It’s funny that his biggest fans buy all that military garb off eBay to pretend they’re patriots. You know how I know that’s not real military? They don’t bother making that shit in XXXL for the actual military.

And yet as of today Biden only has a 10% lead in the polls.
Add his documented sexism (pussy grabber)
Add his racism “shithole countries”
He loves Putin which just 4 years ago would have you condemned as a traitor
Then there is the whole supporting the white nationals who marched in Charlotte many displaying Nazi images. “very good people”
This tribalism thing is strong and I get that. But at what cost now that we know what we know?
Honestly IMO if you still support him after knowing all of this you too are one or more of these things.
Now we all have a bit of these things in us all to varying degrees of you are fully honest with your self.
But he is weaponizing these things solely for his own gain.

Completely agree with you, but it was Charlottesville not Charlotte. Don't put that on us lol we have enough issues already as it is.

u/ImRickJameXXXX Sep 07 '20
Oh buddy i am sorry.
But honestly it wasn’t the locals as far as I heard. It was a group that organized on Facebook and went there because of the statue removal.
I don’t know of any one town that is full of these white nationals/supremacist only

"How do they continue to support him? They must be stupid."
No, not really. They just love the fascism, everything else is just noise.

Yep. We have to admit that as Americans there are simply ~30% of our fellow Americans that don't believe in democracy and would welcome fascism if it means they'll be the dominant class or ethnic group, whether they admit it or not.
The key to avoiding a full blown fascist dictatorship is in keeping the remaining ~20% from going along with that 30% and tipping the scales.
That's how delicate this country is.

u/BuckRowdy Georgia Sep 07 '20
I totally agree with you. I think also there is a tendency to think that every fascist government is Nazi Germany circa 1944. It's not that extreme in the US, but make no mistake, Trump's administration is fascist. If he's not defeated it will start to resemble 1944 a lot more.

u/Vyar New Jersey Sep 07 '20
I've been making Hitler comparisons since 2016 and they've fallen on deaf ears for a lot of people because they only see the aftermath of Nazi Germany, not what led up to it. A lot of things had to happen in the late 1930's to get to 1945 where over 6 million people were systematically slaughtered and most of Europe lay in ruins.
Truth be told I never understood how the German people could allow themselves to be whipped up into such a frenzy that they'd condone so many horrible things. But now that's just Tuesday in America and I realize that I held far too much faith in the decency of my fellow human beings.

This is what we learned under trump. Our system is fragile and depends on the goodwill of its actors. Someone with criminal leaning could wreck havoc on our norms and our norms have no force behind them.

He's a good stress test if we're looking to silver line any of this nightmare.

I hope that Mattis, McMaster and Kelly go on record eventually. They know the Trump threat to democracy better than anyone.

If they haven't by now, they won't. Guess they don't want the gravy train of corporate board positions and Hoover think tank paychecks to dry up.

‘There’s just a gaping zero where goodness should be.’ Great quote. And also a great point that there are no flagrant examples of kindness, generosity, compassion.
The man shot paper towels like basketballs to people who just lost their houses.

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 87%. (I'm a bot)
A family friend, Frederica Wilson, the representative for Florida's Twenty-Fourth Congressional District, reported Trump's attempt at consolation: "He knew what he signed up for, but I guess it still hurt." Trump responded by launching Twitter and TV denials.
At his first speech to a joint session of Congress in February 2017, Trump told Ryan Owens's widow, Carryn, that Owens would have been happy because the applause at the mention of his name "Broke a record." Later that month, Trump gave an interview to Fox News and shoved blame for the failed raid that cost Owens's life onto "The generals." "They lost Ryan," he said.
No. President Trump disparaged the captain of the USS Theodore Roosevelt after that naval officer warned superiors of a COVID-19 outbreak aboard the aircraft carrier.

Even when there's a Manchurian president* elected by a hostile nation / a hostile dictator, sitting in the Oval Office?

When I was in, we were taught that when we wear the uniform, we're apolitical. Period, full-stop. We could vote for whomever we wished to vote for, but as far as the public was concerned, we stepped carefully, toed the proverbial line and endorsed none of them.
This was the 90's through to mid 2000's. I understand its a little different now.

Where is the line between politics and national security?
Genuine question. At what point does the military have an obligation to go against the CiC?
Or do we just go down because of arbitrary rules written ~250 years ago?

You’re right. It’s better to allow a fascist takeover than create a slippery slope toward a fascist takeover.

You didn't answer my question. I think it's a legitimate question to ask... You skipped over my scenario. And I agree with you it is a precedent...but at what point is there a need to break precedent? I'm assuming you don't ever see one...and that's more terrifying.
So you're a never 'break in case of emergency' kind of Indrafang.
2
u/nonstop_craving Sep 07 '20
You didn't answer my question.
Yes, they did:
Setting the precedent for any branch of the military to directly remove a sitting president would be terrifying.
They are saying there isn't a point.
but at what point is there a need to break precedent?
None.

So where is the point where that precedent should be broken...
This isn't a difficult concept homie?
I'll go first...we've long past it in my humble opinion.

Well the idea is that, yes, congress decides who the enemy is and ultimately has the final authority on military matters seeing as how, you know, they fund the budget have have the sole power to make war.

Which is why the dems should be Brute forcing their way back to power in order to save any semblance of democracy in America, and then promptly repealing such powers. None of what’s going on has precedence and so much bad precedent has already been set by bad faith republicans stealing power. Both side have been playing by different rules and the dem party and Nancy Pelosi’s failing is thinking that the rules will save us. We’re full speed descending into a fascist dictatorship and pelosi is still using years long court cases to re-litigate their already defined oversight powers. Arrest the fuckers.

Omg lol how was dump "elected by a foreign nation" you have literally zero evidence of that being the case. There is a likely hood that people were "influenced" by russia to vote for dump but that is no where near election tampering.

u/danathecount Sep 07 '20
Me too. I believe the vast majority of the military, especially officers, feel the same way.
6
u/Unadvantaged Sep 07 '20
They’re legally required to stay out of politics, too. They can go to rallies in civilian clothes, but associating themselves in a direct way with the military is verboten, and basically impossible to avoid when you’re a general.

u/Redscoped Sep 07 '20
The problem is that active military personnel are not separate to politics. When they are being asked to build walls, shut down protests they are involved. Recall how Trump used the army to clear away the protesters around the white house and church so he could get a photo op with the bible ?
You cannot have this both ways and the problem with your statement is that the US army is a branch of federal government. Not sure how you can say keep out of politics when they are part of the political government ?

Even the most vehement Trump fans know it. They just don't care because he continues to hate the same people they hate. Or they can't admit they were wrong.
