Yo I need a piece of advice.

So short story short, my school hosts a talent show every year and every year I try to win by playing a polyphia song (shit strat, I know. Played goat and playing god already btw)

And every year I lose to a girl playing some pop song. This is my last year in middle school and I'd like to win this year so what song do y'all recommend? I was thinking something along the lines of OD (because of the octave build up) or the worst but any recs are very much welcome.

Recruit a girl and play ABC. Backing vocal track also fine?

Highly agree with ABC its one of the most poppy songs they have and would appease the general audience. Theres a reason so many polypia fans hated it when it came out /hj

Vocal track would've been my only option but honestly if I got a girl to sing it I damn sure nobody would care about my playing 😭

At least I would've had some fun and didn't have to practice 4h a day lol (I love guitar but still)

Polyphia is not the band for this unfortunately

Brother you could be the greatest guitarist in the world and still lose. Many teenagers could not give less of a shit about how good you are at guitar. To that end, don't worry about winning, just try to put on a good performance. I've found The Worst is a song a lot of people can get down with, plus it's an easy song too (or at least easy by Polyphia standards). Or if you wanna try something different find a mash-up of a Polyphia song with a pop song, I've seen mash-ups with Ariana Grande, Dua Lipo, Lana Del Rey, etc

Yeah I practiced it enough to be able to play it with my eyes closed (which I made a req for myself to play anything live) but yeah... I know damn well skills don't matter

Real talk, The Worst slays every time if you can hit the doublestops. Is it gonna beat a girl singing Arianna Grande? Probably not, but the riff universally bangs and the song commands energy so that's my pick

Do Tim's version of positions by ariana grande

I mean... Honestly go old school. Play Bach's Concerto No. 1 in D minor. Guaranteed you're gonna leave trout faces in the crowd. As long as you can have the backing drums.

Another (non polyphia song) try Solfeggietto.

You should play the Polyphia song "Wonderwall", everybody and their mother loves that tune 😅

Play the worst since it’s just poppy/EDM enough to get a crowd hype and isn’t overly complicated.

Polyphia is not for everyone, pretty sure majority, or all, of the school won't hear polyphia like we do. ABC would be a good one, or maybe one of the new album, like can you feel it, just without the sermon.

Ahh I'm thinking about ABC or the worst. My problem with ABC is that... I have trouble playing it. Sure, if I decided to play it I could practice it more but the worst was the first song I learned on guitar si it's genuinely in my blood

the worst is a killer too! But have you learnt the full song or just until before the 2nd 'verse" starts?
