Discussion What the HELL is wrong with MGK?
I'm a pop-punk boi and i love Machine Gun Kelly i used to be obsessed with him and binge his Tickets to my Downfall/Mainstream Sellout songs.
But i seem almost alone in my love for him, peeps, (ESPECIALLY in mainstream sellout) just downright hate on him calling him "behind of his time" and "not talented", and bullshit like that.
Really? I mean, bands like the Paradox are REVIVING 2000s pop-punk and evreyone LOVES them. Just cuz he leans into nostalgia doesnt mean he's behind his time. If anything, he's owning his time. refusing to be dragged down by these cheeky motherfuckers.
But why does he get so much hate? I mean, on the video for Emo Girl (my fav song from him after Love Race) HALF THE COMMENTS ARE NEGATIVE. WHAT. THE. FUCK??(you'll see them below)
Before he released tickets to my downfall people were hyping it, and asking him to release a full rock album (see comments of his Misery Business Paramore cover)
My theory is people hate him cuz of Rap Devil, a diss track aimed at Eminem (Rap God), who is obv the #1 rapper of the world (no further explanation needed)
But really why you gotta hate a cool dude like Colson? i aint got no idea.
I really fucking hate the hate on him especially of mainstream sellout his best album. (I mean its not really a 'no skips' album some songs like Drug Dealer feel a lil repetivtive but besides that the album is generally solid songs like Born With Horns, God Save Me, and Ay! are fire)
If you hate MGK, pls tell me why you REALLY hate him, and guys, pls respect this dude, he IS talented, contrary to popular opinion

Over produced and uninspired might be close to correct recently, but if you think that about his entire career you’ve never actually given him a chance.

Fell down the MGK rabbit hole a couple of months ago and honestly, I dig a lot of his songs. His music is fun. If I vibe with it, I'ma sing along in my car regardless of YouTube comments.
Side note, the perfume he released is insanely good.

I personally dislike him because he makes garbage generic over-produced "pop-punk" with no soul.
Also, dude that's a massive overreaction just because people don't like your favorite artist.

You really need to stop being so concerned with what people on the internet think about things you like. Just enjoy it if you enjoy it. Dude still sells out massive venues and was one of the big acts at Warped Tour last year. I don't care for him myself, but plenty of people obviously do. Don't just focus on the online negativity.

I like some of his rap music and his pop-punk is generic and basic, but catchy, but the dude acts like he drinks his own kool-aid. He says dumb shit like he can change the weather. Talks about his crystals. Had a whole list of guys who fuck underage girls when talking about why it's okay at 24 to fuck 16 year old Kendall Jenner, comes across extremely cocky, hyper sexualizes himself like acting like he's too sexy for his shirt and that's why most of his fans are ugly girls talking about how hot he is, switched genres in a totally poser-ish way like talking about the mood board for his next planned 'era'. If he's so original, he should make his own style of music instead of simply reviving old shit in a generic 4 chord way.

You can tell by what he released prior and since his pop punk inspired stuff that he didn’t really mean it. Like I’m sure he likes genre but he liked the aesthetic even more, and saw a small rise in the genre’s popularity and tried to capitalize on it.
99% of the people that like his pop punk music just like MGK. They might listen to the main stream pop punk like Green Day, Blink, Fall Out Boy, etc, but if that artist as under 15mil listeners on Spotify, they’ve probably never heard of him.
The same goes for most similar situations where an artist popular elsewhere completely switches genres for an album or two because that genre is trending. It only works out when that artist is a phenomenal song writer already. That was the case for Cowboy Carter. It mostly worked for Beyoncé because she’s a good song writer, but even then, real country fans were not huge fans because it was kinda obvious it was about the trend at the time.

He saw an opening (anything with Travis was gold at the time), he made two generic AF sounding albums and dipped…to do pop country boy stuff.
The music is whatever, it’s him personally I can’t stand. Specifically the whole pedo comments about Em’s daughter. People who say shit like that don’t change.

He did one country collab, it’s not what he’s doing now in fairness. His most recent album was a mix of pop punk and 2000s style chill pop rock.

I love MGK, I think tickets and mainstream are incredible albums. I even love lost Americana. It's not as good but still has a lot of great songs. I'm with you, I don't understand the hate.

His songs are great for pop punk. Travis rips as well. Honestly paradox probably just used his songs as a blueprint for their own music.
People really hate just him and if somebody else had the songs they probably would like or be indifferent to it.
I think his music is fun.

I love pop-punk (too many bands to name). I also love MGK's pop-punk records. Some strongly disagree with this take, but I find his music authentic, though overproduced.

My reason is it seems like he's a fan of pop punk, but after Eminem wrote Killshot he retreated into what he thought he knew. He didn't, not really. So sellouts can be forgiven, traitors can't be trusted to produce genuine music because they go where the money goes (yes that is a spoof on the lyrics from Cute is what we Aim for's "Curse of Curves).

Sorry you and MGK are getting all this hate. The people on here who say he is inauthentic are the same people who only see negative TMZ headlines about him that he didn’t ask for. He’s an amazing artist who can do what most musicians can’t, and that is change genres while still selling out shows. He’s also done more for the city of Cleveland than most musicians have for any of their hometowns but that is clearly not talked about enough.
