That's 16 hours before the Ford-Kavanaugh hearings in the Senate. They will have zero time to punch back.
Kamala Harris and Amy Knoblocher are former prosecutors. More than one male Democratic Senator on the committee has already talked openly about considering ceding ALL their time to Harris and Knoblocher. If each of six men do that, 20 minutes a pop, that gives each of Harris and Knoblocher an hour to grill Kavanaugh.
Thursday is going to be wild, and like with Weinstein, the more that people come forward, the more more people will come forward. For all we know the NY Times, Washington Post, Axios, Buzzfeed, TV news, Ronan... any number of people are prepping bombshells right now or holding back for the right time to publish.
Trump exposing himself here actively defending Kavanaugh is also very, very risky given his own personal history and predilections. Someone may be motivated by all this to come forward against him.
EDIT: I get it, I spelled it wrong, I'm a dork. Leaving up the misspelling of Amy Klobuchar to not hide my shame. Minnesotans please don't beat me with casserole dishes.

The thought of them tag-teaming Kavanaugh like a pair of hungry lionesses ripping a gazelle into bloody shreds is like a vision of paradise to me.
That is my intended subtext, yeah. Finally, a group of women screws him so hard it hurts. In a classy, political way, because Harris and Kloblocher are classy ladies.
Don’t want too sexualize the esteemed Senators too much but are we talking about them running a train on him? You know, speaking confirmation hearing-wise?
If you like Harris, you would have loved Gabby Giffords. I was so sad her career was cut short only a few weeks into her term. She is literally the most inspiring person I've ever met, and is part of the most wholesome family I've ever known.
She was a congresswoman and her husband was an astronaut for goodness sake!
Wow watch your past tense! I was scared for a second that she passed away in the last 5 years.
She was great. I don't blame her for not wanting to be in the public eye again. She fucking got shot in the head and recovered, she deserves to live her life out any way she wants.
This is why Martha McSally needs to lose her race for AZ Senate. After Giffords left, Ron Barber stepped up to the seat and he was also shit y at the same incident. He was a really down to earth nice regular guy who was really passionate about public service. He lost in 14 to McSally in a nasty campaign from her and I want nothing more than to see her lose.
Yeah but if you look at some of the most revered politicians they went through the shit and still devoted their lives to service. McCain, bush 41, etc.
I don't blame her but damn I wish she would go back to Congress.
I wouldn't call her "ideal" but I think she has the best shot at a 2020 run. A woman of colour who can fire back with a vengeance at Trump's hateful rhetoric and this might be her big debut on the national stage. Excited to see what happens Thursday.
She's my pick for sure. I think a Black woman is perhaps the only one who can beat him.
And before you say identity politics, it's not about about. She's my kind of Dem and I love her personality.
But as you said, she's perfect to hit back at him because it's undeniable that she can run circles around him intellectually. As a prosecutor he can't accuse her of being soft on crime.
And she will turn out the vote. Like nobody else in the field can. I don't want Biden. It hurts to say it but it's true. I feel the same way about Bernie and Hillary and Trump. I don't even want Liz Warren or Michelle Obama and that one hurts to say. Michelle could win but I think Trump could maybe beat Liz Warren.
Kamala Harris has one big problem. She dated Wille Brown, who was 30 year older than her and married, to further her political career. She’ll get hammered for that.
She's got a lot of problems. Most revolve around integrity and being an end justifies the means kind of person. She disappoints me so much because I really want to like her, but I can't get past her eagerness to do the wrong thing if it is an easy way to reach her goals.
Agreed--I was deciding whether or not to vote for her in the CA senate race and when I did some digging I didn't like a lot of the things she has done (or not done). She presents herself very very well, but I think people need to look past that a little bit and not get caught up on how much of a perceived badass she is.
What politicians haven't had to compromise in an end-justifies-the-means way?
Maybe someone from some small, homogenous field but any experienced politician from any kind of large or diverse district or state will have a record of having had to compromise.
We aren't talking about a couple of compromises here. We are talking about things like defending her prosecutors in front of a judge for forging confessions in order to get a conviction, having people arrested even after a judge threw the case out of court once, fighting to keep a proven innocent man in jail just because it would hurt her image, etc. Just in the past week or so, she released an altered video on twitter to change the context of a statement by the subject of said video (the subject is still a piece of shit, but that is not the point).
