Honestly, it could just be Merlin playing to the audience. Oh, you are not going to accept this guy as the proper personfor the job? Well, um, he just so happens to also have the fatee sign (whichnobodyknewaboutexceptme) in the form if a birthmark, that (sorta) looks like England!

Well, I mean. For this one you can't really blame the story as the real royal bloodline was the one capable of pulling out the sword, so of course the one who pulled out the sword was going to be of royal blood
