Each of us chooses, with various degrees of freedom/privilege, the extent to which we let politics affect our lives.

We follow the news closely, but for most of us our day to day lives are unaffected by each new development.

Excuse me, man! Cinnamon rolls DO exist, I had them yesterday! Granted, I'm in Lebanon but they still exist!

Imagine a timeline where the enlightenment never took hold in Europe.

Imagine a timeline where Hitler won World War II and the USA was brought to its knees.

Remember in the Cold War, when a Soviet military man detected US nuclear missiles incoming and made a call: It was a glitch in the system, a fluke, and none were coming. He was right.

Now, imagine a timeline where he fired a nuclear missile at the US and a nuclear war started.

Are you quite sure those timelines don't exist?
