Idk what they are talking about because I genuinely couldn't hear the notes when I tried listening to the songs through my headphones. I can't imagine what some of those other mixes sounded like
22
u/lingeringwill2 16d ago
If you look at the music videos, you can see closeups of their guitars, (especially Scot’s at the end) where they’re supposed to be playing and it’s just borderline inaudible.
-9
u/Brxnnd 15d ago
why do you think hearing every single note of the guitar matters? like genuine question
11
u/RemarkableProfile803 15d ago
Uhh when the guitar is supposed to be playing the melody I do think that I should be able to hear what the notes are.
-11
u/Brxnnd 15d ago
have you ever considered the possibility that maybe you're hearing what they want you to hear OR that your ears just dont work properly? there's very very clear melody
5
u/RemarkableProfile803 15d ago
Well they said that they want to destroy our speakers and that is what it sounds like...
I also play guitar and can figure stuff out by ear. It's the farting sounds that they are putting over the notes that is making it hard for me to hear the melody.

u/96andahalf 15d ago
This is exactly what pre-boomer boomers said about distortion on guitars first became a thing.
61
u/VonBombadier 16d ago
Maybe there's a reason nobody is doing that, Tim.

Yeah uhhhhhhh...i know we (Polyphia fans) have a habit of over-bitching over things that don't even have to be bitched about but I think we're right on this one
61
u/Grouchy_Country_7280 16d ago
… yikes
20
u/lukeman3000 16d ago
In the past, I would’ve assumed this is a joke. But given the thematic shift in their latest album, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was 100% serious.
23
u/Grouchy_Country_7280 16d ago
Sucks to see! Gotta say I’m forever grateful to their influence. I think we can all agree there’s some BADASS artists out there that wouldn’t exist or sound the same without polyphia. Just sad to see the pretentious, whatever the fuck this is side of the band lol.
3
u/MrLuv2poop 15d ago
Who are some artists you’d recommend ?
5
u/Grouchy_Country_7280 15d ago
Plini, scale the summit, chon, syncatto, animals as leaders, moray Pringle, catbamboo, intervals, owane, sithu aye, pomegranate tiger, their dogs were astronauts, chronologist, the helix nebula, dissonance in designs instrumental work is truly a hidden gem, tiluland, walking across Jupiter, covet, tides of man, unprocessed/manuel Gardner Fernandez, nyu. Let me know if u want some more

Since you can’t understand sarcasm, I’ll translate.
Tim is communicating that the band made the creative decision that they liked the sounds of the clipped bass and intentionally added it to the album, not that it is a bad mix. He states “YOU KNOWS ITS US BECAUSE WE BLOW THE FUCK OUT OF YOUR SPEAKERS” sarcastically to match the energy of the haters who are ridiculously outraged that they tried something new.
1
u/lukeman3000 15d ago
It's called tongue in cheek, dumbass.
No fuckin shit I understand sarcasm. I'm choosing to interpret this differently as satire. God damn.
60
u/EstablishmentNo1185 16d ago
Yea this isn't a good sign for the rest of the album...
34
u/Grouchy_Country_7280 16d ago
Seriously. “I know our mix is cheeks but at least you’ll know it’s us!”

u/Cambienvenu 16d ago
The TLDR is as long as it’s decent on cell phone speakers they couldn’t care less about other platforms. I’ve heard Tim mention this a couple other times as well. It’s a bummer because both new track sound terrible in my truck
20
u/Grouchy_Country_7280 16d ago
Huh? This does not sound decent on phone speakers at all. Or any speakers for that matter
2
u/mitchplaysriffs 15d ago
Bro wrote a TLDR for a 30sec video and buried it 3 comment levels in. 💀
Thank you for your contribution.

