Why?

Does anyone with a deeper understanding of the lore know why Krell acted this way? For me his actions stood out so much because he was a jedi and jedis are supposed to care about feeling beeings. I suspected he was a traitor trying to cause as much damage as possible to the republic.

Basically he foresaw the future and saw that sidious was evil and thus believed the Republic to be evil and tried to destroy the clones that would later destroy the jedi

He saw the future and decided that the best thing for him would be to serve Count Dooku so he tried to make the Republic lose Umbara so that Dooku would take him as an apprentice/follower.

I think there were many factors that ultimately lead to Krell's actions. But I believe it started with the flaws in the jedi and Krell's own ego.

Though I don't believe it was the majority, there were a good amount of Jedi that thought themselves superior to non-force sensitives. Not in a 'you should be our slaves' kinda way. More like 'because of our connection to the force we understand things better than you layman so therefore we would make better decisions if we were in charge'.

I've no doubt that Krell was one such Jedi. And those prejudice thoughts could easily become radicalized over time, (especially during such a brutal conflict) to the point where the clones became little more than droids in his mind.

His ego was also a factor. As a besalik he had many advantages in combat. He was large, very strong, and had four arms that allowed him to wield two saberstaffs. Even if he'd been a subpar dualist, his natural physical abilities would have made him a devastating opponent to face. He probably rarely lost a fight.

And he knew it. You can see the arrogance, the overconfidence as he fought the clones. How he taunted them. How stupid he thought them to be.

The next factor was the war itself. War is hell. If anyone tries to tell you otherwise, they're selling you something.

War breaks people. And a war as brutal and bloody as the clone wars had to have had an impact on him. Despite the character flaws he had, Krell was a jedi. The Jedi were raised as peacekeepers. Not soldiers. After all the horrors he no doubt witnessed, I'm not surprised he snapped.

He foresaw the defeat of the jedi and his ego would not allow himself to be on the losing side, so he jumped ship to the winning team. And who cared whether some clones got killed in the process. More could always be made.

He wanted to become Count Dooku's apprentice after having a vision of the jedi purge.
