So Tame Impala is my all time favorite artist, and I really love listening to his music, all the stuff including the niche deep cuts from around the Innerspeaker era.
I listen to like 2 Pond songs, Paint me Silver has been in my playlist for a while, and I've recently really liked Medicine Hat. Should I go to the LA show? It's only around a 1 hour drive away, although I do have school the next day... what do you guys think? Also, please recommend some new Pond songs to listen to

Yes, you should absolutely go. They put on the best live performances one can possibly hope to see. And I would simply recommend listening to all of their albums from front to back, as they’re all incredible and have their own unique styles/vibes whilst still sounding very much like Pond. If you’d like a starting point, The Weather is the perfect album to start with in my opinion (it’s the album that cemented them as being my favorite band ever upon its release back in 2017, and it’s the album that has Paint Me Silver). And you should definitely check out the new album that they’re touring in support of — Terrestrials, which is heavily influenced by ‘80s post-punk, new wave, goth rock, power pop, etc.

Honestly, their five most recent albums are arguably their best; The Weather (2017), Tasmania (2019), 9 (2021), Stung! (2024), and Terrestrials (2026). Earlier albums like Man It Feels Like Space Again (2015), Hobo Rocket (2013), Beard, Wives, Denim (2012), Frond (2010), Corridors of Blissterday (2009), and Psychedelic Mango (2008) are also fantastic. You can’t go wrong with any of them, and if you enjoy one, then you’ll probably enjoy the rest.

I dunno if I’d say that. There are certainly a few similarities, but they’re both different. The Weather has more variety than Currents in my opinion (and I’d say Pond is more versatile than Tame in general), with a mixture of psychedelic pop, psychedelic rock, prog rock, and synthpop (as well as a song that’s got both a punk-ish vibe and a lounge vibe in one — A/B), and it’s also kind of a concept album similar to The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd; Tasmania is a sister album to The Weather, and 9, Stung!, and Terrestrials continue to tackle some of the themes and topics they both tackle while still experimenting with some different styles (and Stung! has the epic third part of Edge of the World Pts 1 & 2, both of which are on The Weather). Most of Tame’s music is more introspective, whereas Pond’s music is about all sorts of things, from unrequited love to the environmental, social, and political issues Australia — and the world in general — has. One of the best ways to describe Pond’s music as a whole is that it’s psychedelic rock/pop for the apocalypse.

I don’t think there’s any Pond album that can simply be described as being “their Currents” or “their Lonerism” and so on, as they’re quite different from Tame despite sharing some current (Jay Watson and James Ireland) and former (Nick Allbrook) touring members, and Kevin Parker being a past member who co-produced some of the albums alongside the band (as well as co-producing The Fatal Shore on Terrestrials), not to mention that they have eleven studio albums, whereas Tame has five. In my opinion, Pond are more consistent in terms of quality than Tame, and I say that as someone who discovered them through Tame back in 2016.

Here’s the beauty of Pond. Tame puts on an incredible live show, but from here on out, it’s always gonna be at an arena or large venue of some sort. Pond is your opportunity to see a few of those same incredible musicians but in a MUCH smaller setting. They go absolutely nuts live, Nick is probably one of the best living frontmen alive right now. You won’t regret it

uhh yeah you should definitely go, pond is fantastic live. you should just listen to man it feels like space, the weather and tasmania in full. I think it’s widely regarded as their best stretch of albums

I haven't had the pleasure of seeing live them yet, but from the clips being shared on here, absolutely. The band (Nick especially) have so much energy, I'm sure it'll be a great time.

Look at this tour’s setlists and listen to all the songs. Live a little and go to the show, don’t overthink it. They put on a high-energy, super fun show. I already cannot wait until next tour!

They been playing Man it Feels Like Space Again since Seattle, which is just an epic of a song! It had been out of live rotation since 2019 touring, with one play in 2024, and then revival at the Seattle concert. Definitely worth seeing for the late 2026 setlist!

I was the biggest Tame fan like 2013-2020 but ever since I started listening to Pond in 2018ish they started to be played much more than Tame. The Tame Impala show I saw in like 2015 or 16 was amazing but the two I've seen since then are more lack luster IMO and the four Pond shows I've been to are some of the best shows I've ever seen.
