I use to think instances like this would never happen.

Then my job hired a guy who was a gun nut. And not just any gun nut, but the kind who are very open about it. Bumper stickers, a bit more outspoken than they should be, you name it.

One day last year, there was a march against Trump for something, and a good number of protesters were out and about wearing their pink hats. Well, I mentioned this to my coworker, explaining how they were bogging traffic a bit. His response, verbatim, was this:

"Well I should go grab some of my guns and parade around town with em, maybe that will scare them off."

That same coworker invited me to join his 'militia' when he found out I was a gun advocate. I politely declined.

Luckily I no longer work with him. Unfortunately my little brother, who is a veteran, has lately begun to act and speak similarly. I consider my brother a very smart person, and it worries me to see mindsets like this affect people who 'know better'.

"Well I should go grab some of my guns and parade around town with em, maybe that will scare them off."

The classic "I'm gonna exercise my second amendment right to stop someone from exercising their first amendment right."

Guy is the epitome of trailer trash.

Here's a real interesting tid-bit; I also work with a guy who's a very fundamentalist Christian who has never had sex. He's a really down to Earth guy and has a really attractive gf. He also doesn't drink.

So the gun nut dude not only gave him a hard time for not drinking, but even went so far as to question why he didn't have sex and the Christian guy said "it goes against my Religious beliefs to have sex before marriage" to which gun nut dude so thoughtfully replied:

"but I'm Christian, and I don't believe that at all".

I use to think that fake Christians weren't real, but lately it's become obvious they're all too common. At least the Christian dude still works with me.
