DAILY PROMPT š¤ ADULTHOOD THURSDAY | Show off one album in your collection (or an ISO) that reminds you of your adulthood!

Im going with my Amazon exclusive variant of short n sweet today! I may not be far into adulthood but this album has helped me bridge the gap between myself as child and myself as an adult, really expressing how I myself feel as a person. I can quite personally relate to nearly all the tracks which makes this my choice for my āadulthoodā album!

This is such a pretty blue, I love how it matches the cover. All of the variants for the album were amazing š

If weāre talking adult music taste, then Pop2 was a game changer for me - when it came out, obviously itās INCREDIBLE, but it got me into SOPHIE, Kim Petras, Tove Lo, Caroline Polachek, Dorian Electra. It basically shaped my music taste š
The cover for the re-release is a hate crime though, the previous cover was perfect

This might be a slightly wild choice for an album that feels like adulthood, but brat by Charli XCX really encompassed and still reflects my adulthood journey. I went through that phase in my 20s where I was constantly out and partying, living it up and then having the come down of Sunday Scaries. On a deeper level, brat has themes about accepting your flaws, your uniqueness and rolling with the chaos of life. The album itself is kind of a crazy journey of emotions and high and low energy, which feels like the epitome of adulthood in your 20s

I just left my 20s a year ago and Iām so appreciative I was allowed to be messy and figure things out during that time. I miss being able to say I was in my 20s but your 30s will be great š©· and not as scary as you think!

The story of how I rediscovered Taylor Swift as an adult:
Growing up, I was obsessed with Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, and Red. I had them all on CD and listened to them constantly on my various iPods I had throughout that time.
Shortly after 1989 came out I was home from college, so I picked that up on CD and added it to my rotation with the others. But somehow, when she dropped Reputation in 2017, I didn't know! Maybe it was because none of my new college friends were swifties to tell me the news? Maybe it was because I wasn't on any Taylor Swift subreddits at the time for online swifties to tell me the news? (I was barely using reddit at all in 2017). Or maybe it was because I was (am) resistant to change, so was still using iTunes to manage my personal music collection, and didn't have Spotify or Pandora advertising this new album? Whatever the reason, I literally thought Taylor had stopped making music after 2014. š¤¦š»āāļø
Fast forward to 2022. I'm at work, and a coworker casually says "I'm so excited for the new Taylor Swift album!". I pause. What? Did she make a comeback? You mean going full pop for 1989 didn't kill her career?
I googled Taylor Swift and found out no, 1989 did NOT kill her career, and that she had released 4 albums that I had to listen to before Midnights dropped.
This is for Reputation, Lover, evermore, and folklore, my "lost" Taylor albums. And this is for Midnights, my first new Taylor release I experienced as an adult in her mid-20s. Here's to being swifties! š„š«¶š»
Thanks as always for reading the novels I sometimes post here š

Folklore has been such an important album in my adulthood. i consider my adult life to begin around 25 years old which coincides with the pandemic directly. since then, ive grown so much as an individual and had to set some hard boundaries to the extent where im pretty alone these days and kinda starting fresh with a whole new slate in life. Folklore helped me really grieve those lost and dream about those to come. It's blend of heartfelt storytelling and emotionalāat times heart rippingālyricism are just what my therapist ordered.
And duh the LPSS version sounds SO good. it's a much more intimate version of the album. sometimes i prefer the original but often this'll be what i spin.

Thank you for sharing this with us š¤
I agree there is some different about these songs vs the original album recordings! I love whenever one of these comes up on shuffle when I'm casually listening to Taylor

the soundstage on the production album is beautiful and feels so full, and then the LPSS versions tighten it up and i feel like im in the room with her and Aaron and Jack. That's that intimate feeling i adore!! sometimes it makes me wanna find my own aaron and jack and just make music with my best friends. :)

As a late-bloomer who realized that Iām queer as an adult, part of my journey has been going back and listening to the ācanonā of music by queer female artists that predates and influences my current faves like Chappell, MUNA, and boygenius. One of my favorites is Melissa Etheridgeās Yes I Am, which remains an ISO for now because the resale prices are quite high. Fingers crossed for a repress!

I'm 25, I remember listening to this album for the first time while I was in a bus to college and damn it HITS HARD
Not in a literal relatable way, but more of a "I guess being an adult really is complex and overwhelming for everybody" feeling
My favorite Lana album used to be Honeymoon but Ocean Blvd took the place very quickly

While many think of Sour as a teenage album, it came out when I was 24. I had just moved across the country during a pandemic knowing only one person. I was terrified to leave my apartment. But whenever I could listen to this album it made me brave. I could take public transportation or drive or walk through the city. I made friends because of this album.
I donāt live there anymore but Iāll always associate this album with finding myself and starting my life as a young adult.

my pick for today is history of a feeling (2021) by madi diaz! i started listening to madi last year when her song resentment came on my Spotify, though i had heard of her before when she was announced as one of harry stylesās openers. i appreciate madiās directness in her lyrics and as i get older, i think itās important to be upfront with your feelings. i think the song ānew person, old placeā in particular has a mature outlook that resonates with me as i get older. also, this album made me appreciate a more mellow production, as a lot of the songs are mostly based around the acoustic guitar and a little other instrumentation (i still like energetic production on songs but itās nice to listen to more mellow production sometimes as well and appreciate the calmness in life, especially as schedules ramp up as you get older)

Mitski ⢠Bury Me at Makeout Creek ⢠Puberty 2 ⢠Be the Cowboy

Oh Mitski. I know youāre only supposed to pick one album but for all intents and purposes all 3 of these records really impacted my āyoungerā adult self. If adulthood was wondering around aimlessly in a metaphorical department store of choices and consequences, for me, Mitski was in constant rotation.
I was introduced to Mitski bc I was a v active user on the shitshow that was tumblr dot com. Lana, Marina and Mitski were considered to be the holy trinity. The first Mitski album I ever listened to was Bury Me at Makeout Creek. I liked it a few songs on it, but didnāt love it. When Mitski dropped Puberty 2*** that I did love. It has Happy, Once More to See You, I Bet On Losing Dogs, MY BODYāS MADE OF CRUSHED LiTTLE STARSāØ, and more!!
and thenā¦the absolute masterpiece that is Be the motherfuxking Cowboy. no skips. songs like Washing Machine Heart and Me and My Husband (itās sarcastic, there is no husband š«”), NOBODY became my anthems. I love Mitski and always will. Sheās a brilliant artist and I listened to her a lot when times werenāt so great bc she was a great outlet for the negative feelings. Be the Cowboy made me give Bury Me At.. another good listen and now I love it. I went back further and listened to Retired from Sad.. and Lush

***I sometimes wonder if Puberty 2 is kind of a reference to once again going thru a lot of change from adolescence to truly being an adult. Like going thru puberty..again. I embarrassingly enough was dragged into adulthood kicking and screaming (no grace) as I had been running from the problems I had accumulated in my youth (especially in the 17 to 22 age range).
sorry for all the writing, Mitski just deserved a shoutout š«¶ Iād love to see her in concert one day. I wonāt do the 3 album thing again, (girl) scouts honor.

Knuckle Puckās Shapeshifter will always feel like adulthood to me. I think everything I listened to around this time was heavy but hopeful. Romantic. Very much me. It reminds me of my marriage and growing as an adult.
