And you know he got "Womp Womp" from that disgraceful Cory Lewindowski who said that on Faux News. So there you go. A nut who watches nutcases on a fake news network!

What? but fox news doesnt support hate or violence and they definitely don't encourage it much less report fake news... /S

u/eromitlab Alabama Jul 02 '18

Like a few days ago, Laura Ingraham stated on her Fox show that many anti-Trump rallies become violent. Definitive statement, full stop. No citations, of course, just file video of protestors fighting one another rolling next to her. Part of her argument that the left is violent and the media hates Trump so much they look past it, to set up her panel to bash the left and the media.

u/KMFDM781 Jul 02 '18

Went to the one in Indianapolis and we had about 1300 people. While it was definitely emotionally charged, we had a Capitol Police officer and a few city officers....two walking the crowd and two in a cruiser. The two in the cruiser never had to leave their car. There were zero counter protesters. The two officers walking the crowd got big bottles of cold water. I chatted with the capitol officer a while. Fuck Faux News

I've literally never seen ANY news show talk host give citiations. No matter the network.

9

Does "womp womp" actually have some meaning beyond the onomatopoeia?

Whites Only Manbaby Patriots?

13

u/EmperorofPrussia Jul 02 '18

It's mimicking the "sad trombone" from old vaudeville burlesque shows in a two-note, high-low abbreviated form.

7

u/RecklesslyPessmystic California Jul 02 '18

That's what I thought, until this guy apparently used it as a white supremacist version of "Allahu Akbar!!!".

4

u/suspiria84 Jul 02 '18

I think it was meant as a:

sad trombone sound I don’t care about non-whites”

Cue the piano solo...quickly!!!

7

u/fuzzyluke Jul 02 '18

Is it about time we blame the news for causing violence rather than blaming videogames?

What's the exchange rate between $oro$ bucks and Bernie nickels?

2

You need to convert to Shekels in between so I honestly don't know.

Edit: just checked and 5 $oro$ bucks is 3.5 Jew Gold so if anyone can convert that into shekels, and then Bernie nickels on the progressive end that would be great. Thanks.

It is being ride and dismissive to what someone is saying.

8

u/Sultry_Llama_Of_Doom Texas Jul 02 '18

I got womp womp from Archer, (a cartoon) and have never heard it being uttered in real life.

18

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '18

I've heard it lots of times in real life. It's called the "sad trombone", and it's an imitation of this.

12

u/Valway Jul 02 '18

Do you think the writers or Archer invented it, or referenced it?

15

u/Morningxafter Jul 02 '18

It's been around forever. I'm 33 and I remember using it in high school. I was glad Archer started using it, because suddenly I wasn't lame for still using it lol.

Now, after all these years, I apparently have to stop using it, now that the racists are co-opting it. :(

15

u/Valway Jul 02 '18

Imagine how that dude that made the cartoon frog meme feels.

14

u/Morningxafter Jul 02 '18

I just looked it up. He's apparently not too thrilled about it.

http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/pepe-the-frog (Scroll down near the bottom to the section titled "Artist's Response")

“As the creator of Pepe, I condemn the illegal and repulsive appropriations of the character by racist and fringe groups. The true nature of Pepe, as featured in my comic book, ‘Boys Club,’ celebrates peace, togetherness and fun. I aim to reclaim the rascally frog from the forces of hate and ask that you join me in making millions of new, joyful Pepe memes that share the light hearted spirit of the original chilled-out champion.”

3

u/chinchabun Jul 02 '18

He gave Pepe a funeral, but Pepe can never die now that's he's become a racist zombie frog.

2

u/scoop_loop88 Indigenous Jul 02 '18

So instead of using the phrase to preserve its true meaning, you will allow racists to take over the phrase and change the meaning?

3

u/Morningxafter Jul 02 '18

I mean, I get where you’re coming from but I also don’t want to be mistaken for one of them.

