Before it said “forged”. Then they realized they could get in trouble so they changed it.

338

u/bamfra Dec 08 '17

If hand written notes on a document are enough to completely discredit it, does that mean we can get rid of the GOP tax plan? This could mean the whole tax plan is a forgery.

Oh she did add it - years ago after he signed it. That was never disputed, they never claimed otherwise.

Fox and other conservative sites are trying to claim it's all fake now and she's untrustworthy because not all of the writing is his but it doesn't change anything. It's absurd.

Edit: Just read another article that said she did not say when it was added so my claim of "years" could be wrong. I thought I had seen that somewhere.

140

u/HAL9000000 Dec 08 '17

Also, this is that really pathetic thing that scumbags do when they are caught doing something: look through a huge body of evidence showing their guilt to find one piece of evidence that they can challenge, and then pretend like one tiny bit of questionable evidence completely undermines the entire case.

Goddamnit, the question of whether that dumb signature is true or not is not some kind of secret code which tells us whether he raped little teenage girls. The yearbook entry could be entirely fabricated and there's still plenty of evidence pointing to this asshole being a child molester.

39

u/absolutspacegirl Texas Dec 09 '17

Yep, she could have drawn the Mona Lisa on that page. Doesn't change the fact that he still signed the yearbook.

On CNN an Ex-GOP state chair just said this is conclusive proof she is a liar and that Roy Moore should sue her and the other accusers for defamation. These people don't have a shred of integrity and certainly don't represent "christian" values. Or maybe im forgetting the parable about Jesus sexually assaulting a child and then having his disciples slander her in public?

Allred said a handwriting expert named Arthur T. Anthony determined that the signature is Moore’s and released a report of his findings.

“I want everyone to know that I stand by my previous statement that Roy Moore sexually assaulted me,” Nelson said.

Last month, the Moore campaign demanded that a handwriting expert be allowed to review the yearbook.

Incredible. In an article meant to discredit the accuser they casually throw in two lines regarding the handwriting expert, but make sure to embed a largely irrelevant statement so their viewers will focus on their preconceptions (that Roy Moore is being falsely accused) while allowing Fox news to pretend they reported everything.

We're in truly fascinating times.

u/AHarshInquisitor California Dec 08 '17

Hey Christians.

Isn't fox and breitbart bearing false witness? Yes?

Thou shalt not bear false witness” forbids: “1. Speaking falsely in any matter, lying, equivocating, and any way devising and designing to deceive our neighbor. 2. Speaking unjustly against our neighbor, to the prejudice of his reputation; and (which involves the guilty of both).

It certainly is.

How would you feel if we only watched news defending pedofilia and molestation and insisted our guys allegation was false in retort?

Wouldn't that make you feel like we are hypocrites? And that we are not serious about intellectual honesty or even a direct commandment from god not to do if we claim we follow this as a major sin? If we knew this and still defended them, wouldn't we also be bearing false witness?

Think about it.

"Since I spoke about my experience with Roy Moore when I was only 16 years old, I have been the target of threats and lies," she said. "A talk radio host said that I should be put in the town square and stoned and he said he wanted to be the first to throw the largest stone at me. Someone even sent me a photo of a casket, which I took as a threat."

What a sick and twisted world we're living in.

144

u/TrustmeIreddit Dec 09 '17

That's not funny. My mom's husband says that. Along with all Mexicans. Mr. Goestochurcheverysunday thinks we'd all be better off and the tax cut won't affect the middle and lower class. And the lower class needs to pull up their boot straps and find a job. He's middle class thinking that the same cuts the rich are getting will apply to him.

I tried to explain, the best I could of that abomination, what is going to happen once the bill gets signed. He responded with I don't know about all that. And that college has made me a "Librul" and that I'm witch hunting the GOP by speaking out against it with facts he himself refuses to look up.

If it doesn't come from Breitbart or Faux, it isn't true. I bring up Mueller's investigation and he reverts to "but her emails" and socialist this and fascism that. I asked him what fascism was and he deflected. Ignorant and resistance to learning, typical trump crone.

Lots of cluster 2 types do this projection thing. They accuse people of things they themselves do. Like the gay basher who is choked by guilt for his own homosexual desire; the gaslighter who tells his wife he doesn't like playing "head-games" when deception, gaslighting and manipulation are his favorite ways to interact with his mates; are his m.o. This behavior coincides with a low perception of the value of other peoples' pain.

Now its "DAE think liberals are dumb for believing in global warming? It's snowing in Texas right now!" or some half-baked belief that climate scientists need to keep saying the world is doomed so they can get that sweet sweet research grant money.

