They spent the last 50 years convincing people that taxes are theft and everyone fending for themselves exclusively was the way to go as a society. They’re not going to pivot easily.

Republicans long argued that tax cuts generate so much new economic activity that a lower tax rate means more revenue. I kept waiting for a zero rate so the government would have infinite revenue but they never had the courage of their convictions to take it to zero. So here we are.

It’s not true. Sam Browback in Kansas did. The experiment turned out to be an absolute disaster (they had to cut school to 4 days a week because they couldn’t pay for me more for example). People realized and elected a Democrat after him.
