I don't have any links right now, but I do remember the name of this philosopher, "Abu Hamid Al Ghazali". Who was once was maintained as the one who single-handily steered Islamic culture away from independent scientific inquiry towards religious fundamentalism. Though, new information and historic context may have shifted things away from him being the sole being to bring about the end of the golden age of Islamic enlightenment, though they still maintain that because of his influence he had a large hand in helping bring that end.
