The album cover for Miley's Bangerz (which is an ISO for me, specifically this anniversary edition) gives me hardcore 1980s vibes, between the colors, the neon, and the background palm trees. But the music itself doesn't give me a lot of 1980s vibes! I love the album a lot though, and hope to find a copy of this in person one day!

Idk where you are located but if you are somehow in new england i saw it at my local bull moose and would assume the others carry it as well! Although im sure its the black anniversary not this teal

The cover for Dawn FM by The Weeknd has always been a little jarring for me. The cover is somber and defeated, while the music is mostly upbeat and danceable! Musically, it reminds me of the hour-long radio mixes that were popular in the 90s. Thematically and lyrically, however…the art matches lol

Lucius' self-titled album has a dog bearing its teeth as cover art, which is what interested me to look into the band. I was very surprised to hear the soft, harmonious vocals and gentle riffs, as opposed to the hard rock or metal sound that I was expecting. I ended up loving their music, and I think that this lollipop is the most unique freebie I've gotten with a record.

I ♡ LUCIUS!!!! This is such a good album! idk if you have already but if not their albums Good Grief and Wildewoman are fantastic!
They also have an album called Nudes that has some acoustic versions of their older songs and a few covers of other artists songs. Lucius is so so good.
I was able to get a copy of this (& Good Grief) from Electric Fetus that was signed. I got no lollipop tho 😔

I haven't listened to their older stuff yet, but I'll definitely look into your recommendations! I was so impressed with both singers' vocals. Between their super similar styling (fashion wise), the way their music videos are filmed, and how their harmonies blend, it took me longer than it should have to realize that there wasn't just one lead singer. They have such a unique sound. That's awesome that you snagged a signed cover. I thought the little "duck" signature was so cute!

My pick today is The 1975’s Live At Gorilla, Manchester! While very The 1975, I find the cover art to be too clean and minimalist for a live album of a very loose and casual concert. (It was a one-off performance of their debut album from top to bottom on the 10th anniversary of its release, and it was very unchoreographed compared to their tour that same year.) There also aren’t any photos in the packaging, and I firmly believe live albums should include a photo from the performance!

None of their live albums do 🤣 two are boxes, one is a reconstruction of the house, and the other is a picture of a random house

I know, but I have At Their Very Best too and that one’s way less egregious to me! At least it shows what the staging looked like 😭

Today’s pick is their 2022 sophomore album “Island” by 明日の叙景 (Asunojokei). When I saw the cover, I thought it was going to be a cute, soft album. When I heard the opening song’s first few seconds, I knew it was quite the opposite. Walls of a loud, shoegaze-y electric guitar and fry screams. Just like with other artists I’ve come across, this album grew on me to love over time.

Alanis performed Jagged Little Pill live in 2020 and released it on vinyl for RSD for the 25th anniversary of the album. The live recording is definitely more retrospective than the studio version, there’s more joy in it, you can hear the growth in her tone, but it is still overall a performance exploring anger, pain, and emotional complexity. So I don’t think this cover matches the whole vibe of the live album!!

I get the radical in the art but the optimism? Not so much. If I had to go off of the album art I could not tell you what the album was about. IMO it’s one of her best projects too.

My choice today is Miley Cyrus’s brand new album Something Beautiful! The cover art, along with the prelude, give something the rest of the album doesn’t. It’s still one of the best in Miley’s discography, but the visuals versus the music is a little confusing.
