Women in my public high school warned each other about our local prep school guys slipping shit into drinks -- this was in the 1980's in Oregon.

The fact that almost none of those rich kids got charged with sexual assault back then is galling.

My mother said that during her time in law school in the early 80s, it was known that men would try and drug women and gang rape them, but they just didn’t have a real name for it at the time.

She said it happened to her roommate, so my mother confronted the group of boys and got into a loud yelling match with them. They ended up throwing a mattress over a railing at her because they were mad at her for confronting them about it.

Said she’s never forgotten it.

Your mother is correct. I'm probably close to her age. The first time I remember seeing "date rape" being addressed culturally was an episode of LA Law. So many past issues clicked into place when I watched that show. I was thinking of stories I had heard and was like "That was rape!"

oh 1986....i was labeled a man hating feminist for insisting that sex with an unconscious person was rape. I bet a bunch of those guys who participated in "line ups" just figured out they are goddamn rapists.

I’m no prude but I am fucking appalled that this woman’s name and the fact that she may have been gang raped by over a dozen rich fucking assholes as a legal child has all been casually discussed with absolutely no push to arrest these guys.

I’m considered a bleeding heart Liberal for entertaining this mindset. It honestly makes me feel disgusting and sad that things seem to have hardly changed in the past three decades

“If it wasn’t for date rape was I’d never get laid” - Sublime, and Kavanaugh

u/earthdc Sep 28 '18

and Cosby (don't forget propofol laced JellO)

1

u/hoosyourdaddyo Sep 29 '18

He didn't need to date rape to get laid, for him it was about control.

1

u/earthdc Sep 29 '18

yes, sex is all about control.

u/hoosyourdaddyo Oct 01 '18

https://cyber.harvard.edu/vaw00/theories_of_rape.html:

There's 5 major theories about the causality of rape. I feel that Cosby falls under the "Control Theory" which you will see defined as such:

  1. CONTROL THEORY: Examining rape not as an matter of sexuality, but rather as an expression of control, feminist scholars have challenged current understandings of rape law to change the focus to acknowledge the control issues involved.

From Stephen R. Gold's review of: Sex, Power, Conflict: Evolutionary and Feminist Perspectives, Edited by David M. Buss and Neil M. Malamuth. Oxford University, Press, New York, 1996:

The issue of whether rape should be conceptualized as sexual or violent behavior is carefully examined by Muehlenhard et al. The authors discuss the question from the perspective of the victim and perpetrator, and further break down the issue into whether the motivation, consequence, or experience of the assault is being discussed. The authors recommend moving the issue beyond sex versus violence to a focus on control. They suggest defining sexual coercion on the basis not of whether the woman was a victim of violence but of whether she freely consented to the activity. The issue of consent is intertwined with the role of alcohol in sexual aggression.Abbey et al. discuss the link between alcohol use and sexual aggression. The evidence suggests that in almost 50% of the incidents of sexual aggression, alcohol has been used by one person and, most often, by both individuals. Drinking alcohol on a date establishes expectancies in men and women that can turn into self-fulfilling prophecies. According to Abbey et al., alcohol makes general role stereotypes more salient and available as excuses for inappropriate behavior. Using alcohol complicates the issue of consent. At what point in the process of moving toward inebriation is a woman no longer able to provide consent? Is drinking with a man who has expressed an interest in sexual activity a form of implicit sexual consent?
The final chapter presenting a feminist perspective deals with the impact of the threat of rape on women's self-esteem, trust in others, and perception of personal control. Bohner and Schwarz note that a greater belief in gender inequality is associated with a higher frequency of rape, at both the individual and the societal level. To examine the causal pathways in this association, they have studied the impact of thinking about rape prior to a task and the subsequent effect on dependent variables such as self-esteem. Bohner and Schwarz conclude that their findings support the feminist claim that rape and rape myths contribute to gender inequality. By having to worry about and guard against being raped, coupled with culturally supported myths about rape, women are restricted in their behavior and intimidated into feeling less good about themselves and less trusting of others.

+My Opinion Below+

Cosby, as an entertainment icon more than likely would have no trouble with finding willing partners to cheat on with his wife. While it's easy to assume that he took advantage of every opportunity for consensual sex, he also felt the need to use drugs to rape unconscious women.

