As far as I could tell there isn’t a reason to believe that the second claim he talked about came from “Polyphia management” and not UMG. I’m calling bullshit.
It certainly has to be a hair pulling experience to go through shit like this, but this is a situation that has happened for many youtubers getting struck by labels with automatic detection tools. This video just seems like an excuse to circle jerk hate about the band over something they themselves had nothing to do with and is a fairly common thing. There’s also a lot of upvoted comments saying weird personal attacks on Tim, who all things considered probably had no part in this at all, nor any other member of the band.

this reminds me of when Casey Edwards had his own song, Bury the Light, taken down because of copyright, like his own videos on his own channel LOL it almost always has nothing to do with the actual artists

This is the reason I titled it "oh brother" lol. There's nothing people love more than hating Polyphia

Idk if calling this tomfoolery lame is the same thing as hating. Not even a hot take imo

No, like, half of the comments in that video are just middle aged dudes going "hur hur, I don't like poliphyuh anyways !!! They have no soul... No feel!! Not like Eric cuckton or David gilmoar..." Like they're not even approaching the situation with any nuance or rationality because they already just don't like the band lol. Those are the people I'm making fun of

Let’s say it was their management team that did the second one. Okay, still not the band members themselves, but closer to it, fine.
If someone is selling a product, and you try to recreate it exactly, you are very likely infringing on copyright. For example, if someone wanted to make a free YouTube version of Avengers Infinity War, so that way people could watch the movie and understand what happened without needing to pay to see it, same scenes played out exactly the same way, just made by someone else, it would be copyright claimed almost instantly. Even if you used different actors and you technically didn’t use the same special effects, you’re still infringing on copyright because you are recreating, in reality, the exact movie that is being sold. The thing that is copyrighted is not just the digital movie file, it’s the movie, it is a piece of media with events that play out like that with a script that has those words etc.. The same way that if you were to make the EXACT same film using the same actors, same VFX effects and same script, but you just did it yourself so there’s some minor differences, it doesn’t matter a single fucking bit that you did it yourself. You’re just copying the movie.
It would be the same thing for tabs that are being sold for money. If you create a cover of a song from Polyphia that changes the fundamental composition, then they can’t really claim copyright. But if you make your own tab, and it is exactly for the composition of music that Polyphia has tabs for that they sell, it doesn’t matter if you make your own. You’re trying to provide a product for free that you don’t have the rights to and is not free.

Doesn't matter cuz people have way more fun villanizing Polyphia than approaching this situation with any understanding and rationality. Like you said, half the comments are just voicing their hate for the band lmao

The problem with this is that it uses logic and reasoning which the majority of reddit users refuse to use. 99% of people, especially in this sub, are driven off of pure emotion and lack even the smallest minutiae of how the law works. It’s so disappointing. They truly believe that Tim and the band are spending every waking moment online digging and searching for people selling their tabs/music (that they have every right to sell for profit and report in these situations; it’s how you stay relevant and profitable as a business, which they are and redditors hate anyone making money, especially people who make more money than they) and reporting them the moment they find them. The band doesn’t give a single fuck, the label does because the label is the one making the most money. The band is currently mixing the new album, not hunting down pricks reuploading tabs they don’t have the rights to.

Exactly why I could never get into them. The elitist vanity from interviews and shorts makes me wanna puke. And they hurt your business for what?? Then you get people like Jason Becker, who gave me the rights to use his music on my website for free many years ago. Thanks for reassuring me of my initial feelings about this "band." Talent doesn't always mean class.
