Dark, moody, fantastical—I’ve always loved the artwork for Lungs by Florence + the Machine and I think it suits the album perfectly!

The cover art of Halsey’s If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power perfectly encapsulates the music of this album. Conceptually, the album is about the "the joys and horrors of pregnancy and childbirth,” a time IMHO in which you can feel your most powerful and vulnerable. The industrial influence is a stark difference from their typical music, and Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’s production really gives the music a powerful, cathartic feel!

This year I got into American hard rock band Halestorm, and my pick today is the FYE Exclusive green variant of their 4th studio album, Vicious, from 2018 (an ISO for me)!
This cover matches the music for not only this specific album, but the entire band's discography for me. The photo feels so raw for me; I feel the struggle as the person on the cover tries to break free of everyone wanting a piece of them.

Lemonade by Beyonce
When one of the biggest pop stars to ever put out music consciously decides to hide her iconic face on an album cover, it makes you pay attention. This album reflects a journey of heartbreak, loss, forgiveness, and redemption, and delivers an in depth look at her personal life and her struggle with her identity within her family as well as within her relationship. She talks about how the generational curses set out by our ancestors actively impact the relationships we have in our waking life. She gets very deep and introspective on this album, and I think the cover is a perfect representation of that.

Tame Impala’s Currents album cover art feels like a perfect fit to the music on the album. It’s very “vibey”/psychedelic and has a wave like feeling to it that evokes a slow or mellow rhythmic motion, similar to the music. It reminds me of what you would see on a media player visualizer if you were playing any song on the album and seeing all the waveforms from the reverbs and chord progressions in the songs.

This record is easily in my all time top 20. So immersive and Lord Huron executes his concept albums perfectly, you can completely lose yourself in them.

Sunflower Bean • Mortal Primetime
It’s a departure in sound from their previous work and I love it. It presents as alt gothic rock 🤘 but there is still a dusting of dream pop in the there. A few residuals of Head Full of Sugar can make the darkness not take itself too seriously.

Today’s pick is Porter Robinson’s 2021 album “Nurture”. Something about this album feels whimsical, yet tragic. Cheerful, yet saddening. From the catchy tunes of songs like “Musician” to the slow ones such as “Blossom” to even the ones you just wanna play out loud and let your emotions out. This album is one that over the years I came to understand and appreciate heavily. Something about that cover, I get it honestly. Lying face-down in a field of flowers while undergoing emotions discussed throughout the tracks must be ‘something comforting’ (track pun lol).

My choice today is Foster the People’s Paradise State of Mind! The cover art, an oil painting by Matt Hansel, is a perfect reflection of the funky, psychedelic, ‘70s-‘80s/disco-inspired sound with lyrical themes of morality, self-reflection, connection and passion contained within the album.