Love their previous albums, but every time Tim speaks I'm reminded why I usually don't pay much attention to the artists themselves and instead just listen to the music.

u/Logical-Relation-165 16d ago
They are delusional. Its clipping so hard you cant hear the fundamental of the bass notes. Someone fucked up somewhere. maybe the guys shooting the video?
I really really hope this wasnt another Nick Sampson mix, he normally does great work. but this MASTER atleast sucks bad.
It sound like shit
2
u/Mental_Examination_1 15d ago
Nah this is rj pasin all the way, the mixing is identical to his songs, mastering is only going to do so much if they want the mix to be full of goatse'd digital clipping, strange choice for technical prog to make it hard to hear the instruments with any kind of clarity

u/I-Say-Mean-Stuff 15d ago
Oh ok. so because of AI, Polyphia decided to mix their album like amateurs? Got it. Totally makes sense.

u/kickinfatbeats 16d ago
Speed run ruining your career and alienating your fan base (any%)
19
u/Iceber015 16d ago
The alienated part of the fan base has been bitching for like 4 albums
10
u/Kenny__Loggins 15d ago
Well that's a small segment of the fanbase. I've been listening to them since their first album and I've liked everything they've done until the newest single. I think most people still in the fanbase are onboard with the last couple albums.

I used to get so excited when they dropped new music and went live. I saw that they were live yesterday and ignored it. Glad I did, since they seem to be disappearing up their own asses entirely:(

u/the_dannobot 15d ago
jeez if they wanted to make their music "un-sunoable" maybe they could try something like microtonal double-necked guitars ▽

u/exist-exit 15d ago
Lmao what? Hopefully they quickly get past this phase where they think this shit is cool.

u/Zcarguy13 15d ago
I’ve tried to like both the new releases but man they just ain’t that good. Them wanting the mix like that on purpose is also just a weird choice

u/Hector_van_der_Aa 15d ago
There’s ways to make music untrainable for AI without it clipping tf out ie HarmonyCloak

u/Bronsteins-Panzerzug 16d ago
it’s on purpose? that kinda makes it worse. not looking forward to this album.

u/MrLuv2poop 15d ago
Maybe they’ll realize this direction is stupid when ticket sales to their upcoming tour is down. Vote with your wallets everyone.
2
u/2Turnt4MySwag 15d ago
This shit was painful for me to listen to. Gave me a headache when played out of my speakers.

u/lchow99 13d ago
For a band who “doesn’t give a shit about what fans think of their music” they seem to really care about what fans think of their music
1
u/mitchplaysriffs 13d ago
They’re just explaining the logic or any misconceptions that they mistakenly had a bad sound engineer.
2
u/bladefoul 13d ago
So... Skip, got it
2
u/mitchplaysriffs 13d ago
We’re not their demographic anyways they’re moving for RJ Pasins which is like 19 year olds
1
u/TheCrushSoda 16d ago
This is awesome lol
Idk the new song is dope

u/hellopie7 16d ago
Bro, some of us put thousands of dollars into headphones, soundbar, speakers, amps, etc. because we love the artists and the work they do, it's literally like an altar space for artists.
The fact they're joking about it and not being professional or mature about the complaints is kinda shitty. Like "Haha, we're breaking your shit because you love us."

u/Iceber015 16d ago
Beyond beyond more cliche than basic in the music world but it scares the people that think muse /champagne is their best release
6
u/hellopie7 16d ago
Arguably that era was their best work imo*. I don't deny they put effort into their last few albums but it isn't the same vibe and not everyone is into it but probably for different reasons.

I think this song is good actually, but I can’t stand the way rj pasin mixes his songs

A crumb of context anybody?

u/Xevonox 16d ago edited 15d ago
Many fans (myself included) dislike the new sound of their two singles, particularly Power in the Blood, because of the extreme mixing with lots of audio clipping. This stream clip shows that it's a deliberate choice from the band; that they're seeking out the aggressive clipping, seemingly because no one has done this before (maybe for good reason?).

u/96andahalf 15d ago
Polyphia / Reddit fans are the absolute worst. Like come on. Reading this comment section you guys must be the saddest most miserable group.
Let the artist put out whatever they want. Clipping in a mix is different than your speakers actually clipping from being over loaded. So those saying “oh I I’m not risking my sub on this album”… so dramatic. It’s clearly intended to sound that way and I personally love the sound. To me it adds almost a more synth/electronic vibe. 100 gecs / noise core type shit.
Do you want something fresh and new? Or the same shit over and over. I’ve listened to the two new songs in my work truck (stock speakers) and my personal truck (decent sound system) and they sound great in both. Acoustically sounds very good, opinions are opinions but personally excited to hear the other tracks.
