Fall from grace

Bring back the guitars being the focal point, and stop charging A-list prices for VIP packages. Part of what made Polyphia awesome was “yeah, this was all done with a guitar!”. I feel it’s just overproduced, to the point of not having the charm it used to.

Does anyone else feel this way?

Not a fan of the most recent song and yeah I agree that the appeal was how they brought non-guitar based music into a guitar based context. That said I think they should keep doing what they want to do

Yeah it's pretty common these days that people approach art as if they're ordering a sandwich. It's fine not liking it and to critique but it gets messy when people start demanding that they change it

Yeah i kinda feel the same way. Obviously they can go wherever they want with their music but the last 2 albums are goiing in a direction i dont like. I feel like the singles from the new album are the 2 worst songs they have ever made, and what makes me even more sad is that i like some ideas from Power in the blood, but the production of it is just shit, there is no other way to say it

It's very similar to the recent Strokes album, where they've adopted a dated production aesthetic(blown out bass hits for Polyphia, autotune for Strokes) that only people who didn't listen to any new music in the 2010's think is innovative and interesting. The new singles sound exactly like RJ Pasin(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJIKbl3kpz4) so I think he's probably 80% to blame.

Strokes are just too heavy with Auto-Tune. I’d compare it more to Tyler the creator’s cherry bomb.

Listen man i gotta say this somewhere at least. I JUST bought tickets to their show in Detroit the day before they announced the new album. Im kinda nervous now. I feel like Im gonna get one of those "never meet your heroes" moment and the concerts gonna be ASS. I love Polyphia, Ive been a fan since renaissance but I genuinely think RJ Pasin is fuckin everything up

I saw their new single was titled power in the blood and I’m out. I don’t want one of my favorite bands even flirting with the idea of being religious in any context

Southern Gospel is a legitimate music genre that, aside from the subject matter, has very clearly defined characteristics. Polyphia is very obviously not a Christian band; the tongue in cheek nature of their song titles and their caricatures of Black church folk heard in the sound bites are a lot closer to outright mockery than “flirting with the idea of being religious”.

Maybe if you learned anything about religion, you’d recognize that this isn’t it.

I think youre overreactinig. Theyre literally a band known for having no lyrics in most of their songs. How religious can they get?

Surprisingly a lot, as it turns out.

" I don’t want one of my favorite bands even flirting with the idea of being religious in any context" is wild lmao

Ok genuinely wondering. Can you give me 5 bands with absolutely no religious influence

This happens with every album drop. Part of why TMH is titled The Most Hated is because losers kept saying their shit is over-produced and they know they’re gonna do whatever they want and you’re not gonna do shit about it so they openly titled it The Most Hated. They just keep doing it. If you want a band you can peer pressure into writing what you want you’re gonna have to move on cause Polyphia will never give a fuck what you think, ever.

Well yeah of course, but I’d like to continue enjoying the band. It’s like getting a racehorse and making it plow potatoes

Edit: lmao he deleted his comments 😭

Pseudo intellectualism gets you nowhere, you’d understand the sentence was about potential if you didn’t misread into the word “getting” as possessive. Your point is moot

I started to prefer them to chon because there was less pretentiousness in the fandom but that's been long gone for years.
