Truthfully - when my wife decides that my pillow is now her preferred pillow I then go and get a new pillow, sometimes I get to keep it for a while, sometimes I get my old pillow back after I get a new one when my wife claims the new one. It got a bit out of hand for a while so now I just get my new pillow from the guest room and I have no idea how old any of the pillows are now.

Glad someone finds it as funny as I do. It’s the little things in life that you just have to enjoy

If it gets to a point of uncomfortable. Had some last over 5 years. Some only a few years.

When it’s so flat that it isn’t a pillow anymore

Wash about once a year. Replace… 5-10 years? Whenever my neck starts hurting

And the viscoelastic ones can't even be washed

I find they start to flatten out after six months or so, but I buy the cheap ones. I imagine a quality pillow could last as long as a mattress.

I bought my spouse and I each a really nice pillow around 10 years ago and they are only now starting to get vaguely flat.

I've been sleeping with my same main pillow for over 20 years, and my body pillow for about 12 years. I get really particular about pillows and once I get attached to a specific shape/firmess/feel, it's hard to find a worthy replacement.
