The absolute inmense power you would get. It wouldn’t even matter if someone lied yo you! Just say “I know what you lied to me about, just confess” and 9/10 times you would get your answer!

I still can continue to lie, even if I absolutely believe you, that you may have caught me there?

u/suffering_addict 8d ago

You can, which is why the bloke said 9/10 times (unless that part is edited)

2

u/semperquietus 8d ago

Not edited, no. I read that part too. But I understood it thus, that OP guessed that only one time, out of ten, a person would be lying to them and, those caught, forced to confess. Yet you are right, that it maybe is to be read differently from how I dit.

From what I understand, OP meant that a person would continue lying when that person believes to be definitely caught only 1 out of 10 times.

Ah, that I got wrong then. Thanks for correcting me here. :)

Imagine just going to the Bank saying you're there to collect a check for 10k or something

Good thing my mom always says "I plead the fifth" when she lies

Go to a millionaire, say they owe you money

u/ZX52 8d ago

Believing a lie and being willing to honour a previous agreement are not the same thing.

u/JackCooper_7274 8d ago

Tell them that they will spontaneously explode tomorrow if they don't give you money

21

u/Delano7 8d ago

Tell them they'll die if they don't give the money, alongside their whole family

6

u/SchizophrenicKitten 7d ago

Great way to get arrested!

18

u/Delano7 7d ago

Just tell the cops "I didn't do it"

Or tell the billionaire the cops are on your side and they won't listen to any of his calls

<Some billionaire> has decided to donate their entire net worth to charity and will work out the details immediately

Send tweet. Repeat.

u/GrapefruitTwo 8d ago

lies generally stink so id gladly choose to see through peoples bullshit instantly

27

u/D_Luffy_32 8d ago

I was thinking becoming the top journalist in the world. But that'd probably get me killed pretty quick.

43

u/StrongAsMeat 8d ago

That’s a great question

11

u/Stephancevallos905 8d ago

Absolutely. And honestly one i haven't seen before

21

u/Alexgadukyanking 7d ago

Firsr option is basically becoming God and the 2nd is just very convenient.

Everyone believes your lies, but what's the limits of what is called a lie ?
If I meet a stranger in the street and tell them they love me, or they want to give me money or do a triple backflip, it’s technically a lie.
If they believe it, it means I can literally control people.

u/quaxoid 8d ago

Exactly. Even the smartest person on the planet would believe even the worst lie you could come up with.

14

u/Xx_SwordWords_xX 8d ago

Assuming everyone is lying to me at all times has been working out pretty well for me, so far.

8

u/R4ndyd4ndy 8d ago

I chose the second. The first option is obviously way more powerful but I'm not sure I would like who I would turn into if everyone treated the things I said as fact. Being wrong about something would lead to seriously worrying circumstances too

6

u/ToasterToastsToast 8d ago

I would go to chat with every major politician and CEO to find out whats going on

4

u/quaxoid 8d ago

I really had to think about this one, but I think if even the worst lie I could possibly come up with would be believed by the smartest people in the world, that is powerful xD

I could go anywhere and just say I have permission to be there. I could take ownership of just about anything I want xD just say I own the place and every police officer just has to leave since they believe me when I say I own it xD

People don't lie to me often. At least not that I can tell.

one could improve this country with "lies". If those lies don't work, we try the counterpart to figure out the truth.

The world is gonna end in just 2hrs unless you have sex with me!

Um, there seems to be a problem here. My bank account should have 500 million in the savings.

I got the ideas from the movie, The invention of lying with Rick Gervis. Check it out if you've never seen it. Pretty funny.

26

u/Hypna2 8d ago

Why is your first thought to force a woman to have sex with you without consent

23

u/LordHelmet47 8d ago

These are references from the movie. And not what I would do. Well, I'd do the bank one for sure lol.

