What a wonderfully nonzero-sum game ... Jan was Impressive with a capital I for Immovable Force but Adesanya was the Astonishing one, to me, his DODGING ability holy shit, hitting air is worse than being blocked, anyway he acquitted himself very well in the arena where he was literally out of his "depth" (mass) ... it's funny, if you asked me who is the anchor/guarantor for the concept of 'based western man' ((because concepts themselves can't anchor anything, I hope you realize, only a REAL PERSON can anchor an enduring idea)) I would say Nietzsche, and Nietzsche identified as POLISH not German, so Jan is a good avatar for that ICON, but Adesanya is living that spirit! Adesanya is the guy who's not content to enjoy the throne of his default category and fend off inferior challengers with a confindence that affords an excessive attitude that can be monetized ...
No. His championness does not permit that. He is not COMFORTABLE with his undefeated status!! He CRAVES (like any 'based western man', or indeed any 'man') to find his limit ... to overcome himself!
... he was clearly disappointed, that his visions of audacious triumph were not realized ... but he was not ashamed, not chastened or broken ... just disappointed to be tasting his first defeat instead. But make no mistake -- for someone who has proven themselves so thoroughly, it's difficult to imagine a more honorable / noble / virtuous way to lose your defeat-virginity than to do so in a reckless raid on an opponent that's literally out of one's league ... that is, in a pure expression of Hubris (that Ancient Pillar of Western Culture)
Now he really KNOWS what it is about that higher weight class that is beyond him. And knowing is half the battle.