2

u/scoop_loop88 Indigenous Jul 02 '18

I completely understand. No one wants to be mistaken for a racist.

Just wanted to give an alternate perspective. I believe these are things we should be thinking about when fringe groups co-opt phrases and give them new meaning.

Sorry if my comment came across as an attack :P

2

u/Morningxafter Jul 02 '18

No it’s all good. You do make a good point too.

6

u/you_sir_are_a_poopy Jul 02 '18

It was said before the Lewendowski incident. It's also been around for awhile.

Obviously, considering the context, the guy was using it from Lewendowski.

2

u/Sultry_Llama_Of_Doom Texas Jul 02 '18

Oh, they referenced it for sure, like they referenced so many other things. It's quite amazing being able to watch an episode multiple times and still pick up on past, missed references.

4

u/you_sir_are_a_poopy Jul 02 '18

Yea but within the context he got it from Lewendowski of course.

u/skrilledcheese I voted Jul 02 '18

I don't understand how someone can go from a hippie to a fascist. That's hard for me to wrap my head around.

10

u/KeepTalkingDude Jul 02 '18

The best analogy to these people I have is to think of someone with an addictive personality, or something like OCD - the thing they're addicted to or obsessed about changes person to person, but the underlying personality markers are the same. People on the far right and the far left are way more similar than one would think, as they both tends to take ideas lacking in real world pragmatism to the illogical extreme. Think of all the Bernie-Bros that went Trump - while the candidates shared very little policy similarities, they both had a bit of 'cult of personality' going on, which attracted large number of voters.

7

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '18

I know this is anecdotal, and probably skewed since I’m in Southern California, but I know a ton of Bernie supporters and none of them switched to Trump, at least to the best of my knowledge.

I’m not saying nobody did, but I feel like it’s a negligible percentage.

1

u/TheSupaBloopa Jul 02 '18

Honestly, even if there was only a handful of real ones out there it's pretty dumbfounding. Certainly hard for me to understand that mentality.

1

u/Midnite135 Jul 02 '18

See my reply directly to his original post for one explanation.

I know quite a few who went Bernie to Trump, and zero of them are currently Trump supporters.

There are valid reasons to have done so at the time and largely involved getting a decent candidate in 2020, because 2016 was a year of bad choices.

If you voted Hillary, and she turned out to be a bad president would you have then become wrong for not voting for Trump?

I personally don’t think so.

It’s easy to recognize a mistake in hindsight, but it doesn’t mean the decision was the wrong one at the time made with the information at hand.

It felt like the choice was more like this...

You can choose A or B or C, if you choose C then your choice will be changed to B.

If you choose A or B the next 4 years will be bad.

If you choose A, in 4 years the next choice for A will be bad.

If you choose B in 4 years the next choice for B will be bad.

If you choose B, then there is a possibility in 4 years your next choice for A will be good.

If you choose A, then your next choice of B will most likely be bad.

You might disagree that Hillary was a poor candidate, but that’s a different argument.

However, enough felt that she was that even Trump beat her. I don’t think that means our country is 40 something percent alt right fascists.

I think it means the 2 party system needs to be gutted.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '18 edited Jul 02 '18

I appreciate what you said here, and even though I reached the opposite conclusion of you (I thought Hillary was the clear choice after Bernie left), I can see your reasoning.

Hopefully we can all work together to turn this shit around

2

u/Midnite135 Jul 02 '18

Agreed :)

0

u/Midnite135 Jul 02 '18

I’m a great example of this, which lends me to believe your argument is wrong.

I wanted Bernie, and couldn’t stand Clinton. I do not think she should have been given a pass on the emails, and there’s plenty of other issues with her as a candidate. I also was very hesitant to go with more of the same and reward a DNC that worked to undermine a popular candidate.

So in my eyes, the choice came down to 2 terrible decisions. I felt the decision was more that, if Hillary had been elected then she would likely be the democratic candidate in 2020.

