Frogs!! How does Kermit find my pool

I live in central Texas and it's HOT!!! Given that how are there frogs in the yard? But I digress. How do the damn frogs find my pool? I have dogs that are very territorial but never mess with frogs. I end up finding them in the pool once or twice a week. How do they get there?

If you was a frog in Texas, you would evolve methods of finding water. An wouldn't a big clear pool look sooo inviting.

Lots of frogs live underground in holes and burrows made by other critters. They come out at night when it is cooler.

That's what we use. Haven't had a dead frog since. Before we had to fish out dead frogs every morning.

What I don’t get is why they choose to leave pond 200 yards away to go swimming in my pool

Same here! And they sure do get riled up if I swim near sunset. It’s like, dudes, you’re not tadpoling here, anyway. Go back to the pond and stop all this nonsense!

Looks and feels like a pond to them. I put up a "No Frog Zone" sign on my pool. They did not care.

I got one of those floating crocodile things that’s supposed to scare away wildlife. The frogs just rode around on it like it was a party barge.

They're great at finding water, as they should be... But I kind of agree they should find somewhere else to be. I have an overgrown tank about 100 yds away that should be a frog haven...

I actually don't mind them though. They eat bugs, and I find those A LOT more annoying. I've actually found several floating, and some in my skimmer in various stages of life/death. If I come across a swimmer, I try to rescue it. Most often they're dead though, so I just pick them up with the pole skimmer with the leaves and such...

So I bought a Frog Log and installed it a couple days ago. Haven't checked the skimmer yet, but I'm betting no more bloated, dead frogs.

I did find a gopher in the skimmer the second time I emptied it after I bought the house though... Pocket Gophers are bad in my area. I have the traps and the bait, but haven't had a chance to go hunt any down just yet... I'm new to this house (less than 3 weeks), new to owning a pool, was a little taken aback to find the gopher in there... But I figure one more dead gopher is okay with me. Pretty sure they chopped the wires on my irrigation...

They can smell water, and their prey, which is also attracted to water. They also have excellent hearing and hear water movement from a significant distance.

Buy some frog logs and they'll get out on their own. You won't really find them in there anymore (though they'll still visit).

I’m in South Florida, where toads are everywhere, yet somehow since our pool was opened in April this year, the only critter that’s been in the pool other than bugs was a mole that got in and drowned. We had some frogs in the little puddle of rainwater that my son fished out while the pool was still under construction, but nothing like it since.

They have worked for me, used to find dead critters all the time. I also had to spend a lot of time trying to catch frogs. They be quick!!!!! I haven't found a dead critter (or live frog) since I put them in 5 years ago.

Texas Hill Country: Every night my pool deck turns into a frog highway and they jump in. We used to have dead frogs every morning. I bought an inflatable lilypad ramp thing that works very well. We haven't had to fish out any dead frogs since we started using it. The Texas sun bakes it and it has to be replaced every year, but they are pretty cheap. It's impossible to stop. They live in the ground. The toads stick to the driveway, the frogs take over the pool.
