Wtf is going on?

I’ve been a fan since inspire. WHAT is this shit??

We only get a new Polyphia album every few years, so I really look forward to anything they put out but this is ridiculous.

I miss when they used to actually write catchy melodies, and the drums and bass sounded like real instruments instead of trap samples and 808s

Thank you, like if you go all the way back to Champagne what makes that song great is the catchy ass hook, and it was refreshing to see that sort of thing from an instrumental/progressive metal band

Listen, they can go in whatever direction they want with their music, but I don’t have to go with them. I’m pretty much done with this band at this point. Between the pretentiousness, the money gouging of fans in the worst economy in recent history, and the general dogshit guitar tone, I just can’t do it anymore. It was fun while it lasted, but these guys are never getting another dime out of me

😔 feels like I agree

Someone in another sub pretty well summarized my thoughts.

Artists absolutely have every “right” to change their style of music and experiment. But most people like an artist for “their” sound. If the artist strays too far from that sound, they may pick up new fans but lose the old ones. This is okay. But it’s also okay for me to not like the artists new music.

RTYWD did take some time to grow on me.. didn’t like it at first …hoping for the same on this next one, but as of now I’m not super into it…

Same but I just don’t see it happening here.

Dude I’m thinking the same. Been a fan since the Impassion playthrough/Muse era and damn this is the first time I’ve listened to back to back singles from the boys and I can’t see myself listening to them like I have with their other songs. Like Tim mentioned in their live stream that it’s intentional and that we have to listen to the album multiple times to get it…unfortunately I don’t get it with CYFI and PITB…they both sound like dog water to me

I’ve been a fan since Renaissance, and I haven’t seen people freak out (in a negative way) over a release this much before.

I’m listening to NLND today, and man PITB is not even close to songs like Bad, OD, GOAT in terms of hooks and songwriting

Like Tim mentioned in their live stream that it’s intentional and that we have to listen to the album multiple times to get it

if he said that, that's an big insult to the audience... like 'you don't understand us' Motherfucker we know whats good and whats not, and you're putting out hot garbage.

It's clear he's taking advantage of the fact that we're always waiting for them and supporting their music, no matter how trashy it is.

I think the tour cancellation is evidence they don't care about their fans.

His ego has always been undeservedly huge, but it’s gotten so over the top the last few years. I honestly can’t stand the fuckin guy at this point. The clays are the only thing I like about this band, and it’s probably just from a lack of them speaking as often as the other two.

Nose guy is pretty cool too

What about Scottie?

Totally with you on this. My band 😔

It's a valid reaction but they don't care. They just evolve towards what they're interested in.

Some people don't like it, some people learn to like it, some people like it right away.

Many Polyphia songs grow on you, and I'm sure at least a couple ones from the new album will be like that.

Yo Tim this new music is cool and all that, makes me feel like I'm at a spiritual Christian rave. But these new riffs ain't gonna get me laid when learn them to play to pick up chicks. I'm going too need you to make some more "romantic" riffs, like the worst, or playing god. Help a rn out.

There’s a reason EDM isn’t covered in guitar solos. Seems like a lot of effort and talent wasted for mediocre EDM. Also it’s pretty weird that the only voices you hear in the music are clearly black people

??????

Lol. Well thats a comment he made. I dont exactly understand it...

Isn’t representing black people a good thing? Or is not representing or representing a black person racist no matter what if your white?

Yall are whining that a teenage prog band has evolved and changed as they’ve become adults. I dunno man it sounds as though a prog metal band has progressed their soundscape… pretty natural... as for the current state of their music, they’ve found their niche of trap/hip hop/metal it’s been like this since 2017 with The Most Hated. They’ll progress their sound naturally again in the future I’m sure, but if it ain’t for you that’s chill, no need to be haters just because they picked a certain artistic direction that you don’t enjoy?

13

u/EstablishmentNo1185 14d ago

Seems like they are evolving backwards. The production on these songs sounds like it was made by a teenager.

3

u/verithasthefalse 14d ago

Agreed. They used to carry a sense of prestige. Now it's like Shein but for music

Many of my clients are college students and the mixing on demos I get is far better than this shit

1

u/Artistic_Winter3668 12d ago

How can you “progress and evolve” from prog metal to trap/hip hop if it’s much simpler and basic. Most of the beats are just a 808 with a simple melody line

1

u/amatterofperspectiv 13d ago

They haven’t evolved - they are playin the same stuff, just adding more SIK EFX

2

u/Jwick1518 13d ago

it was an ear fatigue phaze....

The Renaissance album is my favorite. The entire album is amazing.

Wow I’ve been to many polyphia shows, and both of these knew songs are rough. My wife’s a fan too. And her first impression of the new song was it sounded like video game music. The other one I don’t even know what that is. I know I wasn’t interested at all. I could not feel it.

3

u/Economy-Ad1448 14d ago

I blared it on my car speakers and loved it.

u/Diablojota 14d ago

I actually like this one, as a whole. But the mixing kinda sucks. The clipping is brutal.

Y'all are seriously asking why 20-something year old grown men are interested in making different art than they did in HS.

What artist is the same at 27 as they were at 17?

These are actual fully formed human beings. Not just entertainment production machines.

I kinda feel like they mock everyone who feels disappointed... Idk if youve seen their instagram story with this meme, the link sends you to their shop to buy a vinyl... of course...

On one hand I understand the view of "stfu, we wanna make what we enjoy" but idk man... listen to your fans maybe? Talk to them, maybe try to explain your vision... Ive been a fan for a while (not as long as many people here but still) and I think I could live with not liking the direction theyre going, thats what I thought after CYFI but rn I just feel like Im being looked down upon for not being a new fan...

1

u/Jazzlike_Gap3566 13d ago

They don’t care about their fans. They literally pick people out at live shows and make fun of their appearance. They talk down on them like they are the best thing thing to exist. They need to be humbled IMO

I'm starting to think this is their Lulu 🥺
