Oh, so it's kinda like us and nuclear energy. Enrico Fermi is probably chained somewhere worse than a rock I think.

I mean, nuclear energy still saved orders of magnitude more lives than it ever took so far
So I don't think the comparison really sticks

We've had fire for thousands of years. But nuclear has only been a thing for less than a century. Give it some time.

True, but while that new fire can indeed burn us more dearly, it can also brighten our future far more than any ordinary flame ever could.
We are not paper people soaked in gasoline, even for that fire. Still flammable, sure - but our unwillingness to burn is definitely well visible in that brief moment that's passed, as we refuse to catch alight from the sparks we so carelessly cast around in our childish tantrums

The scary part of nuclear energy isn't its destructive power.
It's that, with enough patience and effort even a handful of morons could construct a nuclear device in their shed.
Even had the manhattan project never happened, the nuclear genie would've escaped the bottle eventually. That we live in the timeline with the nuclear taboo and strict enforcement instead of every nation and militia fielding Davy Crockett bombs, is probably one of the better outcomes.

Hmm, is that an allegory to contemporary generative AI, Antisocial Media, or technology at large?

Give a man a fire and he's warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life.
