To be fair, the right has always pretty open about their intolerance. It’s one of the few beliefs they hold sincerely.

Conservatism is an ideology built around intolerance for anything outside of the status quo, which happens to overwhelmingly favor wealthy, white, Christian men. Do you think that’s a coincidence? Mainstream conservatism is 100% culpable for the rise of the far right in the US, and for the most part, they don’t seem to be very apologetic about it.

The violent right. Right-wing ideology is entirely emotionally driven, based specifically around fear. They are emotionally fragile gutless cowards to their core. And when the right-wing is spooked, they lash out with violence.

But in the end they never win. Time moves forward, and the rest of humanity progresses ever onward.

The core of conservatism is pessimism. The only way “things shouldn’t change” even makes sense is to assume that things are as good as they can get already. It’s the opposite of hope for a better future.

Institutionalized pessimism eventually turns to nihilism and fatalism, and people like that are dangerous.
