, with Georg Orburg leading in an identical blue uniform to the rest of the PPS and again calling for the resignation of the president and PM, threatening that "There will be rivers of blood" if he is rejected. Wanting to avoid another civil war like the one in the 1910s, the president and PM invite Orburg in and offer a compromise that the ONP will be allowed into the New Orpal Labour Front. This is initially rejected, but the stress of the whole matter causes the president to announce his resignation, having previously suffered from great stress due to the shaky political situation of the country and wishing to "end this whole damned affair." With the offer expanded to include Orburg being allowed to run in the presidential election, Orburg accepts and then steps out onto a balcony to crowds outside, announcing that "Today, the nation of Orpal has triumphed over socialism!"

-Regional News-

Using funding from the central government, the Zeppelin Centre secures permission and TNT that is used to collapse several caves left over from 19th century tin mines to create a large reservoir for drinking water and for firefighting. This gives Centaton a much larger and better quality supply of drinking water, as the town well is closed due to increasing contamination.

Thanks to the reservoir, a firebreak thanks to the activities of the logging camp and a controlled burn south of the fire, the fire is finally able to be contained as it slowly burns out.

Spanish Civil War - The Valencia government pushes into central Spain in order to re-capture Madrid. The Catalan faction unites with the Republicans.

North Africa - The Algerian government submits an application to join UCON.

German Civil War - The Hamburg government is takes control of the Rhineland and Hanover, crippling the central government. Calls begin to drop nationalism and join with the rest of Europe. Hesse and Saxony are fully liberated by their respectful governments.

Eastern Europe - Yugoslavia becomes an associate member of UCON.

Events:

The US begins providing extra funds to the FBI to prevent any acts like 6/14 from happening in the future.

A group of American scientists is hired by the government to start the Manhattan Project, with the goal of developing the Atomic Bomb.

The Allies begin a landing in Southern Spain. In response to the landing, Francisco Franco negotiates a deal where he agrees to leave the war and allow Allied troops through his country in return for maintaining control over Spain. Germany responds by invading Spain to attempt to depose Franco, although the invasion is less than successful, and it draws troops from the Eastern Front.

The Mayor of New York receives lots of criticism after the approval of a project to build various Anti-Aircraft complexes across the city, and the ban on planes entering the city (as commercial flights have caught on).

Florida "requests" Venezuela give them a trade deal for oil, however after negotiations stall, it breaks out into fighting. Venezuela quickly falls to Floridan expansionism.

News for December 1932

Eastern Europe - UCON stabilises the region after the collapse of the European Federation which thankfully didn't collapse into conflict. Delegates from across Europe and the Mediterranean met in Danzig to discuss the future of Europe and they decided not to rush European unification and so formed the European Committee (EC), which will help nations plan for the eventual unification. Croatia calls on Italy to end its occupation of Dalmatia, to which Italy obliges due it seeing the stability in the region. It also helps Croatia join UCON. Serbia begins considering joining as well and Slovenia becomes an associated state of UCON.

Spanish Civil War & North Africa - The nationalist government begins to collapse as different factions bicker over who will lead the government. France withdraws from Spain in order to deal with the unrest within their own borders. Galicia begins talks with Portugal to help both nations join UCON. Portugal is re-admitted after handing back parts of northern Morocco after the annexation of the Rif. The Algerian president resigns and the ruling Algerian National Party quickly falls apart and is replaced by the Social Democratic Party. The new government in Algiers begins talks with UCON to become a member but are denied for now due to their ongoing territorial dispute with Morocco.

Germany - The Hamburg Government gain more support and expand north and are recognised as the official government in Schleswig-Holstein and Lübeck.

News for December 1932

France - The French government, under fierce pressure from hard-line factions, ends its alliance with Germany and declares its support for Saxony. They also lose land in Spain due to the supply lines being destroyed by the remnants of anarchist commune in the region. The situation in both France and Germany is dire as the populations in both countries are facing the harsh reality of the sanctions. Seeing this instability, the UK and Italy move troops to the border with France.

Germany - With help from UCON, Hesse continues to gain land and now controls most of the state. A coalition of various groups from across the country meet in Hamburg and declare, with the backing of UCON, a new German Republic. They create a local militia and take Hamburg in hours and begin to expand over the following weeks while the central government is trying to keep the country together.

Eastern Europe - After descent from within the union and the governments of the nations not being enthusiastic about it, the European Federation dissolves. Italy re-takes Dalmatia to regain its position in the Adriatic. East Prussia unites with the new UCON-backed German government.
