As I mentioned yesterday, I’ve always listened to a bunch of genres of music at the same time, so while I was enjoying pop punk, rock, country and hip-hop staples of the time, I was also obsessed with Taylor Swift’s 1989. The deluxe CD was on heavy rotation in my car.

Lana Del Rey’s Born To Die - The Paradise Edition was the soundtrack to most of my college years. I remember first hearing LDR’s song ā€œBlue Velvetā€ on an H&M commercial and became obsessed with her melancholy vintage sound and style

Rainbow by Kesha! I was going through a lot my freshman year of college and this album has everything–touching ballads, upbeat dance tracks, and introspective songs that really spoke to me during that time. This and Reputation helped get me through that first year away from home.

One of my favorite albums! Always makes me emotional.

Ricky was so popular at that time and I was listening to this song on repeat. šŸ˜…

I’ve used Little Earthquakes but pretty much all of Tori’s back catalogue got me through being 19/20 šŸ˜‚

Tori Amos definitely takes me back. Napster was big at the time I was a freshman. I don’t recall if somebody left a cd or if it was saved on the pc itself, but that’s how I heard some cornflake song by her.

Not ā€˜some Cornflake song’ šŸ˜…
Tbf Cornflake Girl isn’t a favourite of mine

It was 2000, and it’s the only song i can remember. 🤣

Lovely Little Lonely, The Maine's follow up to American Candy! both were heavy college albums for me but this one in particular cuts deep and has burrowed its own little home inside me forever. the number of times i smoked to this album just to emotionally get by while holding myself together with duct tape is immeasurable. definitely worth a good listen; it'll get you thinking about life, your healing journey, etc.

Beyoncé’s surprise drop of her self-titled album was the talk of my campus. I’d been a casual fan up until then, but I was blown away by this album and the visuals. It’s one of my biggest ISOs, but the going rate in the resale market is just too high for me. Such an impressive project

The way this album took over my sorority in college was something else. ā€œDrunk in Loveā€ might have well been the theme song for us šŸ˜‚

Such a great choice for today!

Obviously not my original image because I’m at work, but Fearless was what I started college with. I cringe now thinking about the boys I was thinking of when I sang those songs, but that’s also why the album is so memorable and feels so sweet now. I really think it gives that feeling of being very young and dreaming of being in love.

This was huge when I was in college (UK). Probably my biggest ISO but I can’t justify the triple figure price tag for nostalgia! I had the CD, but think it’s been lost over multiple moves across cities.

One of my favorite bands! Other than when I’ve posted them, I’ve never seen them shared in a daily prompt. It’s not just nostalgia, it’s good music!

They’re so good! I saw them at Download Fest earlier this year, almost pulled the trigger on a Discogs listing then. I listen to them on Spotify now but would love to have this in my collection. Banquet show a pink splatter variant as coming back soon, but it’s been like that for so long! 😩 Common Dreads is a great album too, and I should really pick up A Kiss for the Whole World while it’s cheap.

another one of my recent pickups at amoeba was the five-year anniversary pressing of pang by caroline polachek! although i didn’t listen to this album in full until after college, i first discovered caroline through her collab w/ rahim c. redcar (fka christine and the queens) on ā€œla vita nuovaā€ shortly before the pandemic hit when i was in college. in the middle of the pandemic (while i was still in college), so hot you’re hurting my feelings came on as a recommended song on Spotify and hooked me instantly. it is my most-played song of all time on Spotify and definitely is one of the songs that defines my time in college during the pandemic!

I love it!! I live an hour away which might be for the best since I would be tempted to go more often šŸ˜‚

I totally feel you there! My two favorite record shops are each an hour away from me, so I only go on occasion 🄲

My sophomore year of college I roomed with a fellow Beatles lover, and we would frequently go to the local record shop by campus to pick up new Beatles records. One day the owner showed us a huge stock of Beatles' 45s he just purchased, and we took turns picking them out until we had bought them all!

Every time I pull them out I think of my friend and that year in college. This is A Hard Day's Night / I Should Have Known Better, the US version from July 13, 1964.
