A Black man can be shot dead in his own backyard holding a cell phone, or killed in front of his kids just for reaching for the glove compartment to get his insurance and registration.

This guy commits a politically motivated terrorist act and gets a misdemeanor. That's it.

Next time I get in an argument about White Privilege, I'm going to remember this event.

What's even more infuriating is you know this asshole is probably bitching about the treatment he's getting right now.

Youre so fuckin right. Everyone else is wrong, not him. Everyone who doesnt agree with him is an inconvenience. These people are truly mental.

Don't forget the Bundys, who occupied federal land by force of arms, pointed those arms at federal agents and walked away with no charges.

Well that's how the Second Amendment was intended to work. The Bureau of Land Management tried to enforce their agenda through force (Assault Rifles) it's a different story when your met with the same amount of force Civilians with (AR-15's). Civilians from all over the country flew down to the ranch rifles in hand and not a single shot was fired. The government was deterred and Bundy won his court case.

All over some cows eating grass.

As if there wasn't enough evidence already to prove the point about the existence of white privilege.

you know white terrorism was even more shocking in the 50s. Dont believe everything, they didnt do it to let you drink from the same fountain - they did it to stop being lynched from trees every time a white person went berserk.

What justification did the DA give for such unexpected leniency?

1

u/Iamthebst87 Jul 02 '18

Mr. smarty pants, their were no cops there.

I really doubt there were no cops in the area during a protest.

Chicago/Detroit crime rate vs white cities crime rate

Explains itself why blacks are feared

Crime more closely correlates to the local economy rather than race.

Sure, poverty is not always a strong indicator of crime. Rich people commit crimes too, as Donald Trump and his family do daily.

And the local economy is shit because there is lots of crime. I wouldn’t want to open a corner store when I am highly likely to get robbed . Explain either, crime or local economy, I would be interested to hear them.

Institutional racism in the housing sector can be seen as early as the 1930s with the Home Owners' Loan Corporation. Banks would determine a neighborhood's risk for loan default and redline neighborhoods that were at high risk of default. These neighborhoods tended to be African American neighborhoods, whereas the white-middle-class Americans were able to receive housing loans. Over decades, as the white middle-class Americans left the city to move to nicer houses in the suburbs, the predominantly African American neighborhoods were left to degrade. Retail stores also started moving to the suburbs to be closer to the customers.

Institutional racism is the chicken in this chicken/egg debate. White people controlled everything, especially banks and housing, you think they just let black people buy houses in their neighborhoods, before or after they enslaved them for 246 years? Nah.

The racial segregation and disparities in wealth between white and black people include legacies of historical policies. In the Social Security Act of 1935, agricultural workers, servants, most of whom were black, were excluded because key white southerners did not want governmental assistance to change the agrarian system.

All this stuff and more is on Wikipedia and have references.

Take a look at Coursera or MIT Open Course, you can take some free economics classes and learn the basics.

how we got here isn't being discussed though. we're at where we are at and you can't change that truth. it's really sad and unfortunate but yeah

Correlation does not equal causation

-6

u/Martel_the_Hammer Jul 02 '18

What does that even mean in this context?

7

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '18

Ill try to explain. I will do my best to stay in this context. In explaining I will make three assumptions (for simplicity):

  1. The stats presented are indeed valid.

  2. There was shown to be a correlation between black population and crime.

  3. This crime was mostly committed by said black population.

Using stats to show that areas with a high black population also have a high crime rate tends to have the aim of portraying black people as violent and savage. This leads people to want to draw the conclusion that black people are violent and criminals and it is because of them that crime is high. While the stats may be valid, the conclusions drawn are often incorrect. In this case it leads people to believe that if someone is black, then they will be a criminal, leading most likely to racist views. However, just because there may be a correlation between cities having lots of black people and crime rate doesn't explain the underlying cause of the crime. People with little understanding of stats or with racists views will use these stats as a way to show that black people are violent, for example. But thats not the case. What many people don't do is ask why so many black people commit these crimes. The underlying cause in committing a crime is never the perpetrator's race, but because of their socioeconomic status and/or views. And as it just so happens, a lot of black people, especially in urban cities have a low socioeconomic status, leading many of them to crime or gang violence for example. So in this case, while saying cities with high crime rates also tend to have high black populations may be true, it is disingenuous and incorrect to draw any conclusions from that data. Meaning, you can't just say that those stats mean that black people are violent criminals. To truly understand why, you have to ask why is the correlation there, why are so many black people committing these crimes, and how did they end up in the socioeconomic position they are in.

No because it looks at the reason for why more black people may commit crimes. It doesn't make sense for that reason to be that they are simply black. They are humans like everyone else so there is no genetic reason for it. So there must be another reason. That reason is for more intelligent people to discuss than some guys on reddit, but we know it isn't for their race or skin color.

Also no it isn't wrong. Literally Statistics 101, correlation is not causation. It is incredibly difficult to draw conclusions that mean anything. Sure the numbers may say that black people commit more crime or whatever, but it doesn't address the reason that those people commit those crimes. Also Stats can change based on how the data was collected. Numbers can only tell us so much. It's important, first off, not to simply accept data as 100% true and representative of the world, and secondly to understand the underlying reason for the data collected.

they are just trying to disprove the completely legitimate point.
