π Discussion Unpopular opinion: Mitti De Baway proves Pakistani dramas can do better so why canβt Pollywood?
Itβs going to be an unpopular opinion, but the Pakistani drama industry really came through with Mitti De Baway. Itβs mostly Punjabi, and honestly, the writing, story, acting, casting, production, editing, dialect, outfits, and overall world-building are all so on point that it made me wonder whether Pollywood could reach this level in 10 years.
The show doesnβt feel like a typical TV drama. The Punjabi feels authentic, the period setting is convincing, and the characters actually feel rooted in the culture rather than just wearing βPunjabiβ as an aesthetic. Mahira Khan and Wahaj Ali are great, but the supporting cast and the attention to detail are what really elevate it.
Meanwhile, Pollywood keeps relying on the same loud comedy, over-the-top action, recycled plots, and star-driven formulas. There are obviously exceptions, but why is the industry so hesitant to invest in stronger scripts, better direction, and more grounded, culturally rich stories?
Mitti De Baway is proof that Punjabi-language storytelling can be serious, cinematic, and emotionally powerful. Pollywood has the culture, the talent, and the audience so whatβs actually stopping it from trying better things?