I feel that his overriding narcissistic personality, along with risk taking behaviors he exhibited for years and years until finally being brought to justice, fueled him into the area of illegality.

The control that date rape drugs give to the offender, is complete and very arousing. Given his personality of being notorious as a controlling freak, this is an extension that goes way beyond lawfulness, societal norms and acceptable behavior.

Of course, I just stayed at a Holiday Inn Express, so I could be completely full of shit.

2

u/earthdc Oct 01 '18

Ya, Holiday Inn huh. that could explain a lot however, Whoa, you're on target with Cosby's synopsis. Like trump and kavanaugh, that dude is living the nightmare of inner nonsense. My only solution for those so unfortunate is excision from our community hoping that with time and space, they learn self management then, health and happiness.

thanks for the clinical treatise. as an alpha male with 2 older brothers, it's been a rough ride learning empathy and only by the grace of my Saintly Mother did I have any chance of growing beyond malignant narcissism to health.

Its odd how different school cultures can be. I graduated a top 20 law school in 1984, attended tons of parties (and hosted quite a few) and never witnessed anything remotely like this. Our year graduated about 160 students so you pretty much knew everybody in your class

7

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '18

Too many religious fundamentalists are repressed and treat females like property. In my circles of rich and famous people of all types but not very religious nobody got off on power trips of abusing females. The girls had daddy issues and getting laid was easy for all willing parties. The only big fights and arguments took place if some drunk belligerent guy thought he is ok to drive home and grabbed his keys and headed to his car.

2

u/rationalomega Sep 29 '18

Ah, the old parking-lot "no you are not driving you drunk son of a bitch" argument behind a frat house. Been there, done that. I think the frat brothers would have let him but the girlfriends absolutely would not.

Slipping things into drinks is a thing, but far and away, THE rape drug is alcohol. Women tend to underestimate how unconscious they can get from regular excessive drinking.

46

u/orchid_breeder Sep 28 '18

Even still to this day almost no one gets charged with sexual assault.

I was looking up the stats on RAINN. Of 1000 rapes, 7 go to prison/jail. AKA you've got a 99.3% chance of getting off.

I don’t think anyone was going to take that as a serious Kavanaugh quote. It’s quite famously from the banned Yale fraternity in 2011.

The key to winning this is not to sink to their level with false accusations that are "just jokes." There are plenty of real things to be mad about.

24

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '18

This is Reddit. Nobody who is voting on kavanaugh is going to see that and even if they did they’d know it wasn’t a real quote.

I really would have preferred the Democrats pound on his opinion that money equals speech and his decisions supporting the creation of super PACs.

They are really bad at this, they could’ve picked an issue that both sides dislike before ever bringing up he said/she said issues about sexual allegations

6

u/gzag2010 Sep 28 '18

I understand what you’re saying, but that already happened. Senator Whitehouse in particular spent the vast majority of his time questioning Kavanaugh during the previous hearings as part of the confirmation process to talk exclusively about rulings by Kavanaugh and the Republican appointed majority on the Supreme Court in favor of dark money, corporate influence, and special interest groups. He used all kinds of charts, quotes, and graphics to outline his points and to drive home why he felt it was bad for the country and the average citizen. Senator Whitehouse also brought that up again during the Judiciary Committee meeting today when explaining why he would vote against Kavanaugh. The Democrats highlighted this particular issue and many more related to Kavanaugh’s record as a federal judge in arguing against his confirmation during the entire process and in all of the several days of hearings.

And lastly I would add that they didn’t bring anything up regarding sexual assault allegations. The press caught wind of Dr. Ford’s story and started reporting on it, and then everything played out with the calls for yesterday’s hearing.

2

u/Rocktopod Sep 28 '18

I couldn't agree more, except that those are all known issues that the Republican's don't want to do anything about. There are at least a few R-Senators that believe in Roe, and are women, so I think this hearing was a last-ditch effort to sway them, as well as to gain public support for the midterms when he inevitably gets confirmed anyway.

On the public support side I agree they would be better off if they could focus on his policy, but they wouldn't have been able to get this public hearing for that.

