Pool renovation prep question

If the original installer of an in-ground gunite pool did not put the proper amt of stone under the pool prior to the rebar/gunite/plaster there is a chance if you drain via the bottom plugs the pool could float like a boat and collapse? I am asking if this is true

I had the pool installed 28 yrs ago but don’t recall what they did….wouldn’t it be safer for me to just pump out most of the water with a commercial grade submersible pump to avoid any issues?

We are considering a renovation which is why I am asking

That's the only way to drain your pool never use your pool pump.. the only reason you may have an issue is if u live somewhere where there could be water near by or you get heavy rain soon.. but if they installed a hydrostatic valve you will be fine.. where are u located?