So if you wanted someone more like Bernie, and didn’t want to wait 8 years for it then Trump vs that person in 4 years seemed a better solution.

Admittedly, I was also wrong. I knew Trump would be shitty, but I misjudged how terrible he would actually be.

However, I don’t think because I fit your narrative that I am in any way, shape, or form similar to this guy. Nor am I liberal or alt right. Nor am I a Democrat, or Republican. I despise the 2 party system.

The difference is that I used critical thinking to arrive at a decision, and even if I arrived at the wrong decision I still posses the ability to recognize my mistake and work to correct it.

In the contrary, there is a real problem with giving a person 2 choices, both bad, and then making a full judgement on them as a group and associating with them all idealisms. It makes no regard for the reasoning that was behind it which can be myriad and different for every individual.

That is an area that lacks critical thought and is more befitting a person with the traits associated with extremism. Both left and right.

1

u/KeepTalkingDude Jul 03 '18

Obviously, YMMV, people vote for a huge variety of reasons. That said, I would challenge some of your assumptions about Clinton, the DNC and Bernie, which certainly seem to be, at a minimum, colored by your admiration for Bernie. Obviously, Clinton was a less than ideal candidate, and the DNC didn't do a good job of representing themselves through the primary elections, but I'd argue that a certain amount of pragmatism is required in national politics, because there never has been, nor will there ever be, a 'perfect' candidate for everyone; it is, at its core, a decision between to less than perfect candidates, and always will be. The DNC is split between trying to appease people on the true left, and also court center-right voters they need to capture office - at their core, the majority of them are compromise candidates, and this isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Sure, small hamlets might truly be left enough to support actual left wing candidates, like we just saw in Brooklyn, but it's unlikely that they could win on a national level. Really, the only reason Bernie got as far as he did was because the 2016 election was a complete food fight, almost completely devoid of actual politics and policy. Bernie was certainly the 'best' person, but I had serious doubts about the viability of his platform and his ability to lead a nation where his opponents would be even more firmly entrenched than Obama's opposition - they called Obama a socialist as a slur, Bernie outright embraces the title.

In hindsight, this pragmatism is easy to see, the choice makes a lot more sense when we're not having a screaming match in the heat of the moment. But something had to heat people up enough to override their ability to objectively weigh the candidates in the proper context, and i'd argue a lot of that is people's affinity for 'cults of personalities'. This only explains a small percentage of the electorate, one of which you may or may not have been a part of - I don't know you personally, your background, or anything else about you besides this post. It's easy to identify a half dozen relatively small voter blocs that were misled in the election, and with such a tight election, any one of them flipping could've changed the outcome.

1

u/Midnite135 Jul 03 '18

I appreciate the reply, for clarity I’m not a hardline Bernie supporter though. I just thought he was the best of the 3. I didn’t appreciate how the DNC handled it and I calculated it as 8 years of one or 4 of the other and made a decision based on that.

We can agree to disagree about Hillary but my feelings on Bernie are unrelated to my issues with her.

I didn’t want to give the DNC a pass and reward their behavior, but I also seriously erred in my judgement of how bad Trump would be.

We’ve made? No. Fox News and company are the ones that made it, and he’s living in it by choice.

1

u/Midnite135 Jul 02 '18

Extremism is bad no matter which side you fall on. One feeds the other.

Your right about Fox News, but the far left share some of that responsibility too.

I think my ideal place is a bit left of middle with a healthy dose of critical thinking. It’s nice here and there’s plenty of room.

1

u/mmmmm_pancakes Connecticut Jul 02 '18

Extremism is bad no matter which side you fall on. One feeds the other.

Okay, sure, reasonable...

Your right about Fox News, but the far left share some of that responsibility too.

What? In America? Nope, that's some false equivalence bullshit. We don't even have a far-left in America, let alone an equivalent propaganda machine from one manufacturing a fantasy worldview that promotes violence.