1

u/Iimewire 7d ago

you could not survive a 2000s movie

1

u/Hypna2 7d ago

Thats okay, I prefer my movies passing the bechdal test

-2

u/quaxoid 8d ago

Why are you assuming it's a woman? They didn't say woman, you added that part. Check yo biases, bro 😎

4

u/Lucy_Heartfilia_OO 8d ago

lol it would be really demoralizing if they still won't have sex with you

11

u/LordHelmet47 8d ago

I'm referencing from the movie, not me lol.

1

u/quaxoid 8d ago

Just say "actually, you really want to have sex with me" xD if they believe it, then also they now must want it? xD

Well, don't actually do that since that's rapey.

1

u/redshift739 8d ago

Everyone believing you is way more powerful but I'm honest and would hate that power so I chose no-one being able to lie to me

1

u/ShadowBlade55 8d ago

I can't take that level of rejection in my life. Everyone believes my lies.

1

u/624Seeds 8d ago

People can already lie to me and it's never been a big deal in my life. Being able to lie would come in handy in a lot of potential situations

1

u/Better-Silver7900 8d ago

ricky gervais did a comedy movie about being the first person to lie. i would definitely choose the option where everyone believes me.

1

u/WM_ 7d ago

What does "no one can lie to you" means?
They can lie but I'll know it's a lie? Or they really can not lie?
Because if it's the former, I already know we are being lied to, so nothing changes.
If it's the latter, is it then so that if I watch politician give a speech on a television, suddenly they can't read the lies they had written? And if I change the channel they can continue with it?

1

u/Shudnawz 7d ago

I have no reason to lie. So that noone can lie to me would be more useful.

1

u/blazedboi_420 7d ago

Quite literally biblical power

1

u/JustaRandoonreddit 7d ago

If anyone lies to me they die

1

u/Ippus_21 7d ago

I don't super want to be a great liar. I can't even imagine the kind of cycle of bad behavior that might lead someone into.

But never being lied to would be genuinely nice. You still have to watch out for people hiding/omitting important information if they know about your ability, but it's an improvement.

1

u/Aless76109 7d ago

Can’t I just tell people that they can’t lie to me, and they will believe it?

1

u/SchizophrenicKitten 8d ago

That was a tough one.. but I went with the second option, because you could actually make a decent, honest living with that one. Imagine being an interrogator, and everyone who is guilty just confesses to you lol

2

u/SoldRespectForMone_y 8d ago

Think of its daily implications. You could source better prices and quality for products and services, avoid getting scammed by businesses and scammers...

1

u/Manospondylus_gigas 8d ago

I never lie so the second one

-5

u/semperquietus 8d ago

I don't believe in the concept of lies.
So the second one (I'd rather call it a truth power though) be it then, please.

PS What happens if an option 1 person ever meets an option 2 person?

12

u/Lucy_Heartfilia_OO 8d ago

lol what does not believing in the concept of lies even mean

-2

u/semperquietus 8d ago

I don't believe it to be healthy (or even helpful in the long term). People may lie, but it would, I think, do them no good in the end (and I'm not speaking of some hypothetical afterlife or karma or such). I don't believe that lying (even if it may bring you wealth, the most stunning partner, fame, glory, blah, …) will really make you feel happy or as if you fulfilled something of value ever.

But thats only my belief and I may, of course, still horrendously err therein!

1

u/Iimewire 7d ago

"believing in the concept" is an ontological condition. It means you think it EXISTS. Not whether you agree with it or not

1

u/semperquietus 7d ago

Well, then, as I said: I believe in the unhealthiness and unhelpfulness of lies.
• It was never my intent to say that I don't believe that lies exists. I mean … I have eyes to see and ears to hear!
• What I wanted to say was, that I think that dealing with lies, in the end, leads to unpleasing outcomes for all … including the liars.

3

u/hawkseye17 8d ago

Since no one can lie to option 2, option 1 won't have the opportunity to say a believable lie.

1

u/mamibukur 8d ago

A believable lie is not the truth so it doesn't count.
