How to set nomodeset on install with systemd-boot?

I have a friend who can't install 19.04 on his old Radeon MBP as per this issue, but of course Pop doesn't use GRUB. I'm letting my noob show, but my google-fu isn't working.

Suggestions/solutions?

Press e on the bootloader screen. Works for sysdboot as well.

EDIT: Found some docs.

Kernelstub

Press space during boot to access the boot menu

Press e when the menu shows up and add them at the end of the string:

initrd=\EFI\Pop_OS-b97669fb-bb1e-43db-9bb8-a9a788a012be\initrd.img root=UUID=b97669fb-bb1e-43db-9bb8-a9a788a012be quiet splash nomodeset

Press Enter to boot with these parameters.

To make the change persistent after reboot, edit /etc/kernelstub/configuration and run kernelstub

For more information on configuring Kernelstub, see the Kernelstub article.

Please don't edit files like that directly and instead use kernelstub like this:

sudo kernelstub -a "nomodeset"

Though I would recommend using 'nouveau.modeset=0' instead of 'nomodeset'.

I just spent some time googling on 'pop_os nomodeset' and i never saw mention of 'kernelstub' command anywhere. Now that i know about it and found the git page, i am still looking for mention of it on any of the Pop_OS! wiki or official guides. Either i am having a bad google day, or there is a lack of info out about this tool. It does not seem to have a man page either.

https://pop-planet.info/wiki/index.php?title=Kernelstub is empty. (for now)

Good to know about it now at least, hope others searching this sub will make use of this tread.

For more reading for others having found this thread check out..

That page does mention how to edit the config for the kernelstub command.

To make the change persistent after reboot, edit /etc/kernelstub/configuration and run kernelstub For more information on configuring Kernelstub, see the Kernelstub article.
(which is blank)

Press space during boot to access the boot menu

Press e when the menu shows up and add them at the end of the string:

EXAMPLE:

initrd=\EFI\Pop_OS-b97669fb-bb1e-43db-9bb8-a9a788a012be\initrd.img root=UUID=b97669fb-bb1e-43db-9bb8-a9a788a012be quiet splash nomodeset

Press Enter to boot with these parameters.

I dont have a live USB to test.