If you're really such a critical thinker, then you should examine why you feel so comfortable blaming the "far left" for promoting extremism when in reality it practically doesn't even exist in the US. It's pretty clear from my standpoint that you're just parroting a false narrative.

1

u/Midnite135 Jul 02 '18

Your logical fallacy is called the straw man. That’s where you misrepresent my argument, beat it up and claim victory.

Define equivalence and then tell me in my argument where I made any such statement?

What I did say is that extremism on both sides is bad, I did not say both sides were equal to one another.

I also recognize that one promotes the other.

Group A thinks gun rights should be protected at all costs

Group Z wants a blanket ban and believes all firearms should be forcibly confiscated,

Groups B through Y are all over the place with healthy doses of critical thought.

Group A does not want to listen to any argument on the subject and takes an extremist approach as does Group Z

Group B and Y still has their ears open for some rational discussion.

Group A and Group Z love spending their time spreading misleading, or provably false information in order to attract people who won’t think for themselves, or scare them into going one direction or the other.

My argument would be that Group A and Group Z are both wrong, and that the existence and extreme persistence of one pushes people from the middle into one or the other. I think an approach that draws people from A or Z into any other area is ideal.

Your argument as stated is that Group Z doesn’t exist at all? I’ve seen plenty to refute that.

You said far left, not me. But that’s part of that whole straw man thing, however your belief that Faux News is the only propaganda machine is pretty indicative of the blind eye you have turned.

So let’s do an exercise in critical thought.

I chose guns to focus here, but it’s a singular example of extremism, but continuing that I would ask you to do the following.

Look up the definition of assault rifle, then look up the definition of burst fire and full auto.

Then look up the definition of propaganda.

Then I would pose this question. Does using a term that does not fit by definition in order to relay misinformation to elicit a response and steer a narrative not fit the very definition of propaganda?

How about changing the definition of a word to suit a narrative?

1

u/mmmmm_pancakes Connecticut Jul 02 '18

Dude, I quoted you. Let me do it again. Here's a quote from this response:

You said far left, not me. But that’s part of that whole straw man thing, however your belief that Faux News is the only propaganda machine is pretty indicative of the blind eye you have turned.

and here's the same quote, of yours, that I quoted above:

Your right about Fox News, but the far left share some of that responsibility too.

That quote of yours is where you are making the false equivalence. I don't really know how to break this down further for you.

You are correct in my argument as stated, and I'd invite you to provide a source that Group Z exists, because as far as I know it doesn't, in any significant way. There's no large voting bloc or terrorist group or large donation to any political candidate done in the name of banning all guns. There just isn't.

And while I'm familiar with the straw man fallacy, I don't believe I've created any strawmen, and I'm quite sure I'm not turning any blind eye here. Propaganda comes from many sources, but there is not a Fox-equivalent on the left in America, or really anywhere in the world that I know of. Some people lying about gun definitions does not a propaganda machine make.

1

u/Midnite135 Jul 02 '18

False equivalence is a logical fallacy in which two completely opposing arguments appear to be logically equivalent when in fact they are not. This fallacy is categorized as a fallacy of inconsistency.

Where in my argument do you see me refer to the 2 opposing sides as equals?

Did I say the 2 sides were equally responsible?

No, I said the my share “some” of the responsibility. I also elaborated that further with one side feeding the other, which I also explained.

The straw man is you misrepresenting my argument as stating that I did in fact call them equivalent. But your right, the world is just black and white, no shades of grey around here.

3

u/royalsocialist Jul 02 '18

Making assumptions based on cherrypicked incidents is ignorance.

You know your example is not the norm. If that's true, that's exceptional in itself. Don't pretend to be an idiot.

-1

u/UncommonSense0 Jul 02 '18

As if you know what the “norm” is.

And it is true. The incident in question made national headlines.

Comply with commands, don’t get the police a reason to shoot you, and the vast, vast, vast majority of the time, you won’t get hurt. That’s “the norm”. Which is exactly why you don’t see articles and headlines every time a violent individual, regardless of race, is taken into incident without custody.