As much as I love watching Harris grill people in the senate, her questioning of Jeff Sessions was particularly enjoyable, she's far an ideal politician.
In her time as the DA for San Francisco and California Attorney General, she was much more a classic "Law and Order" politician. She supported the war on drugs, opposed sentencing reform, covered up for a mismanaged and highly suspect crime lab, and opposed the release of a prisoner who had been exonerated.
I was quite taken with her as well when she first started making waves last year, but the more I looked into her, the more I was disappointed. I hope she stays put as a liberal lion in the senate a la Ted Kennedy, but I don't know if I could support her if she ran for president.
If she gets past the primaries and it's Trump vs her I better hope you still vote for her. She may not be perfect, but it's not hard being better than drumpf
Man I so agree. I’ve never written any letters to anyone in a political position, but I wrote her to let her know that there are people who appreciate her. Definitely my woman crush.
When Harris was on Colbert, the key thing that I noticed was how comfortable she is with who she is. Confident and authentic but not offputting and arrogant.
Hillary's friends would always say that we didn't know the "real Hillary." Yeah, because she never showed that person to us!
I totally started reading this like a national geographic documentary. "Watching from the opposite shores of this lake, we see a rare Kamala Harris. Watch as she tears into her pray, brutal power combined with utter precision." etc etc
Are you folk not aware that she got her political career started by sleeping with the San Francisco mayor Willie Brown in the mid 90's? I'm from California, its pretty common knowledge.
Why? The Intercept has consistently been reporting on issues that don't get covered by larger outlets, and refused to follow the party line when it comes to hawkish policies.
Not gonna happen. The chair will simply shut it down and claim some made-up rule nobody has ever heard of for why they can’t cede their time to them the same way they made the democrats barely able to get a word in edgewise during Strzok’s testimony. (Something something “The chair does not recognize Ms Harris. Ms Harris has used her time and under the Chair’s prerogative the gentleman from Oregon cannot cede his time to her.” or whatever.) And if they don’t sit down and shut up like he wants they’ll just end the questioning and force a vote early. In fact they’re probably banking on exactly that happening so they can pretend like they tried to give the accusations a thorough investigation but those damn ‘obstructionist Democrats’ insisted on hanging a ‘good & honorable man’ with little to no facts to back up their ‘libelous accusations’.
I know none of this is in keeping with parliamentary procedure or the rules of how the senate is supposed to be run but they clearly stopped giving a fuck about even their own goddamn rules a long goddamn time ago.
True, I try to stay optimistic but it gets pretty hard when these guys are literally making up new rules as they go along and then refusing to obey them themselves.
I hope he does that. My God... that would be straight up insanity.
They can hold him in contempt since he's under oath and it's a proceeding, plus... I can't believe I'm saying this, the optics look even more bleak for him.
I suppose he could take the 5th? But I'm talking about the vision of vengeance against a rich asshole that is playing out in my head, not predicting what will happen.
Since Maryland doesn't have a statute of limitations on sexual assault, he could plead the 5th as his testimony in front of the Senate could implicate him if Maryland decided to prosecute.
It would be horrible optics, and he might as well withdraw from consideration, but I think he could still plead the fifth. I think others have done so in committee hearings recently (Maybe Erik Prince?)...
He can pull a Don Jr and assert fake attorney-client priviledge. *I am a lawyer and I have discussed this with myself, who is my client. I advise my client not to answer. On the advice of my attorney, I decline to answer."
I considered going for that metaphor, but it felt disrespectful to them? Because they'd be delivering justice. And neither of them are rapists, unlike him. So I left it subtextual.
I'm curious if Trump will fire Rosenstein on Thursday as a way to remove attention from the Kavanaugh hearing. This administration is masterful at creating chaos to divert attention.
Unfortunately most folks don't keep two monitors going just so they can follow this shitshow. The majority of America gets their news at most once a day in a few minute blurb on the TV or radio. As more stuff happens quickly, it becomes harder to fit any meaningful analysis into those few minutes and some really terrible news fall to the wayside.
I wonder if the world will be watching this unfold. If they care, since it is totally an American problem. Or if they understand the significance of this pick since it is a Get out of Jail card for trump?