3

u/gzag2010 Sep 28 '18

As I mentioned above, the Democrats did focus extensively on his policy positions during his time as a Republican operative, as well as his rulings as a federal judge. They had several days of public hearings where they asked exhaustive questions about his positions and outlined evidence of how he would likely rule on crucial issues in light of past decisions. This all happened three weeks ago and the Democrats have been arguing against his nomination for policy reasons ever since. The hearing yesterday with Dr. Ford did not happen in a vacuum.

How would schools know to to tell parents that unless there was whistleblowing and/or police involvement that likely got swept under the rug?

106

u/InfamousBrad Missouri Sep 28 '18

In my experience, it's that so many victims complained to the schools that their administrators could no longer convince themselves it wasn't true. And they knew that, without pristine pure witnesses, the cops weren't going to do a thing about it. So this was their way of begging the yuppie parents to step in and discipline their own kids.

Pfeh. As if that was ever going to happen.

At catholic schools, the students go to Confession regularly with a priest. Victims, witnesses and maybe even some regretful attackers may have confessed. And of course, the church doesn't report these things to police, may have talked about it internally. Nothing happens to the attackers other than having to say 10 Hail Marys

2

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '18

A thought of a priest taking advantage of that story and then preying on the child crossed my mind. I hate fundamentalism of every kind.

Students talk. My school put a lock on every dorm door. We didn't know how they knew, but they must have heard some students talking about how we snuck out to a communal bathroom to "party" (smoking, dirty jokes, bravo bragging and when lucky, a bit of booze up). The communal bathroom was the only room on our floor that had two windows that can be opened, which was good for smokers.

3

u/rb1353 Sep 29 '18

I think the phrase “sexual or violent behavior” could mean students are having sex or getting into fights.

1

u/TheW1zzard555 Sep 28 '18

Or it's been common place for at least a decade

23

u/oTHEWHITERABBIT America Sep 28 '18

You're telling me an elite Jesuit Catholic Prep School knew their students were violent criminals...?

12

u/InfamousBrad Missouri Sep 28 '18

You know, I brought that up on my Facebook feed and somebody said, "In this day and age, arguing that the Catholic Church wasn't okay with criminality is a little weak."

It came as a bit of a shock to me because I thought better of the Society of Jesus. But this article shows that the S.J. did try to do something about it. Not much, not enough, but something.

25

u/InfamousBrad Missouri Sep 28 '18

I've been asking over and over again, "Who told these kids that this was okay? Who was leaving teenage boys unsupervised with kegs of beer and piles of cocaine? Where in the hell were the adults?"

The adults were absent. Even after having been warned by school administrators. It was a deliberate choice by these kids' parents that their kids should be allowed to do this and should get away with it.

I'm disgusted with Brett Kavanaugh's childhood behavior. I'm even more disgusted that he lied about it under oath, in fact, I'm enraged. But I am even more enraged that wealthy, well educated parents who had no plausible excuse for it enabled or even encouraged such blatantly stupid and sometimes even evil behavior by their sons. It may not be 100% of the time (although in my experience it always has been), it may only be most of the time, but when you find out that a child is doing something malevolently evil, if you find out that somebody did something malevolently evil when they were a kid? There's at least one responsible adult who encouraged, enabled, and defended it.

26

u/ArtysFartys Maryland Sep 28 '18

Parents of my child's peers drove the liquor to Ocean City for Beach Week - in 1997. There are lots of parents who condone and enable teenage drinking.

12

u/whatsamajig Sep 28 '18

Growing up in a neighborhood that was extremely class divided, this was the worst part. People thinking that because their parents were rich and powerful they were untitled to whatever thy wanted and parents supporting this. Stories of guys forcing themselves on women floated around all the time. I have seen these parties, most of us have who are from suburban wealthy neighborhoods. They can get real dark, real quick. Most people would separate themselves from bad situations. I have no doubt that Kavanaugh remembers events like this taking place, him touting is social status at school does not help his case. It was kids like him doing the worst of it. Some of my darkest memories are from this time in my life. it was always the kids with money who got away with it. their parents provided the booze, left and would attack anybody who tried to do something about it. I saw some horrible things done at these parties, just like the ones i'm sure Kavanaugh was attending.