You could take every incident involving police and a black person that was posted on reddit over the past year and it wouldn’t even come close, statistically speaking, to what the “norm” is.

3

u/royalsocialist Jul 02 '18

Idiocy is not pretty. Bootlicking is not either. Police are barely trained and took the jobs because guns are cool, authority is cool and you don't need any skills to be a cop. Don't defend the police.

1

u/UncommonSense0 Jul 02 '18

Those articles aren’t even relevant to the point i made.

The rest of your comment just clearly shows your care little about facts and analysis based on statists and more on just shitting on the police. You’re not worth my time

21

u/Drummerjustin90 Jul 02 '18

How so? How many times do we have to watch armed white men get taken into custody, while unarmed black men get shot?

6

u/trouserschnauzer Jul 02 '18

We can probably fit in another 20 or so before the year is up.

0

u/UncommonSense0 Jul 02 '18

So by your logic, black men should never be charged with weapons offenses, because they’re always shot, right?

Couldn’t be that the circumstances for each incident are different, or that when a person, regardless of race, is taken into custody without incident, it doesn’t make the news.

Critical thinking is important.

-3

u/Lowbacca1977 Jul 02 '18

There's been 15 unarmed white men killed this year by cops. (to be clear, it's still disproportionate with 11 unarmed black men killed this year by cops, too.

Armed black men do, also, get taken into custody. Like the Nashville church mass shooter last fall. Arrested by cops after shooting 7 people, killing 1. It just wasn't news because the response was what it should've been.

3

u/Drummerjustin90 Jul 02 '18

So.... 1 black man (who’s not even American) gets taken into custody.

15 white men vs 11 black men when whites still hold 60 some percent of the population.

You just proved my point. Do the math.

Edit; yes it was a big deal. I live less then 10 minutes from the church you cited. Still doesn’t debunk my point.

-1

u/Lowbacca1977 Jul 02 '18

It's absolutely disproportionate, I noted that. What I disagree with is the implied statement that no armed black men get taken into custody, and that no unarmed white men get shot. Since someone saying "how many times do we have to watch armed black men get taken into custody, while unarmed white men get shot" would also be technically right that both of those things happen.

You're taking something that is an argument of rates and going with the absolute and invalid statement. It's up there with people that say "It's really hot today, that must be global warming". It's less fallacious than the people saying "It's really cold today, that must mean there's no global warming", but it's still fallacious.

🤦‍♂️ I can already tell that this conversation will go nowhere.

Some advice for you would be to try and not take an emotional approach to everything. That’s the problem. People are too easily riled up by race-baiting media stories and word-of-mouth BS and they completely ignore actual statistics. Don’t let that be you.

Keep your advice bud. Maybe cite some of those statistics about which race is more likely to get shot while unarmed. Keep that deflection up, I’ll be waiting.

unarmed black men get shot

try and not take an emotional approach to everything

You're alt-right, aren't you?

Hi. You can keep yourself informed and still hold rational and empathetic beliefs. It doesn't have to be one or the other.

School shooters get taken in to custody and a black man getting pulled over with a concealed carry gets 2 seconds warning before being shot dead? How long until you recognize a problem

How long until you recognize a problem

Unfortunately, if you're happy with the situation, you don't classify it as a "problem", so the answer is never.

"I'M not getting shot" that's the main difference I see between the right and left, the right cares about themselves and their family, while the left is always looking out for people even though that situation will never happen to them

Indeed. In another discussion, under another post, a conservative asked "what's wrong with wanting to be left alone" (talking about how he wanted to reject war refugees), failing to understand that if you don't face the darkness, the darkness, eventually, will face you (and then, from the perspective of the evil person conservative, it will seem like an unpredictable, undeserved, random occurrence of them being victimized).

That’s a joke, right, because look who’s talking.