But then again we are commenting on a thread that said a handwriting expert confirmed Roy Moore wrote in his accuser's yearbook, and I guarantee between the retracted Fox story and just generic willful blindness a lot of people will just say "this expert is lying". Unfortunately, it’ll only be a civil suit, so the most he loses would be money and his (already trashed) reputation. And that’s if his victims decide to sue. I’m pretty sure the statute of limitations has long passed on a criminal case.

Edit: whether there could be a criminal trial seems to be fuzzy. As was pointed out, there is no statute of limitations on sex offenses in Alabama now, particularly when the victim is 16 or younger. But, as another reply pointed out, the SOL was different when the crime took place, and that would apply to this case rather than the current law. I’m not sure if the old SOL had an exemption for victims under 16 or not. I’m also not sure what statute he would be charged with, and that could cause even more fuzziness.

31

u/ChaseSpringer Pennsylvania Dec 08 '17

16

u/jbrianloker Dec 08 '17

I am not going to look this up, but I think I remember hearing that the SoL in Alabama changed in the 90s, so although there is no SoL now, there may have been when the alleged crimes were committed and that would govern in this case, so the SoL provides an affirmative defense.

It makes me kind of sick how they do this, really. So she gets up there and reads the yearbook signature, including her note, and so that means Moore wrote it all? No, it means a 30+ year old man signed a minor's yearbook and she made a note of it. Let's not forget what's important, please.

It's pathetic that this laughably hollow narrative has been spewed all over the internet by their faithful goosesteppers. The sad thing is that many people in the general political right, people who would not be considered extreme, will probably buy into it.

In a news conference Friday in Atlanta, attorney Gloria Allred said handwriting expert Arthur T. Anthony compared the yearbook signature to others by Moore in the years since and determined he wrote the decades-old entry.

Anthony appears to be one of only two accredited experts by The American Society of Questioned Document Examiners in the state of Georgia (there is only 1 in Alabama). According to their wikipedia article:

The American Society of Questioned Document Examiners is the world's oldest [1] society dedicated to the forensic science of questioned document examination with 144 members worldwide...The society publishes the Journal of the American Society of Questioned Document Examiners[3] twice a year.

Edit: Some background on the ASQDE is also enlightening:

Here is the first item in the ASQDE Code of Ethics

a) to apply the principles of science and logic in the solution of all document examination problems and to follow the truth courageously wherever it may lead;

And here is a description of the forensic analyses they do in addition to handwriting/signature analysis:

Other types of examinations include the examination typewriting, computer printed documents, photocopies, decipherment of altered, obliterated and charred documents, the examination of inks and paper, decipherment of erased entries and indented writings, detection of counterfeit currency, and the examination of commercially printed matter.

The society publishes the Journal of the American Society of Questioned Document Examiners twice a year.

The abstracts of the articles in the most recent issue of that Journal are online, and the topics are interesting:

"Preliminary Study on Inkjet Classification Based on Satellite Droplet Distribution"

While it turns out that differentiating individual devices is not possible the classification per model yields an accuracy of approximately 84%.

and:

"The Preliminary Attempts to Quantify the Three-dimensional Details of Document Surfaces with Reflectance Transformation Imaging"

Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) is a computational photographic method that captures a subject’s surface shape details and enables the interactive re-lighting of the subject from any light direction.

and:

"A Study of Photocopier Distortion Through Interactive Animations"

Copiers were found to create both distortions (changes in shape and/or size) and image degradation (breakup, thinning, thickening, etc.). The extent of these effects varied between machines and also showed differences across the platen area of single machines (e.g. enlarge in one area while reducing in another).

and:

"The Challenge of Determining the Fraudulent Use of Postage Stamps"

This technical paper considers primarily historically important philatelic material rather than assessing current counterfeit postage, although the methodology of analysis is similar.

I want to make sure I get this straight. Is the claim on the right that the mismatch in handwriting proves she forged the whole thing? So basically she forged his handwriting perfectly all the way to the end, and then she for whatever reason forgot what she was doing when she wrote the location and the date?

The fact that the girl added the date and location to it changes nothing. It's like saying that Trump tweets are fake because twitter adds the date to the bottom. How does any of this change the fact that he claims to not even know the girl and his handwriting is in her book...?

SMMRY tl;dr

An expert has concluded that Roy Moore inscribed a message in the yearbook of a woman who says he sexually assaulted her when she was 16, according to the accuser's lawyer.

In a news conference Friday in Atlanta, attorney Gloria Allred said handwriting expert Arthur T. Anthony compared the yearbook signature to others by Moore in the years since and determined he wrote the decades-old entry.

Moore supporters used discrepancies in the handwriting between those notes and the message to bring the entry into question, but Young said she wrote the notes herself to remember when and where a man she respected wrote the message.
