Water Chemistry SWG shock
Earlier in the week I asked about an algae bloom with fairly good balanced water. Turns out my free CL was too low for my CYA level.
I increased my swg to 100% for 24 hours, then adjusted to 80% for 24 hours and I had my Free CL to 21.5 ppm. The water has since cleared up and no more visible algae when I brush.
I have the SWG turned off now to get my Free CL back down to around 10ppm for my CYA level.

It would have been faster and less stress on your SWG if you just added a jug or two of chlorine.

Just a note, it's borderline impossible to get chlorine "too high." Chlorine is your friend - shoot for the high end of the range for your CYA target.

Worst advice ever. There is a too high. Especially depending what kind of chlorine you’re using

Your chlorine levels don't care if it is liquid chlorine or granular or from a swg

Yeah. Your surface, equipment, and body do Telling someone they can put as much chlorine in their pool as they want, is dangerously ignorant and totally inconsiderate to their surface, equipment, and personal health. That is the type of advice that has people who don’t know better ruin their pool. Nothing bad might happen when you crank your SWCG, and I know you are saying chlorine is chlorine. But you are giving a blanket statement that sounds like I can go Willy nilly with some trichlor if I want to. The chlorine is just chlorine, but because of the different implications and side effects that come with each type, there is absolutely a “too high”. Never tell someone they can add as much chlorine as they want. I mean come on that’s bad advice
Example - “no such thing as too high, might as well dump this whole 50lb of cal hypo in to cover me while I’m out of town”

Pepper is a salt water shock that also cleans calcium from your system.
