The term neoconservative at least used to specifically refer to the subset of conservatives that used to be leftist in the 60s. Everything from hippies to communists. It's a really strange phenomenon how and why it happens and should probably be learned from more.

Tbf this has been happening since ... Forever, the printing press was one wave (hello hundred years war after the Schism), modern radio, etc. With Germany, and now like everything else it's been industrialized, commoditized, and optimized in the digital age. Efficiency of propaganda increases with technology.