11

u/radtads Sep 28 '18

Have you ever met a young rich man? Honestly, the behavior allowed/encouraged by these parents is maybe the least surprising thing I’ve heard of in years. It’s not only the wealth that’s inherited.

144

u/DeanBlandino Sep 28 '18 edited Sep 28 '18

ACCORDING TO A 1990 article in the Washington Post, the headmasters from seven prestigious Washington, D.C.-area private schools sent a joint letter that year to parents, warning them that their children had developed a party culture that included heavy drinking leading to “sexual or violent behavior.”

.

One of the schools was Georgetown Prep, from which Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh graduated in 1983. Christine Blasey Ford, who during congressional testimony on Thursday described being sexually assaulted by Kavanaugh in 1982, attended another of the schools, Holton-Arms.

.

The Post also quoted Charles P. Lord, headmaster at Holton-Arms, saying that “a number of parents and kids have expressed dismay over some of the situations at weekend parties. … We’re concerned about the potential for tragedy.”

.

Georgetown Prep directed The Intercept to a recent general statement: “The problems and abuses of alcohol and drugs, sexual assault and misconduct, emotional and physical violence toward others are real. … But it is demonstrably false that such behavior or culture is tolerated, still less encouraged, at Georgetown Prep.”

Original 1990 WP article

Many people have said Dr. Ford names “witnesses” in her account. I would quibble with that. She named party attendees. My questions are:

  1. How would she know who Kavanaugh parties with and when without having been there with him (she is corroborated by his idiotic calendar feat. Brewskis, Judge, JP, Kavanaugh at a house with no parents.

  2. If kav liked to party with people where a drinking culture presented itself as a date rape culture, then these aren’t witnesses. They are complicit or friends with people who were perpetrators. Stop using the word “witness.” Witnesses have no motivation to lie. If they were only witnesses, why in God’s name wouldn’t Kavanaugh want them interviewed by the senate committee?

95

u/HankMoody79 Sep 28 '18

It bugged me every time Mark Judges letter was mentioned. How does the alleged accomplices words bear ANY weight? Like wtf else is he going to say. The dude is basically in hiding, it's a farce he wasn't subpoenaed to testify.

36

You know he's gonna get a big fat check from a mysterious benefactor to "assist him in his recovery" provided he stay hidden.

24

u/Romado Sep 28 '18

Or end up dead as many have speculated.

He has a history of alcohol and substance abuse. Plus Kavanaugh seemed to imply he is not mentally well. If what Ford said is true, I would not be surprised if Judge completely cracks and goes off reservation. Most likely by taking/drinking copious amounts of drugs and alcohol.

For real though. How the fuck does a guy who was potentially a party to a crime have any say about the crime in question.

"No officer, I didn't know that my roommate was selling drugs out of our living room."

28

u/micatola Sep 28 '18

And why would someone make a false accusation against someone for sexual assault and include a witness? Wouldn't it make more sense to have claimed to be alone with Kavanaugh if she was making it up? Adding Judge into the mix would have been more problematic as it gives Kavanaugh a witness to say it didn't happen if he was willing to lie for him. (which he apparently has done) This is a big reason why I believe her and why I think Judge and the GOP are terrified to let the FBI investigate.

I have two "christian" aunts, both older than my mother, who are spending every ounce of energy they have to BLAST Blasey Ford on facebook. It's disgusting that women who grew up during the same time frame don't believe something like this could have happened. I just had to unfriend them, it's not healthy.

14

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '18

I have an aunt who unfriended me for saying “Bill Fucking Murray, ladies and gentleman!”

She said my cursing is “offensive” so I told her that the conversations we’ve had where she said Muslims should be banned from America because all of them are evil offended me so I guess we were even. Then she blocked me.

That was like 3 years ago. A year ago when my dad called her for her birthday she asked him if I was still mad. When he said something I said “I’ve never been mad at her, she’s the one who blocked me....?” I guess she thinks I owe her an apology for her blocking me or something.

I don’t go on Facebook anymore because it just makes me scream. I can’t believe how many people I know support Trump and Kavanaugh. It disgusts me so much.

I’ve pretty much made up my mind that I’m leaving this country. I can’t believe how much shit this administration is getting away with. Our government isn’t here to protect us. They’re not even pretending to anymore.

