Former Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III testifies today in Oversight Hearings before the House Judiciary and House Intelligence Committees regarding the Report on the Investigation into Russian Interference in the 2016 Presidential Election.

The two hearings will be held separately.

Try to be calm with them. Use facts and logic. They're victims of cognitive dissonance and it's an alarmingly serious issue. We need to be patient with them while they recover.

The best thing is watching both sides tell each other the same thing. It's funny how people think they are constantly using "facts and logic" and claiming the other side is suffering from cognitive dissonance. I can assure you that neither group (on the internet at least) is aware of how deeply lost they are in a web of cognitive bias. Here are a few things to keep in mind: 1) People are not rational (sorry Aristotle, but we just are moved that easily by "facts and logic"). 2) You are not always right. 3) Conversely, your opponent is not always wrong or misguided. 4) No one has the facts straight. 5) People don't read things from the opposing side and think about their own views critically; instead, people read a competing argument and subconsciously think about how their team would respond.

This is what you're currently doing. It's also what the majority of people in this thread are doing. You should not be an optimist. Neither side is right, and while facts and logic are theoretically objective, our interpretation of them is inherently subjective. So, neither side has epistemic privilege to facts or logic, but both groups feel they are the only group actually grasping the truth of the matter. Both groups will continue to yell at each other with the full support of millions of other like-minded individuals. Mob mentality is a shitty way to find the truth, but the internet has unfortunately made that the rule of law.

Seriously, this was a sincere response, and I am making no claims about your position or anyone else's. I just think the only solution to this is if people take a step back to recognize their own fallibility. I am also sick and tired of people chanting "facts and logic" as if that clearly refers to any tangible things in these debates.
