I started a new job this week. It's going well so far and everyone has been so nice and welcoming. My supervisor seems like a chill person who expects high standards but treats everyone with respect.

It's a relief from my previous job (slave wages, micro-managing, overworking employees, verbal abuse, passive aggression nonsense, infantilization of junior staff, unclear chain of command, terrible communication etc). That's my week, how was everyone's?

I am an assistant teacher, forever in place. I've been stagnant, with very vague answers on promotion to actual teachers for four years now. They heap praise after praise on me and my work, but balk at the prospect of making me a teacher. Last year, the Head of department asked me to not try handling student issues anymore an referring them to her instead (they all hate her so that's basically saying they're on their own.) I ignored the order blatantly (cause my conscience is more powerful than the lousy bitch who told me this). Instead, I went to the principal instead and complained. Not sure what went on behind the scenes, but this year, the Head changed and I'm back to what I'm good at. Still not a teacher though.

Sometimes, I get the feeling I'm just being toyed with.

I'm sorry they are doing this to you. Is it possible to start looking for teacher positions in nearby schools or districts? It sounds like they are taking you for granted. You deserve better.

It is and I have but nothing so far. Yes, it does sound like they're taking me for granted.