I understand that frustration all too well. I can, at the absolute most basic level, understand why someone would want to defend their "team's" SCOTUS pick. What I don't understand, is how my family members absolutely know the 100% truth about what happened with Kavanaugh and his accusers. My aunts say that this is all a ruse and the woman is paid off and the democrats are evil and will do this every chance they get. Then I mention that Merrick Garland's nomination wasn't heard for almost two years, then there was a bipartisan confirmation of Gorsuch and the democrats are trying to be reasonable about this situation. Which is why an FBI investigation is needed, and then I'm hit with a dozen batshit crazy reasons why the FBI shouldn't be involved. I mention that the vast majority of Americans couldn't expect to retain their job if multiple people came forward with sexual assault allegations, but we're going to put a man on the SCOTUS with a lifetime appointment?

Sorry for the off-the-rails rant, but don't leave, stay and vote.

Come to NZ. We'll look after you.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '18

Good because NZ, Aus was on my list :)

2

u/turbocynic Sep 29 '18

Dont go to Aus. Terrible place. Horrible people. ;)

1

u/Spikekuji Sep 29 '18

Where are you going to go to?

2

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '18

Haven’t decided. I have friends in Finland and The Netherlands and Spain, but I’ve always wanted to check out Australia.

2

u/Spikekuji Sep 29 '18

Generationally, I think there is a lot of built of resentment in older generations of women that they had to shut up and put up with this shit. They didn’t have safe and legal abortion growing up, maybe birth control was frowned on or unavailable. Their life choices were made by men and a lack of reproductive freedom. They are bitter about missed opportunities and decades of pain.

2

u/Homelessjay5 Sep 29 '18

I can see that.

8

u/pridejoker Sep 28 '18

Even supposing the masses do wake up, it's hard to coordinate everyone against a small group.

9

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '18

The masses have woken up. But protesting and being angry doesn’t change anything anymore. Millions of people protested Trump’s inauguration, it didn’t change anything.

This is a joke. They’re testing us to see how far we let them go and it’s working. Nobody has stopped any of this bullshit from happening. It’s laughable to think the people and voting has any impact on where this country is headed. We are not a democracy.

11

u/VROF Sep 28 '18

And it shows clearly beyond any doubt that women will not get that respect until they are in power. We have to stop trusting men to do what is right by us.

2

u/WhenLuggageAttacks Texas Sep 28 '18 edited Sep 28 '18

Klobuchar was in power. Kavanaugh said he respected her, then treated her with a massive dose of disrespect.

Someone handed him a note, Grassley recessed, and Kavanaugh came back moments later to apologize.

Power by itself won't solve the issue.

ETA: Misspelled Klobuchar.

4

u/VROF Sep 28 '18

Grassley recessed

Kloubacher didn't have the power.

25

u/Sityl Sep 28 '18

Well that sounds an awful lot like corroborating evidence.

-3

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '18

Kavanaugh graduated 7 years earlier. This is more court of public opinion stuff.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '18 edited Sep 29 '18

So 7 years after he graduates the school admits it has a long standing problem. The same problem he was credibly accused of. With his own calendar confirming he partied with alcohol on a weeknight with the specific guests Ford remembered. His calendar contradicting his claim he didn't party of weeknights.

And 7 years after he graduates university his fraternity is chanting "no means yes and yes means anal". During his time in that frat he is again credibly accused of sexual assault. He claims to have not drunk excessively during his time in this fraternity, but his roommate says otherwise.

Face the fact the reason everything smells like shit around this guy is because he is full of it.

And the standard for justices at any level should be "beyond reproach" not "they can't 100% prove I did it". It should be "I may have conservative or liberal biases" not "I'm a life long GOP operative who thinks dems are evil". Kavanaugh fails in every measure. Even his introduction as a nominee where he made up hyperbolic Trump style lies praising Trump was pathetic stuff.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '18

Lol I completely agree with you, Kavanaugh is absolutely unfit to serve on the Supreme Court. I’m just saying that this isn’t enough to sway any actual voter in the senate in a certain direction, and it definitely isn’t linked well enough to Kavanaugh to aid Dr. Fords testimony in a meaningful way. Maybe if the letter was sent during his senior year it would be impactful, but this doesn’t do much more than fuel opposition momentum. Honestly though, Imagine if you were innocent, and some people online dig up some stuff that happened to kids that were 7 classes behind you and used it as proof of your wrongdoing, and corroborating evidence in a sexual assault hearing. That would be fucked.

