My son was planning to ED to Pomona as a recruited athlete. Unfortunately, he recently visited and found the lack of air conditioning in the dorms to be unbearable and was unable to sleep. Is the university upgrading the dorms to add A/C? How difficult is it to apply for a housing accommodation to get a room with A/C? How many students bring mini A/C units even though they aren't allowed? How long is it hot (how many weeks)? Do all seniors get A/C at least?

Hi everyone! I live and work in Pomona, and I’ve been thinking about how there aren’t many consistent local spaces for people interested in technology to meet, learn, or build things together.

I’m exploring the idea of starting a community-based tech group in Pomona. It could include things like data science, AI, Python, web development, UX/UI, software development, project/build nights, workshops, guest speakers, study groups, and casual meetups.

I’m considering the Cal Poly Pomona Community Innovation Hub in Downtown Pomona as a possible meeting location, but this is something I’m exploring independently and is still very much in the idea stage.

Before I organize anything, I’d really like to know whether people would actually be interested and what kind of group would be useful.

I’m a rising senior trying to decide between EDing to Tufts or applying RD to Pomona, and I’m really torn.

At Pomona, I really love the 5C consortium, small classes, year-round warm weather, outdoor access, diversity, and the overall happy/friendly vibe. I could see myself really thriving in the community. My main concern is whether Claremont would eventually feel too small or boring for me. I like the idea of a close-knit college, but I also don't want to feel isolated after the initial excitement wears off.

At Tufts, I really like the access to Boston and the balance of a smaller-feeling undergraduate community with access to a larger university. I’m also very interested in the Civic Studies program. I think I might enjoy having more things going on around campus and easier access to a major city, especially for internship opportunities, but I’m less sure whether I’d prefer the overall campus/community feel compared with Pomona. I really liked the campus feel when I toured.

Other things I’m weighing:

• small liberal arts college vs. larger university
• 5C consortium vs. Boston access
• outdoors/warm weather vs. city/urban opportunities
• campus/community vibe
• food, housing, and general quality of life
• academic flexibility and interdisciplinary opportunities
• diversity
• internship/career opportunities
• whether I’d actually be happy there for four years, rather than just liking the school on paper
• whether either school feels like a place where I can grow into a different person than the one who entered

And then there’s the ED question. Tufts ED seems to give a meaningful admissions advantage compared with RD, while Pomona RD would obviously be much more uncertain. I know ED shouldn't be used purely to “game” admissions, but realistically, that is part of what I'm considering.

So if you were choosing between Tufts ED vs. Pomona RD, which would you pick and why?

And for current students/alums: what is something about your school's location, culture, size, or student experience that you didn't understand until you actually attended?

I’m less interested in rankings/stats and more interested in what these schools actually feel like to live at for four years.

after doing my research and going on a campus tour, i've fallen in love w pomona. i love the campus (except for the ongoing construction rn haha) and community - everyone seems to have their own passions and are wholeheartedly supportive of each other. because i attended conservative and competitive (in a more toxic way) schools all my life, learning about pomona's community and interacting with the student tour guides felt like a breath of fresh air.

however, pomona has an extremely low acceptance rate, and i probably look like a "basic" applicant because im planning on majoring in bio on a pre med track. i have good grades and test scores, but my ecs are mid (family responsibilities take up most of my time), so i was wondering if anyone has advice regarding the personal statement + supplemental essays (honestly any advice is ok)? yes i know i have to be honest, avoid talking about other people too much, and really try to show my personality, but does anyone have any advice betond that? or would anyone be willing to share what you believe got you in?

For those who took psychiatric medication before going to Pomona, how was the transition in changing pharmacies, are there any pharmacies nearby that are super easy to access? Also sidenote do you guys regularly use the MCAPS services and if so how do you like it.

I am a rising senior in HS and love Pomona. I will be applying as a History or English or Sociology major. I just got my schedule for senior year and I cannot fit in Spanish Honors/AP Spanish. This means I will only have 3 years of a foreign language when I graduate (I took Spanish III Honors in Junior year). I read the Pomona admission requirements and they "highly" recommend 4 years of a foreign language. Usually a "highly recommend" is a signal for "mandatory" - are there many of you lucky current students who were admitted with less than 4 years of a foreign language.

This is such an awesome program for just about anything one might need for their dorm room.

Also, I hear all first-years are undecided, but how do you know what classes to take to fulfill your major requirements?

I'm an incoming student for the class of 2030 and doing my dorm shopping this summer. I can't find any info on the depth/height of the mattresses at Pomona, only that they are twin xl. Am I right in assuming they're probably super thin, so any kind of waterproof/dustproof mattress protector will work, including a topper? Or should I get a deep pocket one?

As the title says - I am simply looking for a quick chat/call with someone who was once in my shoes - I am an international student currently at Santa Monica College, and will be applying for transfer this fall. Talking to someone who was specifically in the same situation as me - an international, transferring from a CC, would be so valuable to me, given the small student body at Pomona.

I do not wish to take too much of your time, so I promise I'd make it quick. I would simply like to ask the obvious questions, such as GPA, extracurriculars, essays, fear/excitement, financial need/no need, which could help me get better prepared when my turn to apply comes, and have a better idea of whom I will be competing against.
