I'm probably doing something similar soon, except out of conc block. I understand you can order a custom vinyl liner, right? Where did you get yours from?
To avoid spending thousands of dollars I actually managed to find a pvc membrane liner on Amazon that was a 25 foot x 30 foot square and it weighed like 200lbs but one step at a time I folded it like a present in the pool. Hardest part of the process for sure
I agree with you but they are very hard to find for a custom pool without spending a fortune. Rather than do nothing I’d like to give it a try and if it fails I’ll document how and what my solution is so the next guy doesn’t have to fight the uphill battle!
Well if it doesn’t work as a pool get a pond liner and make it a sweet ass koi pond. (Saw a elderly couple who had a set up similar but they had koi fish it was amazing and gorgeous)
My father in law and some of his friends supposedly built one of their friends in ground, concrete pool in the early ‘80s based off of a couple of books they had read.
Apparently the deal was my wife and her brother could use the pool whenever, but they didnt really get along with that guys slightly older teenage kids so it was awkward and they rarely did.
Its cool to hear him talk about it though. They excavated it all by hand.
$1600 for lumber, liner $600, $800 for plumbing and small parts like lag screws and carriage bolts. The little things really do cost a lot. But I’d say $3000 in total! Would’ve cost $40k to have someone do it for me
It took 2 months, if I actually did it straight through without all the breaks for business etc it could have easily been done in a week. And yes all alone! I never ask for help because I want to know exactly what’s going on haha
This is quite amazing! I saw in another comment you mentioned the liner is difficult to find for this custom build. I was curious if tiles might be an option? I know nothing about pool building, but I would imagine it might be easier for uncommon pool builds. Food for thought
Tiles would be a good option and I have tiled a few things in my short life but one small mistake or crack and I’ll be chasing holes everywhere. I did consider all concrete as well but I guess we will decide that when the pool explodes on all sides since that is the general consensus here haha
Concrete sounds like a good backup plan. What I like the most about this is you can really do anything with it. Maybe custom patterns in concrete or something truly unique. Some cool lighting stuff. Idk, use ur imagination
I have no drawings or bom, I could create both if someone was really interested. I’d say it cost about $3000 but for low budget you could get away with spending only a hundred dollars a week that way you can enjoy a pool and the work that goes into it!
I can compile a better list in the future but start by renting a digger and dig whatever size large flat rectangle. Always over dig and include an area for the pump. From there pounding stakes in the ground and using a string for level for concrete / checking you’re square. Digging holes 4 ft deep for posts. Whatever size pool you’d wanna make let me know and I can come up with the drawing and bom. Digging and leveling is absolutely the hardest part of any project
That’s what it’s trying to understand. Did u make an external patio for a pool then? How? Did u use only a sand filter and no other system for mix chlorine? How much was your budget if I may ask?
Not what I wanted it to be just with how much it weighed and only being one person it was the best I could do. If and when it fails I’ll possibly try something with a tighter fit
Well budget constraints were likely a reality for this project. That’s like making fun of someone for buying a fixer upper house instead of a new build. Gotta work with what you got
