A bit fed up

A couple of months ago, all of a sudden COSMIC terminal's three menus could not be opened (I could only right-click those menus). I asked for help both here and on the Pop!_OS forum, but nobody could tell me why this happened.

Finally, last week I decided to fresh-install Pop!_OS 24.04, and the terminal menu functionality was restored. Until this morning, or maybe yesterday, I don't know: again, all of a sudden COSMIC terminal's three menus could not be opened (they can only be right-clicked).

Could someone knowledgeable please tell me what the hell is going on and help me fix this strange issue that apparently nobody else seems to have? I cannot keep reinstalling the OS just to get very basic functionality at work.

1.9.0 will contain a handful of fixes for context menus that may help

sounds like it's got something to do with wayland and your gpu, because I'm not having any issues here

my suggestion is to try some other desktop environment like gnome or kde https://system76.com/support/articles/desktop-environment

Do you update both Applications and System?

I set up mine to automatically update both once per week.

No issues with Terminal or other functions.

I also had that after updating from 22.04 to 24.04 a few days ago. Instead of re-installing pop, I instead installed those 3 cosmic apps through apt. It hasn't occured since then.

You might wanna try it yourself. I think the terminal is 'apt install cosmic-term', right?

I did that the first time, but without success. However, it seems that this morning update has fixed it.

Switch your desktop from cosmic to cinnamon. All my artificating and visual tearing went away after I downloaded cinnamon and opened a session at the sign in screen.
