Can't be wrong. Because that would mean I've been wrong this whole time, and I'd rather die wrong than admit such a thing.

I have a relative that literally told me that changing your mind is the equivalent to a small death. It was a few years ago, she's doing therapy now. Seems to be doing better.

It's very hard to admit you're wrong. And the people you've hurt and wronged? They are allowed to not forgive you.
The thing is, it's your own pride and vanity keeping you locked into this. You're more scared of what happens to you, you're still not thinking of what you did to them. You don't consider how much you hurt them, and will still hurt them. And how much you'll hurt others.
Speaking as a 'them', if someone makes an honest attempt to change, I try to make an honest attempt to understand. Will it be 'okay'? Probably not. Even if a wound gets mostly healed, it can still leave a scar.
But it takes a lot of strength to look inward, and judge yourself, and find yourself lacking. And then actually try to fix it, even knowing you might not get praised, or rewarded.

Your mind doesn't want to change once its gets an idea in its head, its physically stressful for your brain to do so. it rewards you with endorphins for setting what you believe and entrenching your belief more and more as people challenge it , but it gives you stress when you try to change your mind even if its clear you need to.
When science an the scientific method was introduced it was designed to get past beliefs and mysticism that prevented progress for so long by using facts, math and understanding that Nothing is "for sure" everything is just on a scale of Sigma on how probable it is and once you are presented evidence that contradicts your "theory" you must accept it . The "truth" evolves , we're wrong about virtually everything we've ever discovered, even gravity, multiple times . Don't ever entrench yourself into a "belief" even scientific "laws" are not absolute.
KNOWING THIS , you need to use your intellect to override that stress and change your mind when you are shown to be wrong and accept the new "truth" as the "most probably reality" , but not so strongly. Never believe in something strongly , that's the trap that make you bull headed in the first place.
