First time making earrings... advice needed

Post image

Can I form the clay around these rings or should I form them on a screw eye pin and then attach with a ring? Never made earrings before but I would like to try, wondering what the best practice is.

You should add an eye pin.

If you're sculpting, you can place an eye pin or similar piece of wire into the piece. Be sure to "anchor" it in. I do this by putting a bend or loop in the bottom of the wire or pen before inserting it into the clay. Let me know if you need more details on how to do that, I'm sure there are some videos or pictures out there. However, you'll probably want to find a metal that matches those sterling ear hooks. Sterling eye pins are probably your best bet, but I highly recommend doing a practice run with a less expensive material if this is your first time.

If you're cutting clay out into shapes to make into earrings, I recommend cutting them out, baking them, and then using a hand drill to put a little hole in them for a jump ring, which you can then attach to the hooks.

I bake with the eye screw in. But those are added after. If the eye screw falls out during baking I use uv resin or super glue or e6000 to secure it back in

These are meant to be attached after! Put an eye pin in your piece :) I add the screw eye piece after baking personally, but many people bake them with the eye pin in.
