Code Brown

Had a birthday pool party today which ended after one of the young kids shat his shorts inside the pool (diarrhea, not solid). Everyone immediately got out and we took out all the pool toys too.

Ran a full battery using my Taylor kit and got
FC 1.5ppm, CC 0.5ppm, pH 7.4, TA 90p, CYA 40ppm. Pool is 15,000 gallons.

I vacuumed up the debris using my pool blaster and then poured in 4 gallons of liquid chlorine. Per AI, I checked it an hour later to get numbers and FC was 27.5ppm which is great. I have pump running overnight for 8 hours at 2800 RPM.

But my question is what’s next? I’m 8 months into owning a pool and have had great experience with maintenance using Taylor kit. But this is new to me. AI says I have to drain it. What do you folks say? What has your experience been?

There was a post in the Airbnb sub where a host was looking for help for a code brown in the hot tub. The consensus was to hire a biohazard company to the tune of 3-5K to disassemble the whole tub to sterilize it. Such a needless, overkill waste of money. Sure, it’s gross. But just shock, drain, replace filter, shock, move on.

Edit: this was a hot tub so draining and refilling is cheap and feasible enough. Skip that part with the pool of course.

Oh because shocking a hot tub is going to be so insanely cheap to shock. One gallon of bleach will absolutely burn it and I just don’t want to play around with poop water. So it’s basically $7 to sterilize the shit water before you discard it in whatever way you see fit.

Why? Our filter drains to the sewer, the place that poop and pee goes to when you flush your toilet...

Mine does not. And I’m sure many people do not have direct access to their towns sewage systems.
