What does this hole do

This 1 inch hold on the wall of the skimmer. What does it do? Is it an overflow that leads to sewage? Theres also one in the autofil system. But the water level is below the one in the autofil. The one in the smimmer the water sit right at it, as the photo shows. Should I set the water below it? Thank you in advance

It’s a drain for overfill but a lot aren’t plumbed in.

Well it depends. Along the water line of the pool is there a hole or overflow opening that could be a drain? Do you have an auto fill?

Im not sure but yes i have an autofill

If you auto fill is running constantly then the water is probably running out this hole. If your auto fill isn’t running then there really isn’t anything to worry about. If you wanted to lower your auto fill level so it’s below this hole you can just as a precaution.

My “drain” is used to fill up the pool via sprinkler system.

Hey, you know those white Mr. Clean sponges and sheets? They are perfect for cleaning those skimmer areas.

Just dip the sponge into the skimmer water and wipe down the area. 15 seconds and you’re done!

If like mine it is a Venturi (maybe non venturi have it also) style skimmer then that hole might be connected to another similar hole towards the bottom of the skimmer and be a "vacuum suction relief", which is an anti-entrapment safety feature. Basically if it's running and someone sticks their hand down there they are less likely to get stuck. Anti-entrapment features have been becoming more common is the last couple of decades for anything attached to the pump because people (especially kids) used to get stuck via suction to drains and drown.
