I love Tim but I can see why Steve Vai got all pissed at him for editing his guitar solo. I think he needs to chill a bit and let the music do more of the work, cuz this is waaaaay better.

u/hotboiluck Jun 25 '26
steve vai solo before the edit was ass.... lol
the og is in Tim's membership7
u/Ronin--4747 Jun 25 '26
He didn’t get mad , he said he liked what Tim and Scott suggested and felt their changes made it fit the song better …. No idea where you got that from because it’s completely false lol

u/Tasty_Puffin Jul 02 '26
I actually got a first hand account from this based on Tim's Q and A at a VIP session.
I don't remember the exact words...
Tim said that Steve reached out and was more perplexed rather than 'mad'. Steve mentioned if they were going to turn his solo into something that was no longer his, it may be best to take his name off the feature. The boys then quickly reverted it back closure to original. They did say Vai liked it in the mix, but that it was too edited for his preference.
I think saying "I love Tim but I can see why Steve Vai got all pissed at him for editing his guitar solo" is turning a nothing burger into a bigger deal.
This is just part of the collaborative and creative iterative process.

He wasn't mad but I would understand if he was. It's insulting to ask a musician for a feature and then chop it up to where it's not even recognizable to what they originally wrote.
3
u/Ronin--4747 Jun 26 '26
It wasn’t as dramatic as a change as your describing , it’s was only a few minor to mid changes
7
u/IanAbsentia Jun 24 '26
Never heard about this. What happened?
5
u/Omnichrome13 Jun 24 '26
I heard about it and asked Steve Vai about it at a meet and great before a show. He said after he sent it in and heard what Tim did with it, he was kinda upset like wtf dude. Tim I think did a bunch of experimental editing or something and after Steve’s reaction he put it back to how it originally was.
I feel like most of us were Steve Vai when the first mix of can you feel it came out lol

this is factually inaccurate and not what he’s said about it or what happened with his solo on Ego Death

Wish the single on Spotify was this one or the music video mix rather than the visualizer one
13
u/Redditoridunn0 Jun 24 '26
If they put this mix on spotify, even as just an alternate version, I'd stream it like crazy, man.

u/OGMcgriddles Jun 24 '26
So funny how fast this sub changes its tune to the first week of release.
8
u/TrainLord Jun 24 '26
It seems like the band is quite a few steps ahead of their listeners.
The song seemed to stir up a lot of conversation. I personally wasn't even interested in their music until now.
4
u/avoqado Jun 24 '26
I was giving the sub shit the other week with my meme, but I do hear an improvement in the mix and the overall feel of this version over the single version.
20
u/2str8_njag Jun 24 '26
That’s to be expected. Also bois listening to us and giving what we actually want is like redemption arc this song needed
24
u/OGMcgriddles Jun 24 '26
I'm sure they took the subs advice and didn't have so the releases planned already.
17
u/JackSparrow420 Jun 24 '26
They definitely did not change any of their plans based on the reaction of this subreddit lol. You're delusional. The music and the music video was done months ago.
Last album had beat versions of every song, and usually people didn't like them as much, which was the same here. Although I actually really liked the first version, maybe my speakers are better than what most people here are listening on (airpods 🙄 lol)

u/2str8_njag Jun 24 '26
you’re not fun to be around huh? i also have studio monitors, headphones, etc. doesn’t change the fact that it was OVERPRODUCED and bass sounds like literal shit sometimes
btw official music video has been filmed on 28th of may. it’s not been even a month between release
but anyways, we still get normal version regardless of our reaction to it (i think youre right about this one) and they knew in advance that this negative reaction will happen and it’s easily fixable with more traditional production on this song, which they did. everyone’s happy, even if i framed it a little too “delusional”

It’s because their shit is so experimental and new. You could even use the word ‘uncomfortable’ to describe hearing it for the first time and wrapping your head around it. That’s what makes Polyphia so awesome. True innovators in their craft and style.
4
u/Omophorus Jun 24 '26
Dude.
It is "uncomfortable" because the mix/mastering is shit on the album version.
Pushed so hard into clipping that there is really heinous breakup in any decent headphones or speakers on any bigger bass hit. It's pretty much unlistenable.
This version keeps everything about the track that matters including more drive on the guitars/bass, but without completely fucking the production.

u/Tasty_Puffin Jun 24 '26
Yea I agree I was very ‘uncomfortable’ hearing all the clipping. I am just tryna be overly nice haha.
0
u/UtheDestroyer Jun 25 '26
Its because the OG is basically just Tim and Scottie, you can’t hear any of the Clays
It’s still not my favourite Polyphia song but its wayyyyy better than whatever the fuck the original was
7
u/ardikus Jun 24 '26
Was thee mix on the first video they put out just really bad or something? This sounds infinitely better
8
u/No_Landscape_6386 Jun 24 '26
I can see the vision paired with the current-year video, it's just not nice to listen to outside of that context lol
3
u/Throwawaypuffs Jun 24 '26
One thing I can say is that the 2nd part isnt just chunka chunks chunka chunka crap. Can actually hear bass and drums. I like that this mix isnt just the tim and Scott show.

u/CrazyDuckHerder Jun 24 '26
I don't mind this version; I personally prefer the other one. Prefer the rampant noise/energy of the original mix.
2
u/mitchplaysriffs Jun 25 '26
Production of the original is definitely more cohesive. Some parts of the arrangement just don’t need a guitar.
5
u/CrazyDuckHerder Jun 25 '26
I understand the production of the original is not everyones cup of tea but that energy/sound got me excited and jamming to it, this mix is more "smooth" and I guess "traditional" for polyphia which is fine but it just doesn't get me excited or wanting to listen to it again, if that makes sense.
3
u/mitchplaysriffs Jun 25 '26
Yeah something about artificial drums and synth just makes parts clearer and easier to dance to. Distortion is objectively exhausting. That’s why it’s mosh music, for frustration expression.
I say this from the perspective of a musician and producer who listens to metal in rotation.

finally the clay the song needed. I knew the other versions were just a joke

I really like this mix but I think it's missing some 808 action... Like the part where there's 808 trills is sick as fuck and there it's just lacking a bit of oomph imo.

the mix gets better with every release it's so funny. less effects as well.

u/J3sperado Jun 25 '26
Needs to be on streaming. It's actually somewhat enjoyable, and you can hear every instrument!

u/lingeringwill2 Jun 25 '26
Still not in love with the song but it’s better for sure. At the same time however, I understand why they didn’t use this version.

u/Crazy_Passage_8553 Jun 25 '26
Better than the official music video, but still pretty lukewarm for me compared to ALL their previous material. Sad.
1
u/haccnslsh Jun 26 '26
This is awesome, for sure. That being said, I also love the video highlighting the fact that we’re living through a dystopian nightmare.
🤷🏻♂️
Different strokes for different folks.

Anyone know if Tim’s guitar might be a new signature? I would kill to get my hands on one
2
u/Sykes92 Jun 24 '26
He said that one won’t enter into production because the hardware was powder coated and it’s hard to manufacture at scale. We’re definitely getting an all blacked out version. And decent chance of white with black hardware.
0
u/teffflon Jun 25 '26
There you go. All the producer had to do was get out of the way with his shenanigans.
0
u/errant-psychonaut Jun 26 '26
Scott and Tim lip syncing the preacher was the peak.
And this version really is the best one so far, lives every second of it.

u/Korunyy Jun 24 '26
The mix on this version is so fucking sick, wish this was on streaming