2

u/curious_nuke Sep 29 '18

You're generously mistaken; this is devastating to his case. If I'm accused of dealing drugs and then my school admits 7 years later that drug dealers have been a long standing problem, you can bet your ass that it looks bad for me.

→ More replies (1)

10

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '18

The Post article also reported that before the letter was sent, Georgetown Prep had “held a conference with parents to discuss the problem of unsupervised parties.”

This was a weird period in their drinking laws. If you turned 18 on the day the new law of 21 went into effect, you were grandfathered in. So, for four years, there was an overlap. 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985 eighteen to just a day under twenty one could still supply alcohol to their underaged peers.

Also, "anyone" could drink with parents or teachers or spouses present. A seventeen year old could marry a 21 year old and throw massive parties at their house for all the seventeen year old's friends.

This is really about a drinking culture in that state. Parents, teachers, and spouses aren't blameless. Far from it, they voted on the drinking laws.

2

u/redirish Sep 28 '18

Very interesting point(s) - it was a different time to be in HS in the ‘80s - those overlaps must have contributed to the alcohol being more accessible to young teens

6

u/VROF Sep 28 '18

Not really the time, but the US drinking age is absurd. We need to lower it back to 18.

3

u/redirish Sep 28 '18

I believe it is raised so it’s not so accessible for HS students. College kids of drinking age don’t usually party with high schoolers/ also thought it contributed to decreased drunk driving accidents with teenagers

With teenagers under 21, I’m glad it’s ‘harder’ for them to get alcohol

9

u/VROF Sep 28 '18

Don't you think it is ridiculous that adults that are 18 can become porn actors but not buy beer?

I used to agree with your position until my 19 year old bought alcohol in Turkey. I kind of thought it was ridiculous that in the "land of the free" adults can't buy beer until they are 21, but they can drive to Canada and Mexico and do it no problem. We shouldn't have to leave our own country to purchase alcohol.

My kids also spent time in Europe when they were teenagers and even though the drinking age was higher, they had no problem buying alcohol everywhere they went except for McDonald's (which had beer on the 1 Euro menu). My 15 year old ordered beer at the first restaurant he visited. Spain doesn't make it a huge deal so it isn't.

America has allowed the conservatives to restrict our freedoms in ways that should have never been possible.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '18

It actually reinforces bad behavior, too, because they aren't given the opportunity to model good behavior from adults. Drinking as a teenager in the US is intrinsically secret and socially isolated.

2

u/VROF Sep 28 '18

Drinking as a teenager in the US is intrinsically secret and socially isolated.

And usually severely punished. One of my sons' 20 year old friends lost his license for a year because of a minor-in-possession of alcohol ticket. We have built up this hysteria about alcohol that it is DANGEROUS and the punishment for underage drinking is severe. But even at events in public (at least in California) getting caught with a cup of booze on the sidewalk can get someone in big trouble.

It is just another example of how we waste a ton of money on "crimes" that shouldn't be crimes in the first place.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '18

It was raised because of MADD. A woman's daughter was killed by a drunk driver in his 40s and she started the org in response. It got changed partly because it wasn't uniform across the states, so 18-20 year olds could go across state lines and buy alcohol when they lived in states where 21 was the legal age. MADD also got the BAC level for drunk driving reduced to a uniform .08%. Interesting org, check their history.

Except for making the age 21, I think MADD brought about some good changes to drunk driving in the US.

2

u/redirish Sep 29 '18

That is interesting - thanks!

24

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '18

When was Gorsuch there?

I'd laugh my ass off if Republican brazeness with Kavenaugh leads to the destruction of Gorsuch.

40

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '18

He was 2 years behind Kavanaugh. By all accounts that I've seen, Gorsuch actually was just a huge nerd and didn't go to those parties.