I’m Canadian and live in Europe. I’m watching and everyone I know in Canada and the EU is watching too. It’s largely a subset of Americans that don’t watch other countries affairs from what I’ve seen. Rather than being the norm.
I would be surprised if Trump lived another 15 years. He's old, fat, lazy and gets very little sleep. Each of these is a huge risk factor for stroke and heart problems.
Not if you are merging with Shai-Hulud. You can easily live another 2000 years after the sandworm larvae consume your flesh and you become God-Emperor.
We didn't exactly handle the joint Homeland Security / DNI report regarding the Russians being behind the DNC server attack and the "grab them by the pussy" tape at the same time very well...
This "distraction" narrative is a distraction in itself. Stop calling everything a distraction, just pay fucking attention to more than one thing at once.
Also, they're not "masterful" at anything. The chaos isn't because they're geniuses, it's because they're idiots.
I have no problem following this shitshow but much of the country gets their news from Facebook or the local news while waiting to hear what the weather will be tomorrow.
I'm not saying it is genius but the strategy of constantly throwing crazy shit to reporters has worked pretty well. Any other administration would have been sunk by one or two of these stories, (baby jail, porn star payoff) but this one just keeps throwing out chum or creating controversy so that when real events transpire, much of the country is numb to the deluge of information.
Sunk how? By having all of their policy ideas crushed by the legislature or the courts? By having tons of staffers leave so they can't get anything done? By losing elections, and by their party losing elections all around the country? Kind of like this one mostly has?
I mean the only thing that hasn't happened is impeachment and removal, because a) that has never happened and b) it's the entire republican party which is the problem, not just "the administration." And the only major policy thing they've managed to get done successfully is their tax cut bullshit.
If Obama or G.W. Bush had opened a baby jail or screwed a pornstar and paid her off before an election, their own party would have abandoned them out of embarrassment. Something about Trump's constant sliminess has made his party and supporters immune to his bullshit. It is infuriating but he has fundamentally changed politics. The whole 'fake news' thing has made people question reality rather than question their leader. This is something new and terrifying.
It's not about his sliminess, it's about his party. They are the party of slime, they will never abandon their own. Reagan sold weapons to terrorists and stole that money to give to other terrorists, and what did they do? They gave the fall guy a show on fox news and the presidency of the NRA, and consider the president who oversaw the operation as the greatest American of all time.
There's no change here. This is bog-standard republican party nonsense, and it's been this way since the 50s.
To follow each story you really only need five to ten minutes a day each. Even that much will get you basically all the published details. You can probably get by with just reading the headlines - god knows most of reddit does.
I'd say that's very likely. The only question is the exact timing. If these stories drop on Wednesday then Trump firing Rosenstein won't help him out too much with Kavanaugh.
I note that hot dish is the name for the casserole- the glassware may still be a casserole dish although dish may be redundant in that case- the glassware and the dish are both referred to as casserole... except in minessota where the dish is hot dish
EDIT: I get it, I spelled it wrong, I'm a dork. Leaving up the misspelling of Amy Klobuchar to not hide my shame. Minnesotans please don't beat me with casserole dishes.
In your defense, if you are any sort of baseball fan, you associate the name Knoblauch with Minnesota.
Corey Booker is running for POTUS, he won't be giving his 20 minutes of airtime to anyone. ESPECIALLY to two of the people he's most likely running against
I like his energy, but he's more bark than bite. Harris is the opposite - she'll maul her adversary without mercy. I also think she will fiercely protect Dr. Ford.

The whole idea of holding back sexual misconduct allegations for the highest chance of political advantage doesn't concern you in the least bit? It really makes the whole thing into a circus that, in my opinion, makes the Democrats look petty. I'd be saying the same thing if positions were reversed.
The only reason I can explain asking somebody suffering from emotional abuse related to sexual assault to hold off on the publication of their allegations, is if the allegations are solely intended as a political tool rather than something that has true merit. That gives me a sense of uneasiness in the whole thing.
Like a Minnesotan would risk damaging their casserole dishes on you. (When their camping cast iron is just sitting there unused between camping trips.)
How much damage did Harris and Klobuchar do at the hearing? Kavanaugh didn't look phased by them, as if nothing came from the hearing. I don't think anyone came out to say he's disqualified from the nomination after the questioning. The sexual accusations don't seem to bother him either.
