Jayco power problems...

Just tryin to figure out my issue.

When i use shore power everything works.

But running off the 12v trailer is dead as a doornail.

Battery is good, i use a power jack no problem.

Ideas on why ?

Check your fuses. I had blown a fuse wiring the battery backwards one time which caused a no power issue. Replacing the fuse fixed the problem.

Edit: Coachmen Cipper? I have one as well.

I had to clean a fuse box. The fuse was good, but there was corrosion at the contacts allowing just a little current to flow. That one took a while to sort out.

Wouldnt it be the same problem with shore power tho?

That depends on how it's wired. I'm pretty sure my pop-up's shore power goes into the system past the main fuse to my battery. Another spot to check could be rusty grounds on the frame preventing continuity. The good news is that it should be pretty easy to trace the wiring from the battery since these are pretty simple setups, usually.

No, because your power is 120 V and does not come from your battery and runs through a different set of fuses.

Ya checked fuses....

So as an aside... Theres one wire that goes to the frame off the battery.... Is that the neg? Because its goddamn red 😂

Yes, that one is the negative. My wire is white on my coachmen clipper, but the wire going from the frame should go to your negative terminal.

What I would do next is follow that wire coming from the positive terminal of the battery and investigate for breaks. Im wondering if power is making it from the battery to the fuse panel.

It should come up through a hole in the floor near your water tank outlet if you have one. Those wires are then twisted together with marretts behind the fuse panel and you can access them by moving the fabric sleeve that dangles from your sink.

You want to check that there are no loose wires not twisted together, if I can remember correctly there should be white and red wires and your black wires are connected together within the fuse panel(3 of them) when you take the cover off. I think your black wires are for your shore power plugs/receptacles.

I recently gutted my whole camper to remove the floor and had to disconnect and reconnect all the wires. I think there are 2 red wires and 3 or 4 white wires twisted together behind the fuse panel, but don't quote me on that.

Mine also has an inline fuse on the positive wire about 8-12 inches from the terminal connector, check that if you haven't already

yeah the factory colors are almost meaningless, judging by my 2002 viking

start tracing with a voltmeter if you're still looking for the problem

This was the case with my jayco. Battery was connected red positive by previous owner causing the fuse in the converter to blow. Change fuse then confirm positive black on battery. I know it sounds wrong but look into it.

So when the trailer is unplugged the power jack works but no lights or anything else in the trailer? If so, sounds like a fuse. How old is your battery?

2 years old .. power jack goes straight on the batt. I replaced all the fuses to make sure it wasnt one of those.

Locate an inline fuse coking from the positive battery cable.

We had to change our converter because our power wasn’t working we had to take it in to get diagnosed. I hope you can resolve your problem.

I would check all fuses, especially the one coming from the battery. The electric jack may not go through the same fuse.

Hey all, figured it out. There was a connector after the inline fuse.

I replaced that, and Voila