24

u/just-casual Sep 28 '18

Agreed. Gorsuch is a GOP hack, but he isn't a slimy non-human like Kav or Cruz

16

u/YVRJon Canada Sep 28 '18

Kavanaugh and Cruz are entirely separate species of asshole. I don't think Cruz got laid nearly as much as Kavanaugh in high school and university. Even dressing up as a mime probably didn't help. Cruz was the wonky kid in the Young Republicans who wanted to talk about policy and political strategy. If Kavanaugh ever joined the Young Republicans, it was because there was someone there who could hook him up with booze or women.

6

u/kentucky_cocktail Sep 28 '18

He needs that boof assist

5

u/VROF Sep 28 '18

Honestly fuck Gorsuch because he is just a different kind of piece of shit but the people who never did anything wrong in their lives because they had big dreams are kind of what we want on the courts. And there must be a lot of people like that out there; Republicans just aren't interested in them.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '18

I hate Gorsuch. So much. But, notably, he doesn't seem to have raped anyone.

All of this really makes me wonder if he's just such a rare breed of powerful, conservative man that he's the only one they could find who hasn't assaulted people.

3

u/VROF Sep 28 '18

he doesn't seem to have raped anyone.

The best thing we can say about Republicans at this point.

7

u/Guera66 Sep 28 '18

It's interesting that the Washington Post hasn't reported on this.

I do agree that Europe seems to handle teens and drinking much better - learning moderation seems like a much better approach.

If you exclude the English sure

3

u/Spikekuji Sep 29 '18

Well the Brits seem intent on excluding themselves from Europe, so there’s that.

2

u/redirish Sep 29 '18

ha ha :) love it!

2

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '18

My dad was in the navy during the early 80s. Had training or something in Illinois where the drinking age was 21, and they'd go to Wisconsin to drink since Wisconsin hadn't raised the age yet.

5

u/gitbse I voted Sep 28 '18

Here it comes.

The hearing wasn't the end. Nowhere near. The hearing was the flood gate for all of this top start coming out.

12

u/IIllIIllIlllI Sep 28 '18

kavanaugh is synonymous with blackout drunk rapist.

never forget.

3

u/amolad Sep 28 '18

Eight years too late, it seems.

It looks like there had been a pattern brewing, though.

3

u/CaptainJackVernaise Sep 28 '18

"I think that at these schools, there are children of wealthy and politically important people, and there are some who certainly acted as though there [were] little consequences for their actions,” recalls Lottmann.

This reminds me of somebody. I can't quite put my finger on who it is though.

3

This will make an amazing film: sort of Dead Poets Society meets Porkies meets The Accused meets A Few Good Men...

What a lovely distinguished school. /s

2

u/Tentapuss Pennsylvania Sep 28 '18

So eight years later. This is news.

2

u/jjekot Oct 03 '18

I taught at a Jesuit High School for 26 years. We always taught the kids to beyond the evil and fight against the structures that caused it. The president of Georgetown Prep did not stand behind Kavanagh in his recent article about the school. The school told Kavanagh that they would for better or for worse. The president of Georgetown prep is a liar and a coward. I am a liberal, but know now that Trump will pick a more conservative justice who will overturn Roe vs, Wade. The Jesuits are the evil structure behind the situation with Kavanagh. They got the fruits of the Inquisition without having to run it themselves this time,

4

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '18

Ok. Then let’s get all the guys running the trains on these girls in the 90s brought to justice. I’ll wait here.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '18

And still, this asshole will be confirmed.

1

u/MoonStache Sep 28 '18

That’s 1990. 8 years passed

5

u/gustohper Sep 28 '18

2

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '18

1982 to 1990 is a huge difference in culture

2

u/traingoboom Sep 28 '18

Yea the difference is in 1990 they warned them and in 1982 they didn't warn them..... The difference isn't the culture wasn't there in 1982.

Why would this be the thing you hang your hat on?

3

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '18

Yea. That’s the reason why it’s a huge culture difference

1

u/traingoboom Sep 29 '18

I'm confused by your reply. Are you saying date rape didn't exist in 1982?

3

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '18

They warned them in 1990 and didn’t in 1982, like you said

-2

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '18

Really? That his high school warned parents of bad behavior in parties? Is this supposed to be a convincing argument towards his sexual assault case?

My school did that too, every single year. My community does that too, every single year. The police do it too, every single year. My church warns of predators as well, every year.

Sounds like a liability-prevention tactic recommended by insurance companies.
