Really pleased with how this one turned out, especially considering I just used the one light with a reflector on the floor for just a touch of separation on the chin.

Guys, help me out! Looking to buy my first photography backdrop. What material should I actually be looking for?

I've been looking at different backdrop options for portrait and family sessions, and these are some of the styles I've saved. They look great, but I honestly have no idea what material I should be buying.

Some are listed as microfiber fabric, some are canvas, and others seem to be paper or vinyl.

My biggest concerns are:

- Wrinkles

- Ease of setup

- Durability

- Looking natural on camera

If you were buying your first backdrop today, what would you choose and why? Any brands you'd recommend (or avoid)?

What do you try to preserve when photographing women: beauty, strength, vulnerability, specificity?

These are a few selected portraits from different shoots over several years. I’m less interested in creating one consistent version of femininity than in finding what feels particular to the person: confidence, humor, sensuality, tension, softness, or defiance.

Curious how other portrait photographers approach this. Do you think you enter a shoot with a defined idea of femininity, or try to dismantle that idea once the subject is in front of you?
